Just watched his 20K performance again. Eerie similarities between his game and Ervin’s no-hitter performance. Both came down to a scorer’s discretion.
Lost in that awesome performance of Wood’s back in 98, was that he yielded no walks and it was barely a 1-hitter. If the scorer ruled differently, that 20K game would have been even more spectacular as a no-no.
Then it seemed all downhill for the kid after that.
His peripherals are declining horribly, and he’s likely to be way overpaid. Same story with Lidge (that BB/9 of his is really ugly). Kerry Wood seems like a solid addition; like others have said, he could serve as a veteran mentor/setup man type.
I have Wood.

Wood is the new boner?

One-year deal
This would’ve made sense for us.
Sethy - January 10, 2012
But at over ten million, according to MLBTradeRumors.com
Given our recent monetary plunges, and more importantly, the fact he’s a relief pitcher, I’m thinking it probably wouldn’t have been worth it for us.
nicolasville - January 10, 2012
At 10MM+
No way. That’s something I couldn’t see the Angels doing.
Wonder what the market for Cordero looks like now?
Still liking Kerry Wood for the last (cheap) bullpen addition.
blast21dave - January 10, 2012
Ya, I'm liking the Wood idea more and more.
Besides, the last name Wood has to be redeemed in Angels lore.
~MMP~ - January 10, 2012
By replacing one
flameout with another?
blast21dave - January 10, 2012
Kerry actually had some success in the majors, though.
5thStarter - January 11, 2012
Way more than 3Wood for sure

I remember reading somewhere
That Kerry Wood is actually the name of Brandon Wood’s dad. Weird coincidence or what?
nicolasville - January 10, 2012
Cordero, hails no

I wasn't suggesting
that the Angels should sign Cordero.
I’m hoping JeDi makes a run at Wood while most eyes are turned to Cordero to see where he will sign.
blast21dave - January 10, 2012
I would have liked Madson on a 1 year deal(although it is a 10+ million dollar 1 year deal)
But at the same time, I can’t get too upset over it considering everything the Angels have done this offseason.
~MMP~ - January 10, 2012
I hope this means we make a move at Wood
ItCouldHappen - January 10, 2012
As long as it ain't the Rangers!
Sounds okay.

NOTICE
i have just flagged every post with the mention of Wood in it
becasue your all crazy

Now THIS, class,
is an example of irony
Moondoggy - January 11, 2012
One source says its for $10 million and another one has it for $8.5 million
Frank158369 - January 10, 2012
Law of averages.
$9.25 million.
Done and done.
Chzburger Jones - January 11, 2012
Good signing for the Reds
Would have loved to see the Angels get him but I doubt another 8.5 million was in the budget.
LAA of A Fan - January 11, 2012
Nor should it have been in the budget.
8.5 million is WAY too much for a reliever.

Boras really f***** this up for his client
2pintsofbooze - January 11, 2012
Yeah, if the 4/44 rumors are anywhere close to being true...
Boras really screwed the pooch. And, by “the pooch”, I mean Ryan Madson.
5thStarter - January 11, 2012
I wonder if this screwing will effect the Fielder situation
ItCouldHappen - January 11, 2012
I was wondering that, too.
I doubt it, but perhaps Prince feels a bit more urgency now?
5thStarter - January 11, 2012
on the fielder to dodgers fanshot I added some more links
To further cloud the skies and indicate that it probably did not effect the Boras process
ItCouldHappen - January 11, 2012
Thanks for the links.
I love how close together in time, yet far apart in content, they are.
