Final Score in Florida: Angels 4, Rays 3
Brandon Wood hit a no-doubt solo homerun off of Dan Wheeler in the top of the 9th inning to break a 3-3 tie and help the ESPN dream of the Yankees and Red Sox appearing in the playoffs as the Angels beat the Tampa Bay Rays. While reliever Michael Kohn was the pitcher of record when the HR was hit and got the win, it was Dan Haren's night with 10 striekouts and only 3 hits, the biggest blow being a triple to Carl Crawford that was a catchable flyball misplayed by a waddling Bobby Abreu, who was central to the Angels offense in their two-run third inning, driving in a run and scoring right afterwards.
Fernando Rodney picked up his 11th Save as an Angel.

Brandon Wood hit a go ahead homerun? In the 9th inning?
And I missed it!?
DAMNIT!
halofan4life - September 17, 2010
and the Mike Napoli pounding Wood in the dugout.
44FAN - September 17, 2010
I can't believe they showed that on TV.
cath619 - September 17, 2010

Maybe he was just practicing for the night on the town
“Brandon, your reward is getting to be my wingman tonight!”
The_Question - September 18, 2010
Had to vote for Haren
He didn’t get the W so he needs the Panther vote.
angelsfan7 - September 17, 2010
Good for 3 Wood........
going long distance on the fairway.
norcaliangelsfan - September 17, 2010
We're such a quiet bunch.
Had to vote for Woody because it might not ever happen again.
Happy birthday, Danny!
cath619 - September 17, 2010
Everyone must still be in shock.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - September 17, 2010
imagine how Wheeler feels...!!!
K3YEROUT - September 17, 2010
Well, I'm glad there's going to be a replay,
so I’ll watch the end of the game. My heart is always with Brandon, even when I’ve given up on him as a part of the team
LanaBanana - September 17, 2010
I'm still hoping he finds some "killer" instinct soon...
not thinking him getting married this offseason is going to help that though…hopefully I’m wrong!
K3YEROUT - September 17, 2010
maybe she can help him with his swing.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - September 17, 2010
Agreed 100%.
I have no idea why I care so much whether he succeeds or not, but I’ll always be pulling for him.
cath619 - September 17, 2010
It must have been Blake Wood that hit that homer, not Brandon.
44FAN - September 17, 2010
last homerun he hit was a grand slam
then he got benched.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 17, 2010
Papa Sosh sure does work in mysterious ways.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - September 17, 2010
if that was quinlan
he would have rode that one lucky grand slam to 20 straight starts and a seat on poppa’s lap
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 17, 2010
Haren probably deserves the Panther,
but I voted for Wood. He likely will never have a chance at another Panther again.
Chzburger Jones - September 17, 2010
That was unbelievable
Just how fat a pitch did Wheeler throw?
At least ol’ Brando Wood will have another fond memory to look back upon in the years to come when he recollects one of the two good at-bats he had this season.

From BP... "Scouts' views on various major leaguers:"
K3YEROUT - September 17, 2010
Fern is going to have a very short leash next year, especially if Jordie continues to blow hitters away.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - September 17, 2010
That's the attitude you want your top reliever to have.
And that was what was frustrating about Fuentes – his stuff was mediocre, so he would nibble and flirt with disaster repeatedly.
The_Question - September 18, 2010
"That's pretty arrogant. I like that in a closer"
red floyd - September 18, 2010
so aybar is hurt?
wood or aybar for SS next year….one will be gone, IMHO.

So, does this mean it's time for someone to do another one of those Brandon Wood Transformation threads?

The KING
has a no hitter through 7, and is the new strikeouts leader.
been perfect since he walked the 1st batter of the game.
I expect his next pitch to be a homerun
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 17, 2010

Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 17, 2010

Quinlan's Goofy Swing - September 17, 2010
It always seems like a huge event
Whenever Wood hits a home run.

Fact: Not humanly possible to have a worse season than 2010.

clover_black - September 17, 2010
I think this is true...
… Aybar and Napoli will both be traded this offseason, in my opinion. That is, if they can get equal value for Aybar.
TheHeathen - September 17, 2010 via mobile
Congrats to The Angels!
All said and done, a win is a win, and it’s great to see Haren kickin’ @$$ (hope for 2011).
But is it wrong to admit that I was a SMF?
That is, before the series started, I sorta kinda wished for a Ray’s seep so that they would stay ahead of the spankees.
You see, our season is already lost, and I really do hate the spankees.
I mean, I really really really want to see the Ray’s have home field against the spankees.
Halo Hurricane - September 17, 2010
I also...
really, really want the Angels to get a top ten draft pick next year!!!
angelsownredsux - September 17, 2010
Brandon Wood, our Savior!
Haren for POTG.

Brandon MothaFacking Wood
Angels_48 - September 17, 2010
I watched the game, and Brandon's HR, on TV.
That really was a beautiful swing/hit/HR.
It appeared that the ball was put high in his natural wheelhouse, where he simply reacted without thinking. It looked like batting practice.
wumbug - September 18, 2010
Brandon Wood wakes up.
I know Wood took a long time to hit another HR but I still have some kind of hope that he can be the player that the Angels want.
