In the fifth installment of the first round we have our first female enter the arena. So far all the matchups have generated quite a lot of posts and fun, so hopefully CommNate and Opie can keep it going. Winner of this match meets Welch in the second round. Polling goes till the 11th, when the next matchup will be posted.
I really dont know who is going to win this one, especially after the ridiculously close race between DoV and I. Lets see those self-promoting posts at their finest.

Commander Nate is really happy to see Opiejeanne.
Mayheminthehood - January 9, 2012 via mobile
What????!!!
You think I can’t take him DOWN?
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I think you can, but IT will be HARD.
Mayheminthehood - January 9, 2012 via mobile
I think so too.
I take nothing for granted. He’s a great guy, a great poster, and people will vote for whom they wish.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
You got my vote.
5thStarter - January 9, 2012
sorry Opie, but I gotta go with my boy CommNate
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
No cookies for you.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I voted for you even before I knew you were giving out cookies!
Match Day 5 - January 9, 2012
Me too.
You get my vote cookies or no cookies
LanaBanana - January 9, 2012
And yay!
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Yay!
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I guess I am going to have to bake a whole lot of cookies next time I come south.
We should have a meet-up. We’ll be down in March.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Yay!
LanaBanana - January 9, 2012
we're gonna find out
who is a lover and who is a fighter
Rev Halofan - January 9, 2012
I'm willing to bet that OpieJeanne is a fighter.
And one that is not afraid to fight dirty either. I have sisters, I know.
In short, OpieJeanne gets my vote.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
I don't know anything about Opiejeanne....
Which doesn’t bode well for her chances of getting my vote..
BigGame48 - January 9, 2012
Or his* chances...
I guess that proves my own point.
BigGame48 - January 9, 2012
you had it right the first time
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
Oh go away. I like Commander Nate as much as the next guy
who happens to be… you. Something you’d like to confide?
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
go away???
I was letting him know that you’re, in fact, a woman. next time I’ll just let him think you’re a man, especially now that I’m not getting any cookies!!! :)
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
Oh, I misread his comments. Duh. (I'm really sleepy)
I guess you’re back on the cookie list.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
SCORE!!!
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
Hahahaha!
I was just looking around for a gif, and trying to remember how to post them here, because I almost never use them.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
confession
i don’t know how to post gifs here.
Rev Halofan - January 9, 2012
Noooooo!
I got one to work, but I am not sure what I did because all of the advice I was given did not seem to apply to what I was working with.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
It's just the same as a picture.
Just gotta make sure you’re linking to your own hosting account (photobucket or whatever) so that it doesn’t get taken down.
At least, that is, until SOPA goes into effect. Then we’re all screwed.
Match Day 5 - January 10, 2012
You mentioned it
Now you’re on the NDAA list…wait…now I’m f***ed too!
Commander_Nate - January 10, 2012
Ok, so I won't mention SOPA...
Oh nooooooo!
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
And PIPA too.
red floyd - January 10, 2012
How long do we have?
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
But Pippa's still okay, right?
Match Day 5 - January 10, 2012
Pippa's doing fine
The Limey - January 10, 2012
it is lopsided?
DAD OF VLAD - January 10, 2012
Right leg is bending more than the left is all.
Besides, looks pretty good to me either way.
Angelsfan015 - January 10, 2012
you'll have to excuse DOV
his first instinct when he looks at a woman is to make sure she has proper child bearing hips. He’s what one may call a connoisseur on the matter.
2pintsofbooze - January 10, 2012
Good thought.
I had not taken that into consideration.
Angelsfan015 - January 11, 2012
I think I've got it figured out now.
In Photobucket it’s the HTML code.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
In Photobucket
I copy the direct code, and paste it into the pop-up window from clicking on the tree icon.
eyespy - January 10, 2012
me either, Rev
hk47 - January 12, 2012
I think this was one of his finer moments.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
AND THATS WHY WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
NathanielS - January 9, 2012
Do you know CommanderNate, though?
He’s a fine fellow, a very fine fellow.
You should vote for one of us.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Who are you again? ;-)
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
opie with the burn...
I’m a nobody around here compared to you ;-)
Good luck.
BigGame48 - January 9, 2012
Nah, I'm a silly old lady.
Don’t mind me, I don’t bite.
Much.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OPIEJEANNE!!?!?
You betta recognize, foo.
hk47 - January 10, 2012
Knowing Ladybug and Opie are a must if you wanna post on this MB
Just sayin’
hk47 - January 10, 2012
Ok, it's finally up and I'm going to post my shameless request that you choose ME!!!!
before I read anything anyone has written about me or Nate, so I don’t lose my nerve.
I was so nervous about this competition, YES, THIS COMPETITION!!! that I didn’t sleep at all last night. And 3am is a hell of an hour to start reading “The Hunger Games”, in a feeble hope that it would put me to sleep. Quite the contrary. So, I haven’t had any caffeine and I’m loopy from lack of sleep.
Well, a little loopier than usual.
How do I compare to CommanderNate?
I’m pretty sure I’ve been an Angels fan longer than Commander Nate has been alive.
I share more dumb stories than anyone else on this site, and I was sober for most of them
I’m one of the ladies: you want to encourage us, right? (and anyone who calls me a lady will get a smack)
I’m a decent cook: I know that bacon makes everything better. Yeah, I know what you guys like, and I love to torment you with stories about what I cook every night.
I’m a cheap date: half a margarita and I’m dancing on the table.
I’m also a happy drunk, which should count for something
I love red. I wear it almost all the time.
I wear my Angels hat up here in Mariners territory All The Time, and when I go to a game either here or in Oakland I wear the hat AND the shirt. I REPRESENT!
I wore my Halos Heaven Rally Rat t-shirt when Rex posed with me for a picture at Spring Training last year.
I smuggled a corgi into Canada last Friday, which makes me a corgi smuggler! Who else can claim such a thing?
I am exiled to the Pacific Northwest and only see the sun for 8 weeks a year. That should entitled me to at least a couple of “pity votes”.
There’s probably a lot more I could say but I’ll think of it later.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Hey lady, a good smack or a bad smack?
snowhor - January 9, 2012
Which would you prefer?
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
A lot of both.
snowhor - January 9, 2012
I could oblige.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
"I smuggled a corgi into Canada last Friday"
So many euphemisms, so few words….
mattwelch - January 9, 2012
Not a single euphemism there.
except maybe smuggle. I did cross an international border with a corgi, and had lunch at Al Capone’s old smuggling outpost.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Birds of a feather
eyespy - January 9, 2012
Do you suppose Al was smuggling Corgis too?
There used to be tunnels that ran from the pub under the international border, and they used them to smuggle whiskey into Washington during Prohibition.
Maybe they picked up a shipment of Corgis for the return trip.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Smuggling corgis across borders...
…pretty sure that puts you in the same bracket as Old Libby Windsor. That’s probably worth a vote, which is more than ’er Maj has ever had.
The Limey - January 9, 2012
I love you!
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I was going to say that I was grateful that she
didn’t smuggle them in her knickers.
But that would be impolite.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
The only person who gets to journey in the Royal undercarriage...
…is Big Phil the Greek
The Limey - January 9, 2012
It's just as well.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
not too impressed with the mariners/oakland
I rock Angels red hat/shirt year round in Boston…. go to games at Fenway and watch ehm in faux irish pubs….. that means i have to deal with more pink hats than most and those are the worst
ItCouldHappen - January 9, 2012
I know it's worse for you
but I do what I can.
Mostly it’s the Boston fans HERE that annoy me.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
if i cared enough to rec a comment I would for that
At least the pinkhatters i deal with are offset by a fairly large population of legit fans (believe it or not there are some including my best baseball bud), I bet out there you guys got a bunch of phonies who still believe that paplebon is the best closer in the league
ItCouldHappen - January 9, 2012
Yes, yes we do.
And they show up at Angels/Mariners games, and they sneer.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Corgi for the win!
atlantangel - January 10, 2012
Yummmmmm, bacon
starting to sway my vote
steelgolf - January 10, 2012
Maybe I should mention that I got married as a teenager
and 42 years later I’m still a teenager in my head (and still married to that guy), although recently I notice that I have matured a bit and now I think I’m about 19. I met David in my Freshman year at Cal Poly Pomona and I just can’t seem to get rid of him.
I went back to college 3 years later and graduated cum laude, in 3 years. BA in Music. Jazz band, orchestra, choir, etc. Piano, clarinet, etc.
After which I worked as a professional musician when I could find work (I am nothing special, don’t get excited), taught music at a Catholic school (the nuns lied to me. yes, they did), worked a variety of fun but meaningless jobs, and in 1995 I opened my own business. I’d been making costumes and clothing for people for years but not officially. I know what it’s like to own a company and run it, so you should vote for…. sorry, I’ve been hearing this so much recently. Anyway, I had clients but there are dead seasons, and the first three months the company just coasted along after an initial flurry of orders, and then there was this one costume,

remember this was 1995 (and these are young teenagers). Across the bay from San Francisco. After that he phone never stopped ringing (because dance studios are full of strange people).
Among my regular clients were a dozen dance studios, bread and butter for a business like this, but also ice skaters, roller skaters, several cabaret performers, swing dancers, a theater in SF, The Golden State Warrior Girls, and the Chocolate Chippendales. My work has appeared on the posters for national skating championships, in the Raiderettes calendar, (safe for work)
and always got great reviews in the SF Chronicle even if the show was a bust. I produced several hundred costumes every year, by myself.
When we moved back to Southern California I sold the business and retired, although I did still crank out a couple hundred costumes and clothing for dancers once I got back but I really am retired now.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
Looks like an ex girlfriend of mine in the 80s
I think Opie is trying to sway my vote in her direction.
steelgolf - January 10, 2012
Her name is Roxanne
and the photo didn’t do her justice, not by a long shot. The woman was gorgeous.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
have you ever done an Irish Dancing Dress?
my wife wants to do one i am not so sure about it
DAD OF VLAD - January 10, 2012
I've never done one
I know they are pretty expensive to buy because I thought about dropping off my business card at a place in SF and looked into what was involved in making one.
Your daughter already takes classes, right?
My girls took a couple of months of Step Dancing from a young man who was part of the San Francisco Ballet; can’t remember his name now. They loved it but they were too busy to go into SF for classes on a regular basis.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
dresses range from 600 - 4000 most costing $1200
and that is solo dresses

school dresses are only $250
she has been in it a few years now and is getting to the solo dress level.
DAD OF VLAD - January 10, 2012
I can see why they're so expensive,
my gosh, the workmanship is incredible.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
it is crazy
and those are tame
DAD OF VLAD - January 11, 2012
which one is the wife?
ladybug - January 11, 2012
none
my daughter dances
DAD OF VLAD - January 11, 2012

Wow. I didn't realize that I was so spectacularly
unspectacular.
I think I’ll go read the second book in the set and check in later.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
The Hunger Games books rock!!
I read all three in a short amount of time recently. Katniss is awesome.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
I really did not sleep at all last night.
And I really did pick up that book at 3am, and finished at 8am.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
If I had not already given you my vote, I would be giving it to you now.
I love anyone that enjoys books. Females especially.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
Sorry, CommNate, but Opie's my bud.
Plus she’s also a Monty Python fan!!!

Thank you.
I’ve forgotten how to do this.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
opie, has anyone told you that you resemble Rex Hudler
you get my vote for the Hudler semblance.
angelsownredsux - January 9, 2012
No, and I am thinner than this picture makes me look.
Man, it was hot that day, even under the shade-cloth.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I have got to vote Commander Nate
As we share a name, and he’s had my back at MLBTR. Also, very welcoming when I initially joined HH.
Though Opie is awesome.
NathanielS - January 9, 2012
That's right, butter me up, buttercup
and then let me down.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
but we love you still!!!
….ladybug is your campaign manager, I see…
angels_rally_mom - January 9, 2012
of course!
ladybug - January 9, 2012
Opie wins on style. Nate wins on substance.
In this case, I vote substance.
angelslogic - January 9, 2012
40+ years of fanhood should count for some sort of substance.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
old school vs. new school
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
substance.....
such a loaded word
ItCouldHappen - January 9, 2012
And too often abused.

Yet so funny.
I may just have something wrong with me, though.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
I have a feeling this tournament is gonna create some epic grudges...
Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
DOV is holding grudges
and he won!
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
He had plenty of family votes to inflate his numbers, though.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
It will be interesting, to be sure.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
and you created it. Minus 20 points for you!
nah, I think 99.9% of us can handle it. DOV is the 0.1%

I don’t remember her name.

Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
LOL BONERS ARE HILARIOUS
red floyd - January 9, 2012
on an unrelated note, opie
what’d you think of The Hunger Games? I enjoyed the shit out of the first book. second book, a little less, but still liked it. and the 3rd book, although very different, I still liked. I know most people didn’t like the 3rd book, but I was ok with it.
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
I liked the first book,
I remember the short story, “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, and this is basically that same story but expanded and with an explanation of how things came to be. It also reminded me of a short story that appeared in Playboy many years ago, about using hunger to demoralize and eventually destroy an occupied people. Chilling.
I haven’t gotten very far into the second book, on the fifth page right now.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
lier
no one reads Playboy
DAD OF VLAD - January 9, 2012
Women do.
After we take a good look at the goods and decide if we’re hotter. I used to win those comparisons.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
"The Lottery" bugs me
Studied it in Literature courses
ryanfea - January 9, 2012
I thought it was depressing, but this takes the idea of a lottery to select a set of champions
who are then sent into an arena to kill each other.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
"The Lottery" was depressing, but the Hunger Games books go even farther.
Kids killing kids for the “sport” of the Capital dwellers. Really just an exercising of the Capital’s powers on the Districts. Kinda scary.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
Have you read "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorow?
A friend lent me his copy, but it’s available online for free.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I have not. I will put it on my "to read" list.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
Authoritarian state vs. bunch of bright teenagers.
I had to get out the map, though, because it’s set in San Francisco and he describes routes that the main characters take, and they’re just not quite right. I spent 9 years in the East Bay, and a lot of time driving into SF so I knew something was screwy. For one thing, Portrero Hill is not where he thinks it is.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Creative license at work, clearly.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
Oh yeah, I get that.
It wouldn’t have bothered me if I hadn’t been all over that area, and I got a little confused.

2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
Ok, finished book #2
and a few pages in realized that Capitol is Rome, not long before the empire fell. The author really smacks you over the head with it, stopping just short of using the term “vomitorium”.
The second book makes me aware that this is Young Adult literature, which I did not feel so much in the first book.
The ending of book 2 makes use of a Deus ex Machina, in a literary way as well as an actual way. I like it.
Onward, to the final book.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
The last book is unlike the first two.
Good, but different.
Angelsfan015 - January 10, 2012
just noticed the title of the poll
hahahaha

2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
On Yahoo, there were pics of her in an all-black suit a while back.
tight enough to look good without being a second skin. It looked good on her.

Can’t I have both?
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012

you probably couldn’t even handle one of them
:)
2pintsofbooze - January 9, 2012
Doesn't mean I am unwilling to give it a try at both.

YOUknowulovetheIE - January 9, 2012 via mobile
Wow! Most of the people I know, regardless of gender, who have been Angels fans for more than 10 years
Are here on this site.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
F*** Mondays
Before I get started on my campaign, I’d like to say that it is unfair to match me up against someone’s mom (pretty sure opie has said she has kids on here before). Having a mom myself, I know how awesome they are and how inappropriate it is to get into an argument with them, especially when they are other people’s moms. Any sort of negativity or criticism against them is socially unacceptable and therefore I will be forced to run a positive campaign. I will be filing a protest about this injustice in the near future with the SBN Poster’s Association. Plus, I like cookies.
AHEM
Reasons to vote for me (Commander_Nate):
1) Consistency: My weekday routine has hardly varied over the past 2.5 years and largely revolves around HH. I wake up, go back to sleep for 15 minutes, wake up again, shower, drink a breakfast shake, tie my shoes and go to work. Upon arriving, I immediately go to HH (usually before checking for work) and leave it open in a browser tab all day. I would not be surprised if there are some days when I’m responsible for like 10% of the comment traffic. I take HH, the Angels, boner jokes and other such tomfoolery very seriously. It is an honor to contribute as much as possible to this place where we all spend our workdays.
2) Foreign Correspondent: I hold the self-appointed position of “HH Japanese Baseball Guy,” which, yes, is kind of strange to me too. I dunno what it is, but ever since the WBC became a thing, I have become increasingly interested in following the world’s second biggest league and sharing that information with you all when relevant. I am trying to expand this fandom to Korea and elsewhere as well. This growing hobby of mine is kinda difficult to have, since I have to rely on translated news and untranslated video streams from sometimes shady places (thank you anti-virus software). I guess it boils down to a serious obsession with baseball and the fact that it is rarely reported on over here so I feel a strong need to know. Plus, I would like to see the Angels nab the next “big thing” to come across the Pacific, wouldn’t you?
3) Contributions to the Advancement of Scioscialism: Now, obviously the continued expansion of our beloved philosophy is a team effort, but I did create this highly effective campaign poster for use as official state propaganda against the imperialist pigs of Boston, New York and Texas. I also organized this pitchfork campaign over the FO’s horrible idea to “honor” Derek Jeter for his 3000th hit on our turf. You may remember this caused a bit of a shitstorm that ended with our own Quad Fin Rider having a phone conversation with someone from the Angels’ brass. All of this I did for you, HHers.
4) LULZ: I like to think I do my part in contributing to the hilarious, sports bar-style atmosphere of this place by crackin’ wise fairly often. I know I had a few good ones this past year (the “you are now free to lose about the country” comment comes to mind), but for some reason the search feature seems to be malfunctioning so I can’t link at the moment. (Rev, are they updating this or something?)
5) Other: Let’s see, what else. I have worn a full-sized Angels flag as a cape to multiple playoff games whilst getting uproariously drunk. If I can find where I saved the pics I will post one. My friend also swears that I yelled at Pedro Gomez of that one channel for being a Boston homer as we were leaving OC Sports Grill several years ago, but I still don’t know if I believe it was him. Also, my first legally bought alcoholic beverage came from one of the beer carts in the RF Pavillion…a moment I shall always cherish.
In short, I like the Angels and I like to party as evidenced below (me on the left).
More importantly, I like to win and would consider it an honor and a challenge to do battle with Jedi Master Welch in the next round. VOTE COMMANDER_NATE!!!
(And good luck to you, Opie!)
May the most premium CERA be with you all.
Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
if only you were opie, I'd vote for you
ladybug - January 9, 2012
Damn! You are awesome.
And some of the awesomeness is the same awesomeness exuded by me, as well.
I too check HH before I put on my shoes in the morning, heck, I do it in my pj’s, before breakfast.
But you got Quad Fin Rider in trouble with the FO? With that poster? Massive awesomeness!
Heck, I’d vote for you if I weren’t running against you.
Oh wait, next up against the winner is Matt Welch? I ….. will have to think about this.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Oh, and I yelled at a player once.
but it was an Oakland Warrior. Stupid dribbler found himself at the goal with no one guarding it and he was just going to wait for one of his teammates to come down so he could pass it.
There was a lull in the noise and I yelled “SHOOT THE BALL”!
He looked startled, and put it in the hoop.
That is the WORST basketball team on the planet, and I wouldn’t have been there if they hadn’t comped me the tickets.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I hate it when people on the field don't do what we tell them
So annoying!
Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
Hahahaha!
They had just acquired this player named Mugsy Bogue, wonderful player, really short, and he was the only thing not putting us to sleep.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
ROFL
At least he could say he was born with that name, unlike “World Peace.”
Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
Artest? I don't know what to think of him.
Oh, I misspelled his name: Muggsy Bogues. Oakland didn’t hang onto Muggsy for long, just that season.
I made an opening night costume, a tear-away, for the Warrior Girls, it was cute and the strip-tease got their director fired.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
That's pretty awesome
Behind the scenes pwnage is the best.
Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
Got the FO in trouble with QFR actually from what I understand
Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
Does he have pull?
I am in desperate need of sleep right now, and can’t remember a lot of stuff.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
I think it had something to do with what he wrote in his e-mail to them
He mentioned possible security risks created by angry, irrational NYY bandwagoners or something.

Bwah! I missed that, I think.

Thank you.
opiejeanne - January 11, 2012
And this is the older one
This was a headshot for Broadway auditions.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
I have a cousin Beverly that dances professionally.
She has been in sat least one Broadway show (don’t know which) and has done a few stints on cruise ships as well. She is not only talented, but beautiful to boot.
Angelsfan015 - January 10, 2012
Beth was in NYC for a month in her senior year at UCI, on an exchange program
Part of the program was to send these students to masses of auditions while they were there. If they didn’t have an audition, they were expected to attend class at NYU. They lived in the Village, four to a room. She spent most of her time in class that month because there weren’t as many auditions as expected, and she was not hired for any of them, but she did get a callback for “Grease”. She sang “Chicago, Illinois” from Victor Victoria; she’s typed as the “blond comedienne”, like Judy Holliday in “Born Yesterday”. She didn’t get any farther than the callback and had to catch a plane back the next day.
She sang it for us in the car on the way home from the airport and I nearly drove off the rode I was laughing so hard.
That was in the Winter quarter, 2001. Every day she and the rest of the girls walked past the Trade Center, and every day they walked past a fire station a block away, and the firemen would flirt with them. The last day the firemen talked them into taking a picture with all of these singers and dancers and actresses. I think everyone knows about that fire station, everyone knows what happened to those firemen.
I don’t have a copy. I wish I did.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
At least your daughter has her memories.
The Egyptians believed that as long as you were not forgotten, you never truly are gone. I happen to think that belief is a pretty good one, too.
Angelsfan015 - January 11, 2012
Sweet sideburns bro
you got my vote.

Perhaps. I would also have accepted "the other side of the mountain."
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
I'd like to take 'chicken crossing the road' for $500, Alex
ladybug - January 9, 2012
And the answer is:
Why?
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
sorry. "because the stadium is there" is the correct answer
ladybug - January 9, 2012
Silly me.
I now feel embarrassment at messing that up.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
nah, that was a toughie
ladybug - January 9, 2012
Thanks.
Angelsfan015 - January 9, 2012
corrrect answer would be
what is “because the stadium is there”?
angels_rally_mom - January 9, 2012
ummm, that's what I said up ^^^there
ladybug - January 9, 2012
Beats chicken crossing a mobius strip.

Commander_Nate - January 9, 2012
Going back to the cabin one night,

opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Blue Jay.
Where you at?
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Arrowhead. Im a local student at Rim.
Halos2011champs - January 9, 2012
My first scrimmage as a Frosh football player at San Bernardino High School in '89,
Was against Rim High School. I remember laughing my ass off, for two reasons. First off, the Rim kids were complaining about the heat (it was only 94, for Berdoo in August, that’s chilly), and secondly, their biggest offensive lineman was like five-eight, and 210 LBS. Our smallest Samoan offensive lineman’s little sister was that big, and stronger!
halofolife - January 9, 2012
My husband graduated from San Bernardino HS.
in 1965.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Our FB team has had its glory days. More recently, they went pretty far in CIF I believe semi finals.
I would not doubt they hated the heat though. I cant stand heat. 94 is death heat to mountain folk. We also have notoriously small players too. although we have grown form Five-Eight. But with all that said, Ski team is where the party is.
Halos2011champs - January 10, 2012
We pick up the Mountain News every time we are in town.
We have followed the football team that way and online for several years.
When we lived in Castro Valley, there was a ‘heat wave’ in SF that sent people to the emergency rooms. I think it was 75-77 degrees, and people were really suffering. We had just moved up from Riverside and couldn’t wrap our heads around it.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
right around the corner.
The cabin is on 189, between Agua Fria and Blue Jay. It’s less than 1/4 mile to Jensen’s.

LanaBanana - January 10, 2012
Oh! I forgot to tell everyone that I used to make costumes.
For exotic dancers.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
call 'em strippers. It gets their attention better
ladybug - January 9, 2012
There is a difference.
Strippers get nekkid, exotic dancers do not.
Truth be told, the girls in the troop were dull dull dull. Wouldn’t let me put fringe or feathers or rhinestones nor nothin’ on the costumes I made them. The guys, though, they knew what it was all a-bout.

Yeah, not my fault my party seems to have lost its collective mind.
These days I get called a RINO by these young whippersnappers with trust funds.

Um, I didn't do either of those things.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
Opie, what about being in a band?
c’mon, there have to some “almost famous” type stories that could score cool points.
Moondoggy - January 9, 2012
Yeah, I was in a band.
In college a guy named Rick Barton and I put together a band, and our lead singer was a cute blond named Kathy who was in Kentucky Fried Movie; she was sort of a Jane Russell look-alike, IIRC but I don’t know if her scenes were cut from the final product or not. We played a few gigs, then everybody graduated included the twins who played bass and drums and it got tough to keep it together. They all lived in Pomona and I lived in Riverside, and Rick kept making me fire the drummers (prior to the twins).
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
You went to highschool in Riverside in the early 60s?
I wonder if you knew my dad. He was the senior class president at Poly in ’65.
Halowitz - January 9, 2012
I went to Temple City HS.
And after I got married we lived in Riverside for 23 years, so I might know your dad just because of that.

Will Darvish be willing to play in Texas that long.
See Yu in 2014
eyespy - January 9, 2012
So hey...
Couldn’t the Angels have put a posting bid of like say… 100 million and then just “conveniently” failed to sign him getting there money back and making it so nobody gets Darvish this year?

stuck in Romania - January 10, 2012
Technically he can award the rights to the second highest bidder
If he feels the team that won the bidding isn’t negotiating in good faith. That probably wouldn’t be pretty scenario to watch unfold.
Commander_Nate - January 10, 2012
So the Jays could get him then?
Cuz he’s only getting Dice K money…
stuck in Romania - January 10, 2012
Theoretically
I’d imagine there would be quite a shitstorm over what qualifies as “bad faith” negotiations.
Commander_Nate - January 11, 2012
Phi. Dude. That picture looks like XKCD only without any artistic talent.

K3YEROUT - January 9, 2012
I have got to go to bed.
I really have not slept since Saturday night, and I’m dying.
opiejeanne - January 9, 2012
gotta stick with the girls on this one.
Go Opiejeanne!!!!!
angelsfan7 - January 10, 2012
dang, Nate really pulled ahead since last night
last I looked he only led by 9
2pintsofbooze - January 10, 2012
Yeah.
And some of the reasons given are so shallow. Sideburns? Really?
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
My rule going into this was
Vote for myself or anyone with sweet sideburns.
PhiSlamma - January 10, 2012 via Android app
I didn't think they'd be that much of a factor honestly
They are pretty modest compared to some I’ve seen. My buddy in that pic way above now has a full beard/burns combo that would make a pirate jealous, for example.
Commander_Nate - January 10, 2012
In other words, the guy.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
Although, if sideburns is the key
I could glue some on.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
I was going to comment on some of the women I've dated
but some things are better left unsaid
Moondoggy - January 11, 2012
Hmm tough choice..
I love to party and I love the Hunger Games! Decisions, Decisions……….
angelsown3417 - January 10, 2012
Ok, now THIS is a deep thinker.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
After comtemplating for over an hour..
I decided to go with you! Congrats on the great honor of my vote :)
angelsown3417 - January 10, 2012
Thank you very much.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
BOOBS, GUYS! I'VE GOT BOOBS!!!
Yeesh, this brings back memories of running for student senate in college.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
Great...
Since someone upthread mentioned you looking like Rex Hudler (a sentiment with which I completely disagree), I’m now picturing Rex with boobs.
5thStarter - January 10, 2012
With the medical marijuana use, that may not be too far a stretch of the imagination.
Just saying.
Angelsfan015 - January 10, 2012
oh so we can vote for boobs
but not sweet sideburns?
2pintsofbooze - January 10, 2012
Stylecist
Commander_Nate - January 10, 2012
Imposter
red floyd - January 10, 2012
Yes, I am stooping to that level
Just trying to figure out how to compete with OMFCLOLPONIES
SWEET SIDEBURNS!
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
My theory is they appeal to the numerous 20-something ladies that lurk on HH...
Commander_Nate - January 10, 2012
Lots of those guys.
Not too many ladies in their 60s, and not all guys in their 20s realize yet how cool the old ladies can be. Some get it, but not all.
opiejeanne - January 10, 2012
Then again, not all guys in their 20's think with their BRAINS.
Not profiling, just speaking from personal past experience(s).
Angelsfan015 - January 10, 2012
But they DO thing with their brains (pural)
the two little ones
Moondoggy - January 11, 2012
Preach on, Brother.
Angelsfan015 - January 11, 2012
So does this mean that I don'

Excuse me SBN with no edit button, while I finish my sentence...
So does this mean that I don’t get any cookies? I thought Opie would take this one.
stuck in Romania - January 11, 2012
stuck in Romania (can't get the reply button to work)
I will make enough cookies for everyone, if we have a meetup in March/April. I think we’re coming down in late March and staying for several weeks this time. Cabin needs work.
opiejeanne - January 11, 2012
Is it time for a concession speech?
Commander Nate, I have to hand it to you. I could make a joke about you winning because you’ve got balls, but it’s too easy.
So, go get Matt Welch. It’s been a pleasure losing to you nearly 3-1.
opiejeanne - January 11, 2012
honestly
it kinda stings.
PhiSlamma - January 11, 2012

That should be the name of the A's blog.
Match Day 5 - January 12, 2012
It's the difference in the number of votes that hurts.
I mean, I like the guy but I thought I was fairly popular as well.
opiejeanne - January 11, 2012
The noobs don't know you, Opie
Moondoggy - January 11, 2012
If I could have voted more than once for you, I would have.
Angelsfan015 - January 16, 2012
I shall do my best
Cheers to you! We were neck and neck there for a while.
