Final Score in Fenway: Angels 7, Red Sox 2

In their tenth try this season, the Angels beat the Boston Red Sox. Ervin Santana baffled the Pilgrims lineup and Hideki Matsui made faltering overpaid former ace Josh Beckett look like the little female dog that he is with a big 3-Run HR.
Texas lost to Buck Showalter so the Angels are only 7 Games Behind the Rangers. Could Mike Scioscia's squad have sole possession of first place before Labor Day?

Freakin Sweet!
At least for one day we rule and they suck! I take that back. Boston always sucks, regardless of whether they score more or fewer runs than their opponent any given day.

Freakin Sweet? Peter Griffin, is that you?

Rangers leaving the door open...
…for 1995.
cardinalwraith - August 19, 2010
Ya never know.
Yah just never know.
Also, H8 on your signature, <3.
Clutch - August 19, 2010
The Angels are currently 7 games out and have 40 games left to play.
In 1995 with 40 games left, the Angels had a 9.5 game lead on the Rangers and an 11.5 game lead on the Mariners. The Mariners were basically a .500 team at that point (52-51).

Wow, I always knew it was a major collapse, but those numbers illustrate how just how epic of a meltdown 95 really was.
I have no doubt that Texas is capable of fading (they might already be fading), I just don’t think our team has the horses to get hot for an extended the extended period of time it would take to catch up.

My post is replete with repeat words, allow me to revise my post.....
Ah, who the hell cares anyway!
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - August 19, 2010
That Seattle team
Had Edgar and Tito Martinez, Jay Buhner, Ken Griffey Jr., and of course, Randy Johnson. A-Rod even made a cameo. I’m not exactly seeing a parallel.
Suboptimal - August 20, 2010
not only that
but the 500 record they had gotten too was in part because Griffey had his wrist injury that year and was out for awhile.
lmao at Tito Martinez. If only that was his name.

All we have to do is win ballgames....
it is as simple as that and all the rest will take care of itself!
kbrown2225 - August 19, 2010
Never thought of it that way.
I was under the impression we just had to score more runs than the opponent.
Do you have a newsletter I can subscribe to?
clover_black - August 19, 2010
Is that what the Angels have been doing wrong this whole time?
Damn, I wish I had thought of that. I could have landed a front office job as an analyst.
Suboptimal - August 19, 2010
We must win more ballgames!
Why wasn’t this ever preprogrammed into Sosh’s daily planner instead of all those damn pasta recipes??? Call Ninja & let’s get his people on this asap!

Oh you guys are hilarious...
Texas is fading they are losing a bunch of games but we cannot seem to put together a winning streak. We have about 40 games left we need to win and we can narrrow that gap significantly, but no, we win one or two and lose one or two. If are bats are there then the bullpen melts down, if our starting pitching is great then our bats go silent (and I have it on good authority in the team-only meeting that Abreu and Hunter called they said to the team, and I quote “All we have to do is win ballgames, it is as simple as that and all the rest will take care of itself” and where did they get this amazing theory of baseball? From me!)
kbrown2225 - August 20, 2010
A winning streak would do it
dare to hope?
xavier c - August 19, 2010
my god
can they win another ?

More of this pleaase.
RexTookMyStash - August 19, 2010
Rev,
I love how confident you are of the Texas meltdown. Let’s just hope the angels can play above .500 ball the rest of the season.

I applaud your positivity! BUT...
You must be hittin’ the chronic big time. It’s over dude. It’s so over!
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - August 19, 2010
I dont think its unrealistic to say
we can gain two games on texas in a week. after that we have like 3 series with texas and if we are within 4 or 5 we can easily tie it up. 2 games is not much at all
Halos2011champs - August 19, 2010 via mobile
I agree that this is not out of the realm of possibility,
I just don’t think we have a strong enough team to get and stay hot for an extended period of time. Honestly, have the Angels given any indication that they are capable of an extended winning streak? I’d love to see it happen, I just don’t see it happening.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - August 20, 2010
well, the starting pitching is there
but the hitting and the bullpen are very, very suspect…
