Star-divide

The Angels front office is almost completely rebuilt. I hope Sandee at the front desk there kept her job. The new head of Minor League operations is Mike LaCassa, pilfered from the Texas Rangers. Read all about it: Angels hire Mike LaCassa to be manager of Minor League operations. The only people left besides Arte, Kuhl and Carpino are Scouting Director Ric Wilson (hired just 14 months ago to replace Eddie Bane) and Rodger Fracking Lodge.

Steve Hernandez once coached at Fontana High. Now he coaches at Inland Empire for the Angels Single-A 66ers. Like many baseball analysts, he thinks adding Albert Pujols is a step in the right direction for the club. Read all about it: Ex-Fohi Coach Hopes in Angels.

As reported and linked and discussed here at Halos Heaven, Howie and Aybar are discussing contract extensions. Read all about it: Angels Discussing Contract Extensions With Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar.

Unlike Tony Reagins never talking to the media because he was in over his head and making it all up as he went along, Angels GM Jerry Dipoto cleared the air about there being VERY VERY little chance of signing a free agent closer.

Bayo Olukotun at The Huffington Post has coverage of the Suprcross Motorcycle extravaganza coming to the mound of dirt over at Angel Stadium right now. Read all about it: Anaheim I: Game On. OH... And speaking of the Huff-Po, man they will let ANYONE write there, won't they? (although dig the retweet numbers).

Tough one, but I went with HK47

Although I do love watching Aybar freak out every now and then. Case in point, one of my all time fav gifs…

It's better with the bees.
The question takes a lot of pressure off the actual dilemma.

Contrary to the beliefs of many here at HH, I think Howie is an Angels gem. He’s not hitting .350, but he’s getting better, and better, and better. 18 homers, .802 OPS….hmmmh.

All his professional career, Aybar has been a play maker. Good or bad, things happen when he’s in the game. He’s good for the Angels.

Because the Angels have now moved Segura to SS, I have to wonder what will eventually happen with him. I’m confident that his competence at both 2B and SS is firmly in the minds of the agents for both Aybar and Kendrick, thus keeping things from “getting out of hand”.

In my mind, the litmus test is: How would “this guy” look in a Rangers uniform?

Segura? ?? ??? He’s 21, soon to be 22 years old, possibly headed to AA Arkansas.

There will always be room...

… On the Sotha bench for another slap hitting infielder.

apparently the iPhone...

… Autocorrects Soths into sotha

DiPoto said the same thing about Pujols

Madson will be ours by the end of the month.

I doubt Madson is coming here unless he's willing to sign a 1 or 2 year deal though.

I don’t think Dipoto is going to give a reliever a 3 or 4 year deal, thankfully.

yah, they say things as part of negotiations and such.

very very unlikely = totally possible

I would get rid of Aybar

Non-clutch,doesn’t bring much of anything to the table. Total play-off choker.

You have an interesting definition of "doesn't bring much of anything to the table"
I think waters96 invited him to dinner once.

Apparently, it didn’t go well.

The GIF says it all.

If he’s willing to freak out like that in front of thousands, imagine what he does when just waters96 and his lady are watching and he gets stuck with the small slice of Dominos Pizza.

Erick is a shortstop

What kind of clutch do you want?

He covers the hole on the left side of the diamond from behind third to behind second, and gets to plays that Wells should be making easily.

Errors don’t faze him, if that is your problem. Aybar isn’t scared of statistics, and is not afraid to put leather on the ball in any part of the field.

He bats in the bottom of the order, so high average is not his forte, and is a disaster against right-handers. But his defensive skills are second to none, and improving all the time.

I say sign him to a 3 year contract with a team option for an extra year.

You should watch 2009 ALDS sometime
I think this isn't a smoke screen

Pujols was expensive, as was CJ.

Arte probably is not super excited about spending a whole lot more money anytime soon.

Especially on ANY Scott Boras client.

(Madson)

get rid of Howard's? NEVAHHH

oh Howie….yeah, we need to keep him too

I like the Admiral, but LOVE HK47.

If it were to come down to one or the other, extend Howie. We can groom Segura to be the new shortstop for 2013; if he isn’t ready, re-sign Maicer to a one-year stopgap deal while Segura seasons in AAA throughout 2013.
