After 40 years in the newspaper biz, Steve Bisheff hung up his toupee and switched to blogging.

So how is The Bisheff Blog? Well it is better than reading Mark Whicker steal borrow anecdotes from websites without attribution, but all that vaunted experience of Steve Combover adds up to him sounding like an average-at-best Halos Heaven poster.
Bisheff went ballistic on the Angels in his blog on Sunday, exactly one day before the predictable TJ Slimefucker attack on Scioscia and the Angels in the LA Tribune (no link to Chicago carpet of bagger).
Summary of Bisheff's Rant:
Yes you read that last one right, the sportswriting dinosaur stereotypes just can't shake that gold glove. They loves them some gold fraggin glove, voted one for Rafael Palmeiro one year even though he was a DH...
What kind of tone-deaf lack of curiosity in the world do these festering sores of sportswriting's dark ages harbor to have never even browsed a goddamned website with statistical research? I mean just a perusal... are advanced stats that much of a challenge to your self-inflated ego? The shit is mainstream you old coot, Bourjos covers more ground than the gold glover who lost at least a step half a season after we signed him.
Sure, many saber analysts are arrogant pricks, picking Seattle as the 6th best organization in baseball because Jack-Z snorted slideruler dust, but their insufferable personalities are a perfect counterbalance to your insular refusal to look beyond the back of the freakin baseball card for analysis of the game. Sportswriting veterans are cartoonish lampoons of themselves. You know the first scene in the Flintstones when Fred slides down the brontosaurus tail? Print beat writers continue to advertise that they aren't even caricatures as sophisticated as Fred, they're the little dinosaur that Fred's brontosaurus ate for lunch did not notice and stepped on last week.
And even being informed about the team without a statistical foundation... Steve, please, if you want to play the "I believe my eyes" card, well then you did not watch 3B become a black hole with Wood in the lineup prior to the Callaspo trade, you shut your eyes on flyballs to avoid seeing seeing Torii Hunter lose range, and you have blinders on not to notice that every other Angels middle reliever sucks at least as much if not more dick than Scot Shields. But again, you're the vet, you're casually informed and your whim is the rule of the land. Hope being the big dog sportswriter gets you laid at Leisure World or at least cuts in line for the shuffleboard tourney if your Cialis prescription runs out.
Oh, and Bish... white text on a black background in a sanserif font inspires people to not read more than a paragraph.

I don't see anyone calling Bisheff knowledgeable or even a "good read"
He’s just an idiot with a blog. Frankly Rev, I’m not sure why this bothers you so much. Here’s my ultra short critique of the main ideas.
- Izzy batting 4th. It happens, Scioscia will bat him anywhere, he proved that 2 years ago. When your lineup sucks something fierce like ours has, you make drastic changes.
- Shields still on the roster. Our entire bullpen has stunk. Blaming Shields won’t get us anywhere, on top of which, DFAing Shields wouldn’t save us any money either.
- Callaspo trade. Well what was our other solution? Izzy won’t stay healthy, and there were no available great 3B. Wood certainly wasn’t the answer, neither was Franny. Offer a better solution and I’m all ears/eyes.
- Bourjos/Hunter. Well that just sums it up right there. You don’t have to be an expert to see the difference between Peter and Torii.
No biggy, just another idiot with a blog Rev. Undeserving of a spot on HH front page.
Halowood - August 10, 2010
Going to have to agree with Halowood...
I love HH and participate daily. That said, your rant almost reeks of what? Jealousy? I realize oafs like this get media access that you do not…that will change somehow someday…
1. Gazoo batting cleanup whilst Hula is suspended…actually seems fitting for this season…
2. My only disagreement has been the usage of Shields…we are paying him anyway, let him mop up…and God knows there has been plenty of mopping up to do this season. If he ever pulls his head out this year then use him differently…till then…
3. Pains me to say that I have been in total agreement with Bisheff on this one…“I JUST DON”T GET IT!" I’ve already been verbal enough about this one so I will leave it alone.
4. Bourjos’ defense…Steve, Torii’s defense has been less than stellar since he got here. (His dropped line drive in the playoffs vs Boston a couple years ago was ruled a hit by some home-field miracle for example) Watching Fleet Pete make the OF look small the last week has been the most fun I have had watching Angels baseball ALL SEASON! Where SB could be correct is, what if Bourjos fails to hit? You have (properly so!!!) moved your CF ro RF already and stated it is permanent. Guess Weggie plays there? (Note to Peter, please please hit at least .250…did I mention please?)
5. I am still thankful that Scioscia is our manager. I am sure this season has pained him as much or more than anyone. The consistency and dedication to winning we have is a blessing. I live in Seattle and consistently have to watch the M’s change managers every other year (sometimes twice a year) and GM’s too. When they lost Gillick this place went to hell…I am confident the same would likely happen if Soth left. I’m not as sold on Reagins, but then I am not sure I ever really was.
In reference to TJ’s article and moving media parking…from what I have seen of many of the media, most are fat phuckers who could use the exercise…don’t worry TJ et al, the spread and all the other perks the team will have up in the media area will offset that nice walk. Just sayin’
K3YEROUT - August 10, 2010
i don't want the media access
Bottom Line: if someone is going to trade on their reputation, that reputation will be put up to scrutiny.

This is one of those late-night benders right?
Or shooting from the hip tonight?
In either case, I believe the author was letting off some steam after seeing the Angels allow at least 9 runs (in a losing effort) for the 2nd time in a week and for the 13th time this season.
In fact, the largest amount of runs the Angels have allowed yet still win the game is 7 (3 times the Angels have won 9-7) but have lost every game where the opposition scores 8+ runs.
With the author, reading his thoughts just seems like old news compared to here.
blast21dave - August 10, 2010
I've been reading HH for awhile
And this seems like one of your better rants Rev. Good job. Bisheff is a hack.
linkbruin - August 10, 2010
I'll take a crack, usually I'm too lazy
1. Mike has consistantly put Iz in an RBI position over the previous two years (won 197 games). Iz hits well with RISP. Iz has been injured and his current batting average is low but he has been hot lately. Vis-a-vis with Hunter out and Iz heating up he gets an RBI position.
2. There is a very smart yet cranky old man on this site that totally agrees with this (cut shields now!). I don’t feel like arguing with him (see lazy above) so I will leave it at that. Though you have to understand that we are VERY thin on relievers.
3. Callaspo trade. For: We need a quality cheap infielder badly. Hard to get both quality and cheap. Against: Tough to give up a very young pitcher who is doing ok in MLB. We could use the starting pitching depth right now.
4. Peter’s defense and speed on the bases are a breath of fresh air for this team, especially coupled with Torii’s defense in RF. Even if it’s temporary, it has been a boost for the team.
5. You didn’t mention it but this guy also dissed Mike pretty bad. Mike coolness under pressure is going to get the Angels through this rough period.
Having said all this, I’m sure a lot of people here on HH agree with a number of things the man said.
vladtheimpaler - August 10, 2010
I don't usually care for TJSimers' articles,
but the one which the Rev refused to link is pretty funny: Did they actually move media parking 700 feet away? I doubt it; but it would be hysterical if they did. (700 feet is a long way).
He starts with Arte, then immediately goes after Scioscia and the usual suspect players. I was actually a bit disappointed when he switched his insults to the Doyers.
Seems like all the print media is bitching today.
wumbug - August 10, 2010
Reading this rant was better than my morning coffee.
I love it! For the following line alone I give it a recommendation:
Now I’m ready to start my day- bring it on!
agent_99 - August 10, 2010
Double headache inducing..
both the layout and the content makes my head hurt. Yabba-Dabba Don’t.
hbhalofan - August 10, 2010
Rev, I thought you were a TJ fan?
clover_black - August 10, 2010
i want it both ways
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
posted this below but here is my take on TJ for clover:
He was a breath of fresh air, but he phones in the columns now, he did not even try on this Angels one, if he had been paying half attention to the team it could have been so much funnier, biting and true – and that is what is missing from his column that initially made it awesome – he told the truth… now he just assrapes Tribune Company shareholders by sleepwalking through schtick.
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
i can jive with that.
i always thought of him as a troll… but trolls can be entertaining sometimes.
clover_black - August 10, 2010
I thought
brontasouruses were herbavores
2pintsofbooze - August 10, 2010
That was my first reaction too.
angelskid2210 - August 10, 2010
Damn... missed this when I posted my nerd alert below.
2pints and angelskid are correct.
red floyd - August 10, 2010
changed it to
stepped on
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
ya got me there
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
spot on...
I once had three day long email argument with bisheff (you may remember me forwarding it to ya, rev) over statistically inaccurate statements that he made in a couple articles. I pulled evidence everywhere from baseball reference to fangraphs and he still refused to acknowledge any mistake or inaccuracy. OH AND THE BEST PART, when I commented on the articles showcasing how he was wrong, he had my comments DELETED from the site…yep, Steve is a fool…keep yr angel news and analysis to HH, kids.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - August 10, 2010 via mobile
So he is kind of like the
arrogant douchebag umpires except he is a “writer”?
angelskid2210 - August 10, 2010
Nerd alert
Brontosaurs were vegetarians.
red floyd - August 10, 2010
does calling them herbavores
instead of vegetarians make me an even bigger nerd?
2pintsofbooze - August 10, 2010
You win.
But you misspelled “herbivores”. :-P
red floyd - August 10, 2010
changed it
to the bronto stepping on Bisheff
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
since you corrected the spelling
we’ll call it a tie
2pintsofbooze - August 10, 2010
Actually, they are called Apatosaurus now. "Brontosaurus" is obsolete.
Stirrups - August 10, 2010
Yes, that's true as well.
However, “Brontosaurus” has a long legacy usage.
red floyd - August 10, 2010
Plus, Fred Flintstone used a *BRONTOSAURUS* as a crane, not an Apatosaurus.
Did you ever hear anyone order “Apatoburgers” on that show? Nope, just “Brontoburgers”.
red floyd - August 10, 2010
and when they change the name again in fifty years
to the praiseallahsaurus, most folks will still be calling them brontos.
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
Well, there already is an Allosaurus, so you're halfway there.
red floyd - August 10, 2010
You are missing a great story. One with great straight lines.
A Bronto was merely an Apto with the wrong dino skull stuck on his neck. All of science followed along and had it wrong for decades and decades.
Stirrups - August 10, 2010
Haiku for a lazy columnist
TJ Simers writes
In one sentence paragraphs.
Spills much invective.
Suboptimal - August 10, 2010
TJ -- "How boring has it become in Orange County? The fans were doing the Wave on Monday night."
TJ must not get to many Angels games. Much as I hate it, every game I’ve been to, someone’s started a wave.
red floyd - August 10, 2010
yeah
it is painfully apparent that these guys don’t do their homework.
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
The last game I was at
we had full wave participation for an entire inning. Went around the stadium 4 or 5 times
Epic Dean - August 10, 2010
F the Wave
It was cool during the Olympics in 1984, and kinda fun to watch during the ’84 World Series. It was tired and played out by 1986.
What really irks me is when people start it while the visiting team is at bat. Hello? Because people cheer when they’re doing it, it has the net effect of cheering for the opposing team! At the very least, wait until the Angels are batting to engage in such nonsense.
jjackflash - August 10, 2010
I love the wave
it means people are paying attention to something besides their blackberries.
2pintsofbooze - August 10, 2010
Feh
I’d rather they pay attention to their Blackberries than pay attention to people standing up and sitting down on either side of them. At least the former doesn’t interfere with me trying to follow what’s happening on the field.
jjackflash - August 10, 2010
+ infinity...
never WAVE when your pitcher is on the mound. BAD FORM. VERY, bad form.
Downing Rules - August 11, 2010
Simers sucks
I literally don’t even read his crap anymore…he’s been writing the same tired Angel columns for years now.
Lemme guess-“they’re boring.”
GA'sLawnchair - August 10, 2010
plus he's got a weird voice
when I turned on the radio and heard him yesterday I was like “who the eff is this little gremlin?”
2pintsofbooze - August 10, 2010
Simers is only fun when he rips on the McCourts
righteous halo - August 10, 2010
It's also the only time he's right....
red floyd - August 10, 2010
My take on Simers
He was a breath of fresh air, but he phones in the columns now, he did not even try on this Angels one, if he had been paying half attention to the team it could have been so much funnier, biting and true – and that is what is missing form his column that initially made it awesome – he told the truth… now he just assrapes Tribune Company shareholders by sleepwalking through schtick.
Rev Halofan - August 10, 2010
Simers is spot on on Mike
he is a control freak and has been for years, calling pitches over-managing games etc etc. The best thing he can do is get out of the way and let players play.
“This road trip was very important, and we played like garbage,” White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Sunday after losing back-to-back series at the Twins and the Kansas City Royals. “We’re better than this.”
Mike should TRY being so honesty one day

Newspapers without a national online presence (OC Register)are even more anemic than this Angels team. I can’t blame the guy for attempting to hold on to some sort of relevance in his supposed area of expertise. Unfortunately the problem begins when the effort is obviously half-ass’d and under researched. Personally I don’t care what Peter does with that bat this year as he adjust…it’s just nice to see a gifted young athlete play the outfield again.
