over 1 year ago: ANAHEIM CA - SEPTEMBER 12: Dan Haren #24 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitches against the Seattle Mariners during the second inning at Angel Stadium on September 12 2010 in Anaheim California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)
Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 3, Mariners 0

The Angels may be out of the division race but that doesn't mean they don't want the Seattle Mariners to have a good draft pick next June. A three game sweep of the Seattle Nine was completed by a punctual drubbing at the hands of Ace 2.0 Dan Haren. The righthander struck out 6 in 7 innings pitched. Hideki Matsui drove in a bases loaded run on catcher's interference in the 1st inning, Juan Rivera had an RBI single and Mike Napoli hit a solo insurance HR in the 8th.
Fernando Rodney converted a save with as big a cushion as Elias allows and Jordan Walden struck out 2 in one inning of work. In a sign of the times, today was a kids Back-to-school "Reminder Binder" giveaway. Forget childhood, it is time for the youth of Orange County to stick to a schedule.

Jered Weaver says hi.
(with a tear in his eye)

Catcher's interference = no at bat, therefore no RBI.
Lots of ways to build fun baseball puzzles out of that event.
Stirrups - September 12, 2010
yay

I am happy that Sosh gave Walden a chnce in the 8th inning set-up role.
Good job Sosh. Let’s keep this progressive management going.

"Alright little Mikey......you're premium."
Chzburger Jones - September 12, 2010
But not premium enough!
Clutch - September 12, 2010
He let him bat clean up as well.
Did Mike suddenly see the light?

I watched Soth's mannerisms right after the high 5
He takes off his hat and scratches his head very inquisitively. I wonder what he was thinking?
angelslogic - September 12, 2010
"perhaps
there’s something to this lil Mikey kid, he sure has been hitting a lot of homeruns when he plays. The flow chart may need an update."

DAD OF VLAD - September 12, 2010
Some teams need a few games to get going.
49ers will turn it around, too much talent.
SenorChuckles - September 12, 2010
What is this about the flying catcher's mitt?
I missed it, being busy doing stuff.
opiejeanne - September 12, 2010
First run scored on Catcher's Interference.
red floyd - September 12, 2010
Details, Red, details.
opiejeanne - September 12, 2010
I didn't see it either. Didn't check in until 2nd or 3rd inning.
red floyd - September 12, 2010
Plain and simple:
Matsui swung at the ball……..bat hit the catcher’s mitt, knocking it off his hand = catcher’s interference. (The catcher was reaching forward to catch and frame the ball).
The bases were loaded. Matsui takes first base, in effect driving in a run, but no RBI (as explained by Stirrups above).

Wow
That’s pretty bad right there and usually seems to happen to Matsui a lot as well.
blast21dave - September 12, 2010
Cuz he leaves his hands back in the zone so long
Rally Manatee - September 13, 2010
And what does TX do? Sweep the Yankees!
Not that it matters anymore.
Rally Manatee - September 13, 2010
Just when you hope the
MFY actually act and play like the MFY they go and and impersonate a crappy team…
Figures
blast21dave - September 13, 2010
I think Selig paid them off to lose to TEX so that the Halos wouldn't have a snowballs chance of catching them.
Not that the Halos had one anyways.
red floyd - September 13, 2010
Yanks just lulling the mighty rangers to sleep......
so they can sweep them when it matters.
norcaliangelsfan - September 13, 2010
Went to the game yesterday....
and found out for myself how bad Rodney really is. Dude throws more balls than strikes, yet still gets the f**king save? You gotta be kidding me. F. Rodney: A player who lives up to his name.
Mission: Incomprehensible - September 13, 2010
Baseball season still going on?
Fooootballlll!!! Anyways even tho our team sucks, gotta say we have the friendliest staff at any stadium. Got our art supplies Saturday(alas, none for the grown ups),got the lil one a rally monkey, nice vendor, wandered up to our seats, got thunder sticks and tattoos from the info booth, she just offered em! Got our food, joked w/the CPK workers. All in all a great night. Wifey actual became an angel fan this year, don’t know why but going to a lot more games next year. Leave off w/her quote about Jepsen. “he pitches fast balls!”
