Halos Heaven

Phi's One Eyed Fantasy Baseball Halos Heaven Cheatastic League UPDATE- FULL

Fantasy Sports, bro.

Star-divide

Ok so I am starting up a new league after the one I had been running for five or so years went sour slightly. I play competitively and am looking for people who know how to play, trade, and be adults. No need to fluff boners, lets get into the nitty gritty, yo:

Who we have so far:

1) PhiSlamma
2) WiHaloFan
3) ItCouldHappen
4) eyespy
5) 2pintsofbooze
6) Stuck in Romania
7) b0rd3rline
8) NathanielS
9) Moondoggy
10) jimmuscomp
11) angelsownredsux

Ten people would obviously be the minimum otherwise you have way way too much talent on the waiver wire. Tweleve seems like the reasonable max, however, we can go over that if a lot of people want in.

Here is how I am used to playing, forged from tweaks year after year to make it as fun but realistic as possible while being able to make enough moves to change your roster as you see fit:

ROSTER:

Rostersz_medium

Roster is one of each; catcher, first basemen, second, third, short, center fielder, left fielder, right fielder and a utility spot which you can view as basically a DH. The players must actually qualify at the position to play there so no bullshitty "OF" positions. This gives much more value to outfielders, especially good corner ones, and is significantly more realistic than the standard "Lets have 5 OF spots, go ahead and play 5 CFers, its cool"

Pitching is 5 Starters, 4 Relievers with a Bench of 7 of whatever you want.. bringing the total to.... (brace yourself) 25. Nifty.

If you have any input on this, let me know. Nothing is set in stone but there is something much more neat about maintaining a proper 25 man roster with proper positions than having strange MI slots.

SCORING:

Scoring_medium

This is probably the thing that most people really truly care about. This changed nearly every year until we settled on this, which I love. Both categories are even, with both offense and pitching have one negative stat (walks issued and strikeouts).

I prefer walk totals to OBP because when you are in the finals its significantly more fun/easy to say "I need 4 walks today to beat WiHalo, who can I put in to do that" than "I need .54% more OBP, let me figure out what the hell that means first then Ill figure out my roster"

Same goes for walks issued. Although that stat does need some love, it seems that even if you draft amazing pitchers the person with the most Innings Pitched is going to be last or near last in walks allowed. Wins are wins. Quality Starts are a good stat as it makes up for the flaws inherent in "wins" and gives more leverage to starters. WHIP is a staple, I feel, and although it is represented slightly by having walks issued and innings pitched it also monitors your pitching staff as a whole to the effectiveness of preventing baserunners.

We have extra base hits in to give value to doubles hitters (Kendrick). Home runs tend to be overvalued in standard leagues and players who hit for good power but not over the fence tend to be completely ignored.

As for starts we have a cap of 7 per week. 7 Days per matchup, 7 starts. Streaming pitchers is brainless and takes away from the awesomeness and realisticness of trying to figure out if you want to start Bud Norris against the Nationals or see if Ubaldo can rebound against the Dodgers for your last start of the week when you are down 6.1 innings pitches, 5 strikeouts, and are tied in wins. Streaming ruins a lot of that strategy and real life like decision making that I feel make fantasy baseball fun.

Again, none of this is set in any kind of stone. Just giving you my point of view.

We usually have a add cap of 60 throughout the whole season. 60 seems like a lot, however, it prevents people from annoying dropping and adding people willy nilly and gives the process thought and value. I would like to explore a FAAB system or something, because I really like that idea.

For drafts its snake, random picked. Auction just takes too long with baseball. ESPN has a FANTASTIC online live draft system. I have used every FLB site I can find and I prefer ESPN by a lot. If you have a site you love let me know.

We usually do a keeper system as well, but it was fledgling and would love to bring it to a full, robust keeper system with the possibility of adding minor league talent in some way to rosters. Like a baby AAA farm system on your team every year that you have to carefully manage.

Also, im my opinion, Head to Head style is significantly better than Roto in about every way. Accumulating stats in the same spreadsheet as 10 people is so lackluster compared to letting 2pints know he is awful and is going down this week when I face him. It just adds so much more. I feel like its a must, but again, its up to the majority.

I am sure I am leaving things out, but if you want in, or want to discuss the league set up, or anything this would be the place to do it. As soon as we agree on rules, setup, site, and get the full batch of people then I will make the league and send invites.

Thanks, you guys are awesome

<3 Phi

I would join but

i think Phi is still bitter about the matchup where i kicked his ass

Nah you know I love you DoV
you never tell me that anymore
I'm down if you want me!
Sure, email me

mrguyofstuff2@gmail.com and you can secure your spot.

Or give me your email, either or
angelfan_57@yahoo.com

k-rod used to be cool…

k done, you are in
Only played Roto

so I’m looking forward to this.

I'm interested....

if you can take another.

jimscully@mac.com.

First come first serve

and you are in.

Thats 11

I love this semi sabresque format

if you still need another I’m in

btw has anyone considered starting a keeper league

I’m already in one but would enjoy playing in an HH only league

keepers with a minor league farm system I mean
This would prefferably be a HH keeper league that lives on

I dont like one and dones

would you consider minor league farm systems?

would make it much more intense and intriguing

I mentioned it above in the post

so yes, I would definitely be interested in looking into it.

how about going full sabre?

OBP and XBH for hitters and Ks, BBs (possibly WHIP) and HRs allowed for pitchers

I should probably stop talking to myself
Sweet!

I’m in both DOV’s league and PHI’s…
Next year my vote between you two shall go to he who commission’s the best…

How many leagues now will you kick my ass?
how many are we in together?
3 or 4...I can't bemember
Well, thank you for giving me a little help in all those leagues...

I owe you!

waiting for trouts email, then that will be 12, ill be willing to go SUPER deep to 14 but thats my hard cap.

If I dont get any more responses soon Ill lock this up and call it a league, then email everyone.

Phi, I will do my best

But if my shitty dial up internet in Maine causes me to lose interest in monitoring two teams (Angels and fantasy) and I start to slip in our fantasy league…. will I get my eyes gouged out?

Try and set your roster ahead of time as best you can

if you completely lose all interest Ill end up setting your roster for you and we’ll probably just replace you next year or something.

That being said, if all goes well, you will want to play well and win.

What phone do you have?
Yes this is relevant
not a smart phone....
Grr

ok.

If you had a 3g/4g phone I could email you exactly how to get free internets forever for your comp with your phone. Invest in one, they are super cheap now.

4G is ridiculously good internet speeds too.

..... I look at my brother and mother on their smart phones playing words with friends

And I bury my head in my whiskey and dream of a simpler time when people were forced to talk to each other…. over whiskey

I use my smart phone to do non-evil things

i have not one game on it, nor do I plan to have one. They CAN be used for not bullshitty reasons, and are quite useful when you know whats up. It beats the holy living shit out of dial up thats for sure.

Well the idea of it sounds nice actually....

infinite internets would make me buy mlb.tv and actually be able to watch angels games instead of watching illegal feeds in my car as i sit outside the one wifi spot near my house until 2 oclock in the morning eastern time….

Yeah that sounds awful

really awful.

so you're saying....

If I got a 3g phone I could tether it to my computer easily and well enough to fool Verizon that I could stream all the games infinitely?

Yes

But within reason

3G would let you surf the internet and HH it up and such, facebook what have you

4G would let you torrent at 1 mb/s, stream games, and other high bandwidth things. There is an app that makes it super simple to tether any comp to your phone and as long as you have service you are good to go.

Sprint is retarded and offers unlimited data with no throttling so I can get away with whatever I want, Im not sure about Verizons data policies, just make sure if they have a cap to monitor your useage.

If you do it right you can get pretty damn good internet for your comp for no extra munniez than just paying a bill you would anyway

hmmm might have to consider forsaking my beliefs and morals

and get a smart phone

Watch out

They can tell what you are using besides your phone to do your internetting.

Go over by using your phone as a wireless modem, could have you condemned. It won’t cost you nothing. they will just cut your line.

Doesn’t Eas$PeeiN have an app for their fantasy games?

What kind of phone you running there Phi?

Samsung Galaxy s2
Stock or rooted

I’m rolling a EVO 4G rooted with some bad ass mods running on it for extra speed, and wireless tether.

Have not rooted it as of yet

Will soon though.

Cool. FAB system. Does that mean that I get to drive this?

Yes and yes.

And yes.

Phi, if you hae space, I'm in
Am I in this shit, due to previous thread discussion on the topic?

Or did I have to email and shit?

You are the 14th and last
In before the bell, per usual.

I will make this league my bitch.*

*this is my first time playing fantasy baseball. I may not actual make this league my bitch.

League is set.

I will send out a mass email regarding rules, vetoing, and trades and whatnot. Lets get everything settled ahead of time and have fun guys.

Thumbs up ...

and ready

Shit this league sounds awesome

Im sick of the guys I play with dropping out by the all star break. Good luck to everyone in this league. Should be a good one, Phi.

there still room?
We have 14

Any more and Im sure it will suck. To keep competitive balance around where I want it Im going to stop here.

However.

Im sure there will be at least one to four people who stop playing around the ASB. I will replace them next year with willing participants. Like me on this website I dont plan to stop this anytime soon so you bet your ass you have a spot next year.

is there money involved?
This is a dry run

if it goes really well and we want to play for some cheddar then we can discuss it next offseason.

I like the idea of actual OF positions

This is going to be cool.

The way this is setup

makes it incredibly more fun to talk trades, prepare for drafts, and maintain rosters.

MAYHEM

need your email again. Shoot me one or something.

any room for one more?
Full up

Sorry mate

just signed up

any ideas yet as to the draft date and time? for me a Wednesday or Tuesday evening would work nicely. please no weekends, unless its sunday night. there’s nothing worse than a draft scheduled on a saturday at 2pm.

Ill start a thread on the FLB site and we can discuss

I just woke up because Im battling flu of horribleness so Im behind.

going off the grid for a week

so if you try to contact me regarding the league know that I’m not ignoring you

Kk

see you in a week

HAY

CAN I JOIN 2???

I am good at baseball.

Argh

Saw this too late … good luck to you all!
