AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF fielding emails to the tune of "BRO WTF, LOLBAH" (The acronym for LOL Boners are Hilarious!) due to obvious ridiculousness with the voting system in this whole thing I believe we have solved this issue. The artillery has been called in. Enough is enough. You shall not pass. I got an email from Rev two nights ago saying a simple phrase that changed everything, making all matchups from here on out (sorry to those who got hosed already) legitimate. The email basically said this:
i am breaking out the heavy artillery - i just asked scottnak if he could get involved
And then everything was more beautiful. The sky was more blue, I lost 10 pounds, my protein shake tasted like liquid muffins, my 15 year old Golden Retriever turned back into a week old puppy, Boston fell into the ocean, I won the lottery, and most importantly.....Votebot's mighty reign finally came to an end.
Now, I do not know what the actual realistic, feasible chance there is to make this happen but I think its worth a look. If somehow, someway we could get THIS PICTURE onto a billboard somewhere near Arlington Stadium in Texas with our blog name inserted, even if its for a week around opening day, then we win forever. Think about it. This could spawn an entire new offseason discussion on what should be on the billboard and where it should be located. Im waiting for some more info and Ill keep you posted. I honestly cannot think of a better way to start the season.
I would be willing to road trip it out to the arm pit that is Arlington to take picture next to a billboard featuring a naked asian man. Hrmm, I just realized I may never type that last phrase ever again without as much meaning. These truly are the times of our lives. Its like the movie Cowboys vs Aliens except the Aliens are feminine guys and they are not fighting but making out and Olivia Wilde does not (spoiler alert) die at the end. Harrison Ford as a bad guy totally does not work for me, by the way. The Actor Formerly Known as Han Solo is so acutely ingrained in my mind as the "Badass With a Heart of Gold Protagonist/Supplemental Protagonist" that any other role feels as wrong as using your left hand for some alone-at-night-cardio. If you know what I mean. *wink*. (Im talking about masturbation) (LOLBAH)

I've known kids that were home schooled that were pretty sharp,
and kids that were just playing weird.
I would agree the socialization public schools provide is important to growth of a child as they enter the world.
Nevertheless, I don’t think this should come at the cost of being warehoused with a bunch of kids that don’t care or who are injurious to the learning climate of other children. All within the context of a school system that spends more time trying to spend its budgets on time or teachers that only seem to get excited about teaching when their unions are threatened or when the private school voucher dialogue starts gaining traction.

for social grooming.
Home school kids are often off because they do not go through the social gauntlet that is Grades 1-8.
I know a few home schooled kids and since their parents often just let them do whatever they hang on to strange things like loving Power Rangers for far too long, or wearing light up shoes with light green sweat pants and thinking their mom is the end all be all of everything.
If you are not around peers that challenge you in some way you are often left with a soft, adverse to risk/challenge, spoiled strange kid who has to be a “late bloomer”.
Sure this is a generalization and yes Im sure there are some home schooled kids who came out just fine. This is what Ive personally observed is the problem with homeschooling. Its not the quality of education, its the lack of social environment.

I went to public school but I had neighbors like that- the creepy sweat pants obsession and socks/ sandals combo were requirements for admission to their “home school” I think. But, I live next to a family that home schools now and their kids are fine, normal kids.
I think it has to do more than anything with who is influencing them than being around other kids

But, while I was teaching, the home schooling parents I knew were closer to what ItCouldHappen described. Of course, they all wanted what was best for their kids, but the God Complex seemed to rear its ugly head quite a bit.
Granted, all of this is anecdotal evidence and I should probably just shut my mouth.

I went to public school.
I can’t really say it socialized me in a good way. I can say that it probably turned out more dense potato heads than home schooling does. I mean, just look at California graduates. Has Bangladesh passed us on the quality of education list yet? On the other hand I did learn a lot about self esteem, forging school docs, how to throw a spiral, and how to put a condom on a banana.
Though it beat Catholic school. That was a wealthy gladiator academy…. and a big bag of stupid to boot.
I’m just betting if this site had a pile of home school kids on it they’d be bagging on all the can’t talk, can’t spell, can’t add, can’t stop getting pregnant kids in public schools.

I'm reading the second half of The Pearl on my ride home tonight.
It was sparked, of course, by our big HH music/TV show/player/book lovefest a few weeks ago. On this read, the book feels different than it did when I first read it, maybe 15 years ago. Forgot how much I love Steinbeck.

(Audience laughs mightily at the mention of a specific computer brand, all audience members sit up on their seats in anticipation of the amazing joke coming)
Generic Nerd 1: “Oh, I was just GOOGLING something”
(Audience bursts into tears laughing so hard. The actors have to delay their next lines to wait for the gregarious laughter to settle)
Hot Chick: “Oh you! Anyway I was wondering if you could help me with something?”
(Audience gasps and embrace the person next to them, expecting something so funny it literally will propel them out of their seats and into space)
Generic Nerd 1: “Like Superman helping Louis Lane? Or like how Steve Jobs revolutionized computers by making everything super simple and helping out people like you who dont know about Aleinware Laptops, made by Dell Computer Company”
(Audience is overwhelmed with commonly known slightly-nerdy references. The grasp on the person next to them tightens, embracing for what can only be the best punchline in the history of spoken word)
Generic Nerd 2 (Shouting from off camera) : “LINUX IS BETTER”
(Audience simultainiously pukes muffins, rainbows explode out of their eyes, the embraces turn into bear hugs of Zangiefian proportions making everyone hold each other too tight and the entire audience explodes into kittens that shower the actors as they receive a 50 year extension for the show and every award imaginable.)
This is basically every episode of this show. Absolutely horrible jokes and way way way way way way way overreacting laughtrack/live audience

I am also hesitant to defend it. It’s not amazing, but it’s far from the worse thing out there. I had never watched it until it recently got syndicated, and it kinda grew on me. I’ll fight you.
