Final Score in Anaheim: Indians 6, Angels 1

The last remaining Angel from the 2002 World Champions walked off the field with a 3-2 count, a sore throwing arm and the last remnants of an era on his shoulders. Scot Shields looked in pain in the 6th inning of Tuesday's blowout loss to the Cleveland Indians and could not convince Mike Scioscia otherwise.
If it was the final appearance of a 2002 Angel in an Angels uniform, it came in front of the hometown crowd and ended under protest. Ever the gamer, Shields pleaded to stay in.
During the game, the Angels announced they were releasing longtime utility infielder Robb Quinlan, who with Shields was the final Angel on the roster from the 2003 Angels squad, an injured group of underachievers about as miserable as this one.
Besides the Shields injury, which is more sentimental than anything else as he has been utterly timid and unproductive on the mound for three years and counting, here are some other lowlights:
Ugly game, ugly season, end of an era, perhaps tomorrow's late afternoon start features an Angel debut or two.

Thanks Scotty
You’ll always be one of my favorite Angels.

The Angels are now 0-1 in the Post-Quinlan Era

2011 Angels
I’m just disgusted every night I watch this team. My told me the other day we should stop watching the games, we are wasting 15 hrs a week, she has a good point.
Its one thing to lose, but they way they are losing makes me sick. Every night they make an error, screw up on the bases, walk too many batters, and struggle to hit with runners on base.
It’s time to blow it up. Next yr this should be our lineup, give up on some of the aging veterans and give the kids a chance to play.
C- Conger
1B-Morales
2B-HK
SS-Aybar
3B- Callaspo
LF-Bobby
CF- Bourjos
RF-Hunter
DH-Trumbo
We also need to make sure guys like Walden, Kohn, and Thompson are in the pen. Let these guys take there lumps, I’m willing to suck one more season as long as we are letting the kids play and seeing what we have. These guys have all proven they can play at AAA, play them or trade them.
The Blake Griffin Era - September 7, 2010
Well, at least you get to spend your time more productively in a couple months
by watching Clippers basketball.
clover_black - September 7, 2010
For the first time in my life
I am actually looking fwd to the clipper season. I can’t wait.
The Blake Griffin Era - September 7, 2010
Yeah, that LeBron D-Wade Bosch signing was big for them.

Shields
thanks for all the memories, a solid angel, but it’s time to move on.
The Blake Griffin Era - September 7, 2010
he'll post a sub 2 era next year
but it won’t be for the Angels.
Whoever we sign to replace his spot, will be the second coming of Esteban Speier

Shields will be back...
folks are jumping to conclusions …
Downing Rules - September 7, 2010
Thanks for the memories,
Scott, you are a class act and you will be missed. Take care and good luck in your future endeavors. Same to you, Robby, thanks for being an Angel.
TSamn15 - September 7, 2010
+1
Sorry to see them both go . . .
Q for the humor value;
Scot for the epic Angel of yore value.
And they were definitely both great guys.
Raaddad - September 7, 2010
Hey Raaddad,
How have you been brotha? Haven’t seen you post for a while.
halofolife - September 8, 2010
Greetings
Yea, I’m trying to make time again now that I’ve gotten back from a long road trip to the northern mountain areas. I have been reading the posts but I miss communicating with y’ou all. Was very depressed about many things including the Halo’s plummet into the baseball Waste Land, and now Son of Raaddad broke his foot during soccer practice joining me on the injured list as it were, poor fellow. Unfortunately I still get to coach the team now without my son and top scorer playing. Sort of like the Kendry Morales injury…
Anyway, we all have our problems don’t we? How are you? Seen any more games live?
Raaddad - September 8, 2010
MOTA: "Tomlin has been having problems with the longball..."
That means NO HOMERUNS for the Halos tomorrow.
Downing Rules - September 7, 2010
haha
you have turned to the dark side, and i enjoy it
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 7, 2010
This team has given up.
And our manager is signed through 2018?
Is this a good thing if the players no longer listen?
bc56274 - September 7, 2010
oh for God's sake!
Mike Scioscia is one of the best managers in the game. You can’t win every year. NO manager would have gotten this team to win this year. There are at least 25 other teams in the MLB that would kill to have Scioscia.
firebird81 - September 8, 2010
Sometimes you gotta crank up the Toto
It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
In honor of Scioscia losing his pet Robbie Q.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 7, 2010
hauntingly beautiful.
i shed a tear.
clover_black - September 7, 2010
You're a freak.
44FAN - September 8, 2010
Thanks, Shields
One of the top 3 or 4 relievers in Angels history. Wherever you end up after this season, God bless, Scotty. I’ll never forget taking pictures with you at spring training a few years ago. You are a class act.
Gorbachav5 - September 7, 2010
Has Shields been hurting the whole time?
His velocity has been down only slightly, but his slider has gone absolutely flat. I mean, it almost literally does not move in any direction other than forward. I’m not an expert, but I think developing elbow problems make it harder to get a good “snap” on a breaking ball.
If it’s true, I’m not sure whether or not to commend the dumb jock mentality. It doesn’t really matter though. He’s carried more than his fair share of the load over the years. Good night, Scot Shields, may flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest…
Suboptimal - September 8, 2010
I applauded Scot Shields ever step of the way to the dugout
Tonight may have been the end of an era—the last performance by a member of the 2002 World Champion Anaheim Angels with continuous service 2002 to the present. I am disqualifying a possible sign ’em up for one day and then retire former 2002 Angel. Dang, those eight years went fast. Thanks for the memories Scot!
Yetijuice - September 8, 2010
Now if we could maybe just
end the soth era also we could be back on track.
LeeUnitxxx - September 8, 2010
FAIL
Troll
jjackflash - September 8, 2010
Yeah.
We should get rid of the most successful skipper in Halo history. Maybe we can hire Joe Torre. Perhaps Terry Collins can be talked out of retirement. Scioscia gets a pass for this bad season. If we suck 2 or 3 years from now, then i’ll worry.
halofolife - September 8, 2010
Or worse
We could hire Dusty Baker & his toothpick
Quad Fin Rider - September 8, 2010 via mobile
What I don't understand about Scot Shields is
he still thinks he has it . He lost it about four years ago somehow doesn’t realize it .
Ed@northridge - September 8, 2010
There's no point in blaming players anymore.
Everyone is BOTG each night we play this terrible.
Looking forward to next season for sure.
RexTookMyStash - September 8, 2010
agree.
booing them will do no good.
if there is a BOTG – just put “team” cause everyone is to blame for what is happening.
angelsfan7 - September 8, 2010
Yeah, talk about a conglomeration of slumps.
Worst part is Texas is fading pretty bad. If we would have won some of those close games and not have been swept by the Orioles twice we’d seriously be out of 1st by 5-6 games, which sounds a lot better than 9.5 out. Aye yay yay.
Some to also be stoked about is seeing some of our Triple-A guys get some play time.
I’m optimistic even more so after watching Bourjos.
RexTookMyStash - September 8, 2010
he is still on the team
?????
DAD OF VLAD - September 8, 2010
Tuesday's game
was the most depressing game I can remember being at for a long long time. It was so quiet in that stadium you could hear the ball hit the ground when they were throwing it to each other. They said the attendance was at 38,000+ but no way there were that many people there. The players didn’t even look like they wanted to be there from the moment they took the field. I invited people who don’t get to go very often and even they were wondering what was up. I just said this is how it’s been for months now.
I LOVE the Angels but WOW that was such a depressing atmosphere to be at last night.
All I can say is Angels – you need to at least play the game you were hired to play. If nothing else can you just play for US the fans who have paid good money to watch. Please at least show up ready to play.
I’m still a fan – and always will be a fan – but wow, please just show up and make us think you want to play at least.
angelsfan7 - September 8, 2010
I said the same thing Tuesday Night
That the pen doesn’t give a shit.
See this comment.
red floyd - September 8, 2010

firebird81 - September 8, 2010
I'll be there Friday Saturday and Sunday...
my voice is ready to BOO like hell. Can’t wait to have my say.
