Hank Conger and Mark Trumbo Debuts

Have two players ever debuted in the big leagues back-to-back as pinch hitters?

Okay smarty pants, when else in baseball history did it happen where the first guy they were pinch hitting for had a jersey whose numbers added up to 10 and each of their jerseys added up to 10?

Hank Conger and Mark Trumbo officially entered the big leagues. Conger pinch hit for Hideki Matsui as DH (jersey #55), and wore jersey #64 while Trumbo, wearing jersey #37, followed, pinch hitting for Mike Napoli at 1B (jersey #44). For the record, Trumbo replaced Napoli in the field at 1B while Conger was the DH of record. Neither had another plate appearance in the game.

I was glad to see them get that first AB out of the way.

Conger was in the dugout before the game autographing ball tossed to him. It was cool to see him doing this.

See what happens when they play!

Conger

I think Angel fans are hoping that Conger develops into Napoli, and that Captain Mike thinks he is as good as Mathis.

Where to put Trumbo?

IF Trumbo joins the big club, where do you put him? Who does he spell/replace/platoon with? Aybar? Kendrick? Morales? Wood? Callaspo? Izturis (if he get healthy for a whole season)? I don’t know that until the Angels’ management figures out who the will keep as their infielders, Trumbo has a shot at seeing playing time.

Not to be doom and gloom, but Sean Rodriguez might be a cautionary tale here as it relates to the Angels’ infield situation for next season and Trumbo.
