Roid Sox Reliever Dustin Richardson tested positive for FIVE banned substances. Guess once Bahstin traded him the ability to mask the juice was tougher.

Saturday is the 30th anniversary of one of the great trades in Angels history. NEWSPAPER COVERAGE FROM BACK IN THE DAY. The Orioles made room for a young Cal Ripken Jr. by trading Doug DeCinces and a scrub pitcher to the Angels for Dan Ford. DeCinces went on to accrue 18 WAR in 5 seasons including a monster 7.4 n 1982 for the AL West division winners. Although Baltimore won the World Series with Ford in 1983, he accrued a total of 0.2 WAR for the birds. The sting of the lopsided trade is historically ameliorated by that championship and the tenure of Cal Ripken Jr. But still... 18 > 0.2 ...Wow just Wow.

Slow News Day, two articles...

A very long but detailed and amazing article destroying the credibility of PSA baseball memorabilia authentication. Absolute scum working out there.

Tests on Dustin Richardson Found 5 Banned Substances. Dustin Richardson, a former Chowd reliever, was suspended this week for 50 games after a random drug test came up positive for FIVE performance-enhancing drugs.

Just because this has been up for like an hour now....

#ffffffffirrrrrst

Nothing else to do at 9:30 at night one as many beers in as Dusty got caught with.

Slow news day, eh?

The 5 Authorized Performance-Enhancing Substances of the Boston Red Sox:

1) Beer
2) KFC Extra Crispy Chicken
3) Chowdah (obviously)
4) Ink for crappy Irish-themed tattoos
5) Shame (either Baltimore or Tampa Bay flavored)

I thought cod was authorized too?
Has it been confirmed that it was KFC?

If so, that’s pretty low rent for guys making millions a year.

This is Boston we're talking about
I heard it was Popeyes
That's much better. And classier.
only the best horse food will do in Boston
Popeye's spicy.... AWESOME.
Love the red beans and rice
The real question is what type of beer....

Keystone light? Natty Light? Natty ICE?. Its amazing how much Boston and the Red Sox have changed my taste in beers. While I do love the micros out here, I have gotten to the point that I cannot drink Boston Lager without feeling like I am destroying a part of my identity.

If I were a ball player

I would start taking the drug testing thing seriously. It seems like they are catching people often enough that it should be an effective deterrent.

But I’d like to know more about how “random” it is. Do they ever test any Skankees or Chawds? I mean, Manny wasn’t on the Mitchell report at all, right? Then he gets caught not once, but TWICE, after he leaves the Sux.

That was some of the worst writing I've ever read in the NYT

It makes me appreciate that we have guys like Sam Miller around.

They should stick to their wheelhouse,

left-wing hit pieces on conservatives.

Their entertainment section is even more famous for hating every movie ever
Ha. Well to be honest, it's not hard to hate everything that comes out of hollywood lately.

I fashion myself as somewhat of a movie critique and I think the last good movie I saw came out a few years ago.

Lately I’ve resorted to seeking out foreign films. They also help me act smug while having a glass of red wine at the Salt House in San Francisco.

Don't forget about forging sources.
yeah and yet TMZ gets all the hate

National Enquirer has higher standards than NYT …fact.

I believe you 100%

National Enquirer has broken a ton of stories.

Speaking of writing...

Just got my MFA diploma in the mail today. I’m stoked.

Congrats
Thanks, Jeff.

I’m going to write up my “Why I became a fan of the Halos” post soon.

If I got tested today I'd break the machine.
DeCinces was one heck of a first baseman

In like 10 days he had 2 3 homer games

He was a 3rd baseman
Thats how good a first baseman he was

playing that far out of position.

I'd rec this if my phone would let me
I don't know how I wrote that.

Of course he was a third baseman. A darn good one. Must be that there are just too many first basemen floating around right now. I blame spell check.

Having some serious problems posting a story at the moment.

Super frustrating.

The list of banned substances is so ridiculous. Half the stuff I take for lifting is banned like 23 times over.

Wasn't there some work done recently on the site? That could have something to do with it.

Let support know about it the bugs if possible.

Site was major leage wonky today.

Including several variations of “404: All your base belong to Vox Media” messages.

Anyone read the other stories in the DeCinces article?

And that Harmon Killebrew’s son was arrested for bank robbery. What’s up with that?

Who knew they were capable of such greatness

Doug DeCinces was underrated as a player

and is a nice guy.

My Dad won some auction where the prize was a round of golf and lunch with Doug DeCinces at Strawberry Farms and then a game at Angel Stadium. He took me along. This was 2009.

Doug was very cool and indulged me by talking about everything Angels. We talked about ’86, Reggie, Gene Mauch (daggers for the Little General), his friendship with Grich, how Troy Glaus asked to marry his daughter and he said no, and also some hilarious stories about his days in Baltimore playing for Earl Weaver. I totally geeked out the whole day and Doug was very gracious and generous throughout.

Being a 3rd baseman, I asked him his opinion on Brandon Wood. Quote: “He’s got no fire. He acts like he’s too cool for school. He doesn’t act like he really wants it. He’s hasn’t shown me anything.” At the time I thought Wood was headed for greatness and was a little disheartened by Doug’s assessment. Truth hurts.

He also tried to psych me out by talking some subtle smack on the golf course, as our match was close. It worked. He ended up beating me by a couple strokes. He did have home course advantage. No excuses though.

It was a good day. Just me, Pops, and Doug DeCinces……and some sales rep who knows my Dad who set the whole thing up.
