Angel fans in Peru

Just going to take a shot in the dark here, but are there any HH goers residing in or near Lima, Perú? I just got here a couple of weeks ago and will be in town for at least the next 6 months. I purchased mlb.tv, but I have this strange feeling that I am not going to be able to access it outside of the U.S. Anyway, I know they have espn here, and I'm hoping we snag a few more national broadcasts than usual this year, due to our offseason acquisitions, but it would be cool to meet up and catch a game from time to time if anyone is in the area.

LEGIT Nationals Trade Proposal

Ok, so the Nationals stuff has been thrown around a lot. I hate the Lannan for Bourjos straight-up trade as much as everyone. However, I do think there is on possible trade proposal that could benefit both parties. It would take a little more work of JeDi's part, but I wouldn't mind it happening.

UP AND IN Podcast on Halos Farm

UP AND IN is a weekly podcast via Baseball Prospectus featuring two dudes who write for them, Jason Parks (@professorparks) and Kevin Goldstein (@Kevin_Goldstein). It's a podcast for extreme baseball nerds like myself and has helped me get through the off-season. They also do a bunch of non-baseball, "dude" type stuff like the "What Are You Drinking" segment.

Anyways, they did their run down of the Angels farm system recently. I typed it up while listening so I didn't differentiate between Kevin and Jason. With the Halos system they seemed to mostly agree on each player anyway so it doesn't matter much.

Here's a short, concise recap of who and what they said:

Trades that make sense? Trout for Harper

As I was digesting the latest serving of bland filler on Mike Trout's prospects for playing time ("Yes he should play more / Wells sucks / But what about the money" - rinse and repeat), courtesy of our friends at Fangraphs yesterday, my eyes were drawn to a comment about half-way down, from some bloke named Colin.

Here's what he had to say:

How about a strict challenge trade, Trout for Harper? The Nationals need a CF more than they need a corner OF. The Angels appear set in CF with Bourjos, and Trout’s value is diminished in a corner spot. Harper could stand a few more months of seasoning in AAA (not to mention the Super II status benefit), which would probably delay this decision for long enough to let an injury determine the call up date (or complete ineffectiveness from Wells).

Of course this will never happen. Neither GM wants to run the risk of swapping a superstar for a lessor, or even failed, player. However, it would be fun to debate this trade for the next decade, especially if they remain essentially equal players moving forward.

Poll
If the Nationals offered the Angels a straight up trade, Trout for Harper, would you pull the trigger?

Wale – Albert Pujols Ft. Rick Ross & Fabolous

This was intended for Ambition but didn’t make the cut.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grNL01y9iE4&feature=player_detailpage

Maybach Music Group’s representatives Wale and Rick Ross link up Fabolous for a new track entitled “Albert Pujols”. Rick Ross leads things off and plays his position nicely as he spits “Let me knock it out the park, I’m talkin’ Albert Pujols” before Wale comes in second and does his thing. The DMV rhyme kicker has made some major strides in the last year and “Albert Pujols” is another fine effort from Wale.

What about John Lannan?

According to a recent MLBTR article (Look! I made a hyperlink!) the Nationals are aggressively shopping John Lannan. In a further update (here) it looks like they locked down Edwin Jackson. This definitely leaves them with a glut of starters, prospects, out of option pitchers, and so forth. According to the MLBTR piece, they're most likely looking for a position player in return.

Now, I know some of us around here harbor a deep and abiding love for one Mr. Callaspo, but I could see Lannan for Callaspo as a viable swap. The Nats have a need of a steady defender like him, who has some positional flexibility within the infield, especially given some of the talk surrounding their up-the-middle combo of Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa. I live and work in the greater DC area, and have seen these two play. Speculation around these parts is that long term, Desmond may be over his head in the Bigs as an everyday shortstop, and that Espinosa and his niftier glovework would eventually slide over across the diamond. Acquiring Callaspo would give them the flexibility to do this by plugging him in at second.

On our side, Lanna provides a number of benefits. He's a fairly reliable left-handed starter who is young(ish), and while I don't claim to be a stat-head, I think his numbers would translate extremely well to our ballpark, the Anaheim marine layer, and our solid defense. He's also affordable, and under control for another year. Acquiring him would definitely fill out our rotation nicely with another solid pitcher who can eat some innings, and provide the Soshinator with a nice combination of lefties and righties in the starting 5. Furthermore, trading Callaspo, as valuable as he's been, would also free up some roster flexibility.

Have at it!

Pujols is Reporting a Week Early

Oh, Happy President's Day! I haven't seen it posted anywhere else, but i read on ESPN Desportes a few days ago that Albert is reporting one week early. That puts him reporting along with pitchers/catchers Feb 19th, I believe. I should be there that first morning to photograph Day 1 as usual.

MLB Fan Cave Candidate

There comes a time in every man's life where he finally leaves home and goes on to become a successful adult. Well we are not here to talk about that important transition in life. I have come to solicit the help of this community for a good friend of mine (and fellow Halo aficionado ). His goal is it to be on MLB Fan Cave and his video is pretty damn awesome.
