The walk-off error thing is becoming a habit. This time it was Brandon Wood throwing the ball away with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning. He fielded a chopper up the middle from Willy Aybar and could have walked the ball over to first base, but he was in such a hurry to see the post-game Adam Lambert concert that he rifled it into the dugout instead. So Brandon Wood giveth and Brandon Wood taketh away. After supplying the game-winning home run last night, he provided the game-ending screw-up tonight.
If it sounds familiar, it's because pretty much the same thing happened on Thursday, except with Alberto Callaspo as the offending party. Fernando Rodney didn't have a chance to blow a save in that one, but he did in this one, and he capitalized on that chance by, in fact, blowing the save. I'm starting to lose track with all these extra inning games resulting from Fraudney's regression to the mean.
Juan Rivera provided the Angels' offense for the night, hitting a three-run homer off David Price in the seventh inning. Joel Pineiro was limited to 81 pitches in his first start off the DL, and he pitched capably for six innings, the only blemish coming on a two-run liner over the right-field wall off the bat of Reid Brignac. Jordan Walden continued his incredible run of freakish strikeout-groundball out-making awesomeness, and Kevin Jepsen didn't even walk anyone. Bobby Cassevah took the loss again, just the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time twice in the same week. Yup, this one's pretty much on you, Weird Beard.

Silver Lining
Pineiro will eb the best #5 starter in baseball next year. Hope we manage to find a #4 but, hey… baby steps…

My sister's husband in NY just texted me
“Angels are the King of Suck”
What’d he mean?
pam s - September 18, 2010
Your brother-in-law meant to say that he is the undisputed King of the Glory Hole in NY
and that he’d fancy a little action next time the team is in the Big Apple. He goes by the name of Sea Bass.
PieceOfAase - September 19, 2010
I saw... I know.

Fraudney gets the award,
But Mathis is a close second for mastering the art of hitless games played. In fact, I’m sure he has the major league record for most games played without a hit (if anyone cares to run the numbers). Certainly, the most 0 for 4 games. It’s about time we modify that “premium” description to “low-octane regular.”
angelslogic - September 18, 2010
Why not just split the difference
and call him Ethyl?
rspencer - September 18, 2010
I like it.
angelslogic - September 19, 2010
Fraudney.
If he does his $9Million ($11Million… however much) job, and gets three frigging outs, then 3Wood never has the chance to make an error.
Mathis is too premium to get BotG

Ah Brandon Wood and his 1 step forward and 15 steps back dance...
I get that it is easy to hate on Rodney right now (I’ve never been a fan), but quite frankly, if you put Mathis and Rodney next to eachother and ask who has helped the Angels lose more games this season, I think Mathis is the clear boner.
If the only way to get Mathis off this squad was to accept Joe Buck as our new announcer, I do believe I’d jump at the opportunity.
Dontbatvlad4th - September 18, 2010
If we weren't limited to one and I hadn't wasted mine on Derek friggin' Jeter
I’d have given a great big FBOTG to F-Raud. Crap pitching AND fielding. I’m guessing Wood basically just wrote his ticket out of town tonight. Doubt he or anyone here will be too broken up over it.
BigKahunaMan - September 19, 2010
He at least has a ticket to Winter league in Arizona...
so, no, his ticket off the team surely was not punched last night.
Downing Rules - September 19, 2010
Rodney has more blown saves than Fuentes in fewer opportunities
He better not be closing next year
Epic Dean - September 19, 2010
But you forget, Fraudney is NEVER effective in garbage time
and the entire 2010 Halos IS garbage time.
Quad Fin Rider - September 19, 2010
I want Fraudney and Mathis both off the team.
My heart tells me Brandon Wood deserves one final shot.
Chzburger Jones - September 19, 2010
He's working hard to redefine the Mendoza Line already.
daze - September 19, 2010
Fraudney
IF he would just DO his job – would couldn’t have a chance to have that error.
angelsfan7 - September 19, 2010
*wood
caffine hasn’t kicked in yet…. dang.
angelsfan7 - September 19, 2010
So
Should we make a “Walden for Closer” petition?
Slyintine - September 19, 2010
Screw Soth
The Angels are obviously out of the race and so why is either one of Conger or Trumbo not starting every game. Yesterday would have been a perfect time to put Naps at C and have Trumbo at 1B and get Mathis out of the lineup. Also Rodney needs to be a 6th inning guy when we are down by like 3 or 4 runs. The guy is just not that good and Soth uses him as our closer???
I really have no desire to pay money to see this team until Mathis is off of it. The guy is so horrible he just makes me mad every time I see him.
MH252525 - September 19, 2010
Screw Wood and Rodney...
what a PATHETIC showing by those guys. Wood has HOURS to make a solid throw to first; instead he throws off-balance. Aybar was about TEN STEPS from first. Take your time.
Downing Rules - September 19, 2010
Fuentes trade becoming even better
It gives our org the chance to see how pathetic Rodney is in the closer role so we don’t make the mistake next season
ryanfea - September 19, 2010
he was pretty bad in Detroit
it’s just our organization doesn’t know what stats to look at. He had a pretty save % though huh?
MH252525 - September 19, 2010
Yep, but he doesn't even have the pretty save % this year, maybe someone will figure out he's total garbage.
~MMP~ - September 19, 2010
I'd rather see all young, low paid guys in the pen.
Veteran relievers are such a crap shoot. Usually the guy who does good one year for low pay gets a big contract the next and sucks. Every year it’s someone different who does well. Might as well roll the dice with the younger pen and see how it goes.
