Final in Arlington: Angels 2, Rangers 3
The last thing you expect to see when Scott Kazmir takes the mound this season is a pitcher's duel, but that's what happened in Arlington as Kazmir faced-off against the Ranger savior Cliff Lee with the Angels coming up short 3-2. Okay, pitcher's duel might be a little strong...how about a close game? Kazmir was able to keep the Angels close, giving up two run on 6 hits over 5.1 innings.
Keeping it close was good enough for Peter Bourjos, who provided all of the Angel offense. Bourjos doubled in the 6th and scored on a Bobby Abreu sac-fly, and then he teed-off on Ranger reliever Darren O'Day for a long home run in the 8th. It was Bourjos' 5th home run of the season, and for a short time tied the game.
And the game should have stayed tied after Nelson Cruz doubled with one out in the bottom half of the 8th off of Jordan Walden. Although Cruz wandered too far off of second, he managed to get back to the bag when Howie Kendrick threw to 3rd. Cruz then easily stole 3rd and scored what would be the winning run on a Vlad Guerrero single.

What can be said about tonights game?
Bourjos was great. Both in the field and at the plate. Other than that we totally sucked.

OT
Not sure if anyone mentioned this in the GT, but the M’s shut down Felix for the rest of the season, meaning Weaver will most likely be the K King. LINK
stuck in Romania - September 30, 2010
Do you win anything for being the K king?
RexTookMyStash - September 30, 2010
more money in Arbitration????

true, also unreasonable expectations the following year.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - September 30, 2010
I'm sorry I asked.
You guys are acting like we didn’t make the playoffs or something.
RexTookMyStash - September 30, 2010
We didn't???
I thought this was hockey where practically every team makes the playoffs.
RedHatHalo - October 1, 2010
Its cool. Who was Cool. Nolan Ryan was cool.
Nobody gave a shit about his walks. He was the King of Strikeouts.
Wally's World - October 1, 2010
As much as I think it's awesome that WTY will be the K king
Felix not getting it means the Cy Young will go to that lardass from the MFY.
red floyd - September 30, 2010
Why wouldn't Price get it over CC? I don't get it?
stuck in Romania - September 30, 2010
Hello??? CC is plays for the MFY. That means he is the BEST EVAH!!!
red floyd - October 1, 2010
But does CC do jump throws?

BOTG is Soth
After Cruz took 3rd on the SB, Vlad should have been walked to set up the double play.
Yes, Vlad had 2 strikes on him already and who knows how the batter after Vlad would have done in that 1st and 3rd scenario.
blast21dave - September 30, 2010
Kinsler isn't exactly the easiest guy to double up, but I agree
Not sure if that’s enough to give him BOTG though
~MMP~ - September 30, 2010
Judging by how they were pitching to Vlad though, I wonder if it was an unintentional intentional walk situation
~MMP~ - September 30, 2010
I caught the 8th inning on radio
and the 9th on TV (was driving home) so I have no visual of how they pitched Vlad. I’d imagine they wanted the strikeout but just put Vlad on and carefully pitch Kinsler if he walks then you are pitching to their number 6 guy in the batting order with a force option at every base.
blast21dave - September 30, 2010
Ya, even if it was an unintentional intentional walk, I think it was dangerous to not IBB Vlad there.
Bengie was hitting after Kinsler too, who especially against Walden(who is good at getting GBs) is a good bet to hit it on the ground.
I

I thought the book on Vlad now is to throw him fastballs which he hopefully cannnot catch.
From what I thought I saw, Walden was throwing almost nothing but sliders.
I remember a couple of years back, Vlad said, “I like sliders”.
I could only assume that Scioscia/Butcher were purposely giving Walden some practice throwing sliders.
wumbug - October 1, 2010
Yep, Walden threw 4 sliders in that AB.
The sequence was
Low slider for a swinging strike
Low slider for a swinging strike
Slider in the dirt that Vlad laid off of
High fastball that was fouled off
And then the slider that Vlad took into LF.
~MMP~ - October 1, 2010
I think Soth is mailing it in.

Still can't believe Aybar swung at a pitch that hit him in the balls
Could there possibly be a more poetic statement of why this team’s offense sucks?
Suboptimal - September 30, 2010
This will forever describe his lack of plate discipline.
Aybar is so undisciplined, he’d swing and miss at a pitch aimed at his nuts.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - September 30, 2010
I wish I could have this. I was only watching on gamecast.
RexTookMyStash - September 30, 2010
Here you go...
not very good, but you get the point…

Wow, and they're doing the wave in the background.

This video should be the theme of our season.

Sosh is laughing, then it shows the Rangers’ dugout.

He's laughing until he realizes he's on camera
and then gets all serious and tries to cover it by coughing.

Downing Rules - October 1, 2010
It's also a perfect metaphor for the season...
…a swing and a miss with a punch to the nuts for emphasis. Just so we don’t forget. Just so we can’t forget.
There are a few members of this organization that should be taking a good look at their themselves during the off-season, just as Ow-Bar is checking his package tonight.
sothball - September 30, 2010
Ow-Bar, not as healthy as a Clif-Bar, but with twice as much nuts.
RexTookMyStash - September 30, 2010
"Clif-Bar" will likelt be renamed "Payday" this off-season...
…you know how many nuts are in a Payday?
sothball - September 30, 2010
as many as it takes?
RexTookMyStash - September 30, 2010
Millions!!!!
And no Snickering…
sothball - September 30, 2010
Holy shit, I heard it on radio, but had no idea it hit him in the balls!!! They just said that players in both dugouts were laughing!

Has anyone see the tenth inning yet on PBS
God damn i miss 2002
made me cry again
DAD OF VLAD - September 30, 2010
I haven' seen it but it looks awesome.
I’m going to order the DVD.
RexTookMyStash - September 30, 2010
It was okay, it never hurts to go back and look at history.
It put the whole steroid era in one capsule that was easy to swallow for those who didn’t want to believe it, or care about it. Burns did a good job of setting up the chronological order of the steroid and condensed it down to manageable overview of the whole scandal. My only criticism was the positive light it portrayed Bud Selig in instead of the bumbling idiot he really is.
The stories behind each of the World Series was done very well.
44FAN - September 30, 2010
I thought Selig was not as stupid as i thought
and Fehr is always a bastard for letting Sterods get so bad
DAD OF VLAD - September 30, 2010
I'm going to write up my thoughts about it for an article
Some of the old footage is fun, but it’s nothing but processed nostalgia. Oh, and the Angels didn’t win the 2002 World Series. Barry Bonds lost it.
Suboptimal - September 30, 2010
Burns is yellow wallpaper. That's his gig..
Criticizing him on tone and style is a little like calling a fried egg too fried. They’ve named sepia slideshow video effects after him. You either accept him within his vernacular or you’re like a hotel occupant complaining about the smell of disinfectant.
I’m sure you’ll find an original angle beyond the obvious complaint of dewy-eyed nostalgia.
Turks Teeth - September 30, 2010 via mobile
huh?
Wow, you write the whole gamut.
Wally's World - October 1, 2010
Barry Bonds lost the Series?!?!
Not to be argumentative but WHAT?!? Barry hit .371 with 4 HRs! He was eliminated by the 13 walks. That and the Angels did what it takes in the post season, timely hitting (see Game 6). I thought the Tenth Inning was well done and even though the Angels WS victory was coat tailed on the Barry story, I was happy to see the Halos appear (always love watching Ersty squeeze that fly ball).
The Land of Happy Trees - October 1, 2010
I think he meant that the focus of the story was on the fact that Barry DID NOT WIN...
instead of the fact that the Angels AS A TEAM DID WIN. Barroid was unreal in that series. Superhuman. The image of Barry from 2002 I will always remember is the solitary figure sitting in the dugout watching the Angels celebrate with his flashy earring reflecting some light at the camera.

norcaliangelsfan - September 30, 2010
I'll feel better when he starts hitting in the 250's or so , and his K?BB lessens from 6:1. Not so good.
Wally's World - October 1, 2010
They just showed the Angels rookies in their hazing outfits on KTLA5 news.
The had Conger wearing a Ninja Turtles costume and the rest of the guys had on short little dresses. Walden had seriously ugly legs. Too bad, no video that I could find on the KTLA website.
44FAN - September 30, 2010
It's funny how gay some of the shit they do is, like all that assslappin', and dressing them up in dresses. I'm just glad they didn't use bikinis. That shit is funny.
