Angels Beat CB Bucknor

Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 6, A's 5

This was a weird game, and it took forever to play. Both teams combined for 35 base runners, and it seemed like the bases were left loaded at the end of every inning. The officiating was an official disaster, probably because the guy who is consistently voted the worst umpire in baseball by a very large margin (that would be CB Bucknor) was in charge. This one had it all. Ad hoc interpretations of obscure rules, a balk, another three-base misplay by an Angels outfielder, variable strike zone, and just good old-fashioned blown calls.

Somehow the Angels were left standing when the dust settled. Oakland jumped out 3-0 on Ervin Santana in the second inning, but the Angels quickly tied it with 3 runs off of Brett Anderson. The A's took a 4-3 lead in the 4th which they ultimately surrendered in a wild 7th inning. With two out and two-on, Hideki Matsui tied the game with a pinch-hit single. Maicer Izturis drew a walk, and then Erick Aybar's jersey saved the game when it got ruffled by an inside pitch from Justin James, bailing him out of an 0-2 count. This forced in a run, and Hank Conger forced in another on a four-pitch walk to make it 6-4. The A's cut it to 6-5 after Torii Hunter turned the third out in the 8th into an RBI triple, and even though Fernando Rodney tried really, really hard to blow the game in the ninth, the A's meager offense couldn't be bothered to bring in the tying run from third.

I can't tell whether the end result of the poor officiating favored the Angels or not. For instance, CB Bucknor called Mike Napoli safe when he clearly was not. But this myopic clown clearly draws attention to himself at the expense of the game on the field, so I must say that even if the true winner was unclear, CB Bucknor was the clear loser.

I was sitting 400 feet away and could tell that Bucknor's strike zone was wacky...

WTF already. That guy needs to be sacked.

Torii for panther. He’s amazing.

I was over by first base and that was just insane how big a part of the game that guy was

From the batters interference and the 5 minute pow wow to the multiple blow calls, maybe they can send that idiot to winterball with Wood to work on how to make calls.

I was sitting in the 400's behind homeplate...

Those calls were insane. It started in the 1st and continued through the top of the 9th. Who taught him how to be an ump?

Any new updates

regarding Pre-Game Picks?

DOV bet 6 points that Santana would last til the 4,000th inning
This never gets old.
Truth never gets old
Erf.

So my call is that Rev made a typo and meant to say Top of 6th. Rev made this particular set of questions well in advance so, it’s likely he may have forgotten that it’s a home game.

Today’s picks should say Top i believe.

Thanks Scott!

Haven’t seen a PGP update in awhile so I was getting concerned :/

Sick And Tired of the Negativity of This Blog

Don’t any of you fans remember the suicide of Donnie Moore after he was constantly being booed while out on the mound? I know he was having personal problems at the time, but I think the booing played a part too. And to say that Mr. Rodney was not trying to get the save is ludicrous on it’s face. This team has a chance to get to five hundred and we should support their efforts. The Dodgers have had a disappointing season too but their blog is not nearly as negative as this one. Fernando Rodney has my support.. You try saving a game—it isn’t easy and I congratulate him on his success in this one.

Negativity or sarcasm?
…and even though Fernando Rodney tried really, really hard to blow the game in the ninth, the A’s meager offense couldn’t be bothered to bring in the tying run from third.

Looks like sarcasm to me. And well earned, since he has blown 3-4 save opportunities in the last 2 weeks.

Hey! Tony Dungy!

I didn’t you was a Halos fan! Welcome to Halos Heaven!

PS: learn to take a joke. These post game right ups are intended for our entertainment and the authors do a good job. Its actually part of what’s kept me really interested in this abomination of a season. See ya next sunday night!

"write ups"...
OMG...I can't boo players for fear of them committing suicide...

I’ll golf clap the next time Rodney blows a save.

Try being a Red Sox fan if you want to see brutality. I’m trying to be an intense fan of the Angels, in spite of your efforts to make me be a seated drone.

Did you know that I gave all sorts of hell to the A’s reliever James last night? I feel my heckling efforts went a long way in leading him to blow the game for the A’s. One specific comment I recall: “HEY JESSE! WHY’D YOU DO THAT TO POOR SANDRA BULLOCK?” Idiotic stuff, I know, but it had him laughing and people around me laughing. He lost focus, I’d like to think I had a hand in that. I also chided Pedro Martinez from above the Boston dugout the night Vladdy got 9 RBI’s against the Red Sox in 2004. You’re welcome. Intensity. It’s welcome at the ballpark. Sitting on your hands? GO HOME AND WATCH.

Is it possible to put this on podcast and post it on HH?

I would be entertained.

You are my hero

I can’t even come up with idiotic junk to say at these players at times

Great stuff!

But I’m not sure I’d want to sit by you at the game.

Bring earplugs and we'll rock the house.
Nice...

My friends and I gave Gerald “Buster” Posey a pretty hard time at one of his last AAA games here in Co Springs. Had a lot of people laughing… Unfortunately he ignored us and had a great game. Their 3rd baseman wasn’t as fortunate and even dropped a ball as we yelled at him.
