Actor/ comedian/ cultural icon Cheech Marin and I were talking baseball and I just had to get the camera out, as he really knows and loves the sport. Here is part one of our conversation at his pad in Malibu.

In the video here he talks about playing shortstop in little league, growing up near L.A.'s Wrigley Field (home of the PCL Angels) and why the Dodgers had a national presence on early television broadcasts even before they moved to the West Coast. A unique and informed perspective by a funny, intelligent and hospitable guy.

Far out, man
This was completely awesome. Cheech the historian. The younger generation should start googling some of his earlier work instead of just knowing him from sit coms.

he made a post on twitter...
… mentioning coagula and I immediately wondered if you guys hooked up. I clicked on it and of course there was a photo of the two of you and some lady. Far out man!

This is cool Rev
I met Cheech at Bergamot one day when it was still being built. He just showed up there to look at some art that was there and stopped to talk to me and a couple of my employees at the time. Really nice guy.

This is a really cool interview...
Especially at this time of year with monotony of the Superbowl media coverage…. looking forward to Part 2!

It's amazing how intelligent and well spoken he is.
I mean logically I knew he wasn’t really the guy from up in smoke, but I still always thought of him that way.
Very cool Rev, is this part of the new SB nation youtube channel?

go back and watch born in east LA and think about issues like double consciousness in the film. The film gives a perfect visual image to accompany DuBois’ theory

How it was (and is)
All spellings are phonetically close. Some immortal names, I’m sure many omits. Wine helps.
Billy Schuster, Cecil Garriott, Eddie Malone, Eddie Sauer, Clarence Maddern, Leon Brinkoff,
Wayne Twigwiliger, Don Moran, Angel Annie, Leon Brinkoff, and everybody knows Steve Bilko and Chuck Conorrs. And Calvin Colege Mc Lish, Gene Baker, Billy Moran, Clarence Maddern,
Mgr. Bill Kelly, Cliff Chambers, and I’m sure that I have omitted many. Without looking it up, can you help me with this list.? Add Red Lynn and Red Adams.
We minus, San Diego. Then we talk Luck Ester and Jack Graham and Lane Field.
Anybody for the Hollywood Stars?
The ANGELS are the ANGELS of Anaheim, Before the Angels of Anaheim, there were baseball fans in Los Angeles, albeit in a different form that we know now. Fred Haney recreating Hollywood or LA Angels after the home game.
The Bigs were just so far away.
Wonderful brawls when Frank Kelleher of the Stars slid hard into Murry Franklin at third, Roped off outfield( to accommodate extra fans at Wrigley LA) Ted Bead.
Tony Lupian, Gus Ozark Ike,Zernial,, Carl Cox, Carlos Branier , Pinky Woods, hit the Signal Oil sign for a $100, Chuck Stevens, Bobby Bregan, Jim Baxes, Jonny O’neil, and Ixavier Resigno(best name EVER in organized baseball), Jim Delsing, must be more, but out of wine.
So many, many memories and it’s still a great game. Keep it going grandchildren….Hurry, Spring Training. I could do much on the evolution of the Anaheim Baseball Fan, but
Maybe later….

This comment works well when read in a Richard Farnsworth voice.

Met him a couple of times playing up in Edinburgh when he was a student up there...
…nice bloke – some of what he was playing in the early 90s was enough to fry neurons by the bucketload.

Nice guy. Huge hands. He would cover the whole record label when scratching or doing cue rewinds.

Who is Richard Farnsworth and what did his voice say? Missed a decade or two. But lived both.

I've only played the back 18 there but it's cool.
My friends say the front 18 is a little flat and is usually teeming with park-goers. We should play a round there or Huntington sometime.
