Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 4, Rangers 1

Jered Weaver threw 115 pitches, four Angel batters had a ribby and an umpire not genuflecting in Cliff Lee worship took away about three inches off the corner that the Texas ace is used to having gifted his way. Such brutal honesty of a strike zone forced a few fat pitches to come our way and the Angel bats made the best of the real pitching.
Ranger Josh Hamilton pinch it and drew a walk but his patella tendinitis, coupled with Vladimir Guerrero's slump and Nelson Cruz returning to Earth has to make a panic strike deep in the heart of Texas as the Rangers have almost no wiggle room and messed up the locker room chemistry with so many July add-ons that guys in the clubhouse might mistake their new teammates for the kid who gets everyone coffee.
The Angels still have seven games left with the Rangers, all of which occur in the final 13 games of the year. Fasten your seatbelts, we got a pair of aces, Ervin's VooDoo, smoke and mirrors as a rotation. The bats may find a groove yet and the defense is much improved. What else do you want? Wins please.

Great win.
Keep winning series, the rest will sort itself out. Hoping for that, at least.

Lets sweep Blatimore, pray for Texas to get swept and we are back in this
Halos2011champs - August 1, 2010

Hope we sweep the Orioles but thats easier said then done i’d imagine.

Rev? It was 4-1.
red floyd - August 1, 2010
That's how much Rev doesn't acknowledge Howie, he doesn't even give him credit for the SF
In his mind, it was 3-1.
Let him red, let him be
hk47 - August 1, 2010
I think you guys just gotta reload
Mine says 4-1
linkbruin - August 1, 2010
i fell asleep during most of this game
woke up to a muted tv with everyone high-fiving and hopped into action … i like Howie when he is in his future batting champion groove!

Epic Dean - August 1, 2010
Nice win.
Although now my worst fear is that we still miss the playoffs by a bunch of games but finish with a record that gives us the 16th overall pick in next year’s draft…..which we lose when we head into free agency this winter.
I mean, if we’re going to have a disaster of a season, let’s at least get a protected draft pick out of it.
Robviously - August 1, 2010
If we don't sign Cowert soon we'll have the 19th pick
Epic Dean - August 1, 2010
I hope we sign Cowert.
I wasn’t blown away by the other guys we drafted in June. I thought the Angels were a little too concerned with signability.
And for that matter, I really hope we shell out the money to sign Osich and Valdez. We traded a lot of pitchers in the last couple weeks.
Robviously - August 1, 2010
yea
just give Osich what a late first rounder would make and if he turns it down then he’s taking a huge risk coming off of TJ surgery. Say he only gets back to like 91 with less command than he had, and he probably wouldn’t even be drafted in the first 5 rounds.
MH252525 - August 1, 2010
18th!
Clutch - August 1, 2010
Nope, he was picked 18th so we get a protected pick
1 pick after he was picked
Epic Dean - August 1, 2010
And next year's draft is supposed to be better than this year's was.
For what it’s worth. I basically think the draft comes down to which teams are willing to pick the guys that it’ll be tough/expensive to sign. We benefited from that big time when we selected Jered Weaver.
Robviously - August 1, 2010
Oh ok then.
Man how sweet would it be to have the #12 (or better) AND the #19 pick?
Clutch - August 1, 2010
6 earned runs from the top 3 in the rotation.
That’ll get ’er done, keep it up.
Slasher52 - August 1, 2010
angels have 55 games left in the season rangers have 57
We just need to win 8 games more than they do in that span of time which is entirely doable.
devildogamp - August 1, 2010
they are totally falling apart
we can do it with this head start no problem, don’t make vacation plans for october, folks…
Rev Halofan - August 1, 2010
Definately doable it just comes down to how much guys want it.
You gotta imagine veterans like Torii and Bobby should be hungry down the stretch to make a postseason run

Just got back from the game
And I have just one question: Who hit Napoli with a tranquilizer after rounding third in the first inning? He was hoofing it 1st to 3rd (hoofing as only Naps can) but coming down the line it looked as if he hit quicksand. I was baffled. Cliff Lee was definitely human today also. He was hit hard in that first.
hobbit_86 - August 1, 2010
He hoofed too much from 1st to 3rd and couldn't hoof any more

yea I said something in the gameday thread about this
you can’t fault him for being sent at all… You can very easily count 1 thousand 1 1 thousand 2 all the way to 1 thousand 4 and the guy is still like 10 ft from the plate. Obviously he’s not 100% in terms of his legs/running ability right now, because I’ve never thought of him as being a slow guy which he was on that play.
MH252525 - August 1, 2010
got back from the game.
never seen so many texas fans at an angel game before. One happened to bring a texas flag and would wave it to… nelson cruz?
Booing vlad is pretty weak.
The difference between a 6.75 beer and an 8.50 beer is 3 ounces.
clover_black - August 1, 2010
$1.75 is a lot to pay for three extra ounces.
My biggest ballpark pet peeve is paying $6 for pop only to have the food services person fill the entire cup with ice (to the top) before they even begin filling it with pop. At this point I have no problem telling them to dump the ice out and try again even if that means the halfwit behind the counter is going to give me a dirty look.
Robviously - August 1, 2010
Arte prefers teh smaller beers, too. He says he likes his beer cold.
firebird81 - August 1, 2010
Now they have the free refill soda.
My wife and I just shared 1 soda and got it refilled like 4 times. It’s cheaper in the long run.
I used to always say “with not a lot of ice” when I asked for a soda. But now I’ll just always get the free refill one.
Rally Manatee - August 1, 2010
The unlimited refills didn’t seem to e an option in the upper deck Saturday, which surprised me as I know I saw it in the lower deck earlier this year.

I booed Vlad saying "ENOUGH ALREADY! WE LOVE YOU, BUT CUT IT OUT!"
Downing Rules - August 1, 2010
I booed Vlad each time he came to bat.
I gave him the “courtesy” applause the first time the Rangers were at the Big A – (his first at bat only) after that – you’re on the opposing team. What I don’t understand is Angels fan, wearing Angels hat and Vlad jersey’s cheering for vlad to hit a HR. Pick a team!!!
angelsfan7 - August 1, 2010
We agree on this one...
Downing Rules - August 2, 2010
I heard some people booing Molina too
Can’t boo anyone on the 2002 team. Seriously guys.
Slyintine - August 1, 2010
I'll cheer him next year when we have a 9-game lead...
but right now, we mean business. The Angels need passion out there, not politeness. BOOOOOOOOO!
Downing Rules - August 1, 2010
These guys know… there is no reason to cheer for them anymore… Molina has been gone long enough and now he’s on the team that we want to BEAT.
angelsfan7 - August 1, 2010
I agree there’s no reason to cheer them, but there’s no reason to boo them either.
Gorbachav5 - August 1, 2010
I'm with Sly
anyone on the 2002 team gets a lifetime pass. Lackey makes that hard, and I understand those who do, but I can’t and won’t
Moondoggy - August 1, 2010
word
“some things are forever, some things are not.
It’s the things we remember that gave us shock.
They stay in a place in your mind so snug…
like who the person was whom you first made love”.
Funke5ive - August 2, 2010
In my defense of booing DURING THE GAME:
I sit in the bullpen area and whenever Bengie was within earshot, I’d yell “We miss you Bengie!” and he’d look up and wave. When he’s in the batter’s box against our pitchers, I am booing like hell. Big difference.
Downing Rules - August 2, 2010
Booing is different for everyone, I guess
I only boo players I legitimately don’t like for more reasons than just their skill at baseball or the team for whom they play. I’m definitely more prone to booing Red Sox or Yankees or A’s. But aside from that, you have to be a real d-bag to earn my boos (or a pitcher who throws more than three times over to first base during an at bat – freaking PITCH THE BALL).
And usually former Angels players get a free pass, unless they mouth off about the organization once they leave (ahem, Lackey). I won’t root for them to do well against the Angels, but I won’t boo them.
Gorbachav5 - August 2, 2010
Why would you blatantly lie to Bengie?
snowhor - August 2, 2010
Oh, crap....
Another week before they thrown in the towel and start cleaning house.
SurfCityTom - August 1, 2010
The Angels beat Cliff Lee....
I was there – it was a great game. Yes there were still some really dumb things done in this game but all in all – this was Angels baseball.
Sosh loaded the line up with guys who play smallball and it worked. Cliff Lee gave up 2 walks (yes one was intentional). Weaver K’s 7 and shut them out (1 unearned run). It was so much fun to watch this team play.
This series should have been a sweep – Haren gave up 1 bad pitch and that’s all.
I’m NOT giving up on this team until the math says I have to give up. It’s August now and we are winning in August 1-0.
On to Baltimore – GO ANGELS.

McNutt won't be coming up.
He would have to be added back to the 40-man in order to be called up to the active roster. Not gonna happen. They DFA’d him to clear his 40-man slot already. There’s no room at the Inn…

Looking at our schedule gives me a bit of hope.
Since Santa Barbarans cannot watch KCOP games, I just followed the game tracker on my phone today. I really wish we could have swept, but oh well.
Looking at our schedule, we have 30 games left against teams worse than us. We have 22 against teams with a better record (although the A’s, Jays, and Tigers are about even with us). If we get a couple of sweeps against the lousy teams, and do just slightly better than .500 against the good teams, we’d could end up with 90 wins. If TX continues to falter, that might be enough to catch them.
However, I’d rather just totally go on fire and win the next 20 in a row or something.
Rally Manatee - August 1, 2010
You should...
make a post about this lack of television coverage.
(Sorry, sometimes I’m an A-hole when drunk.)
hittheg - August 2, 2010
I did
about 2 or 3 years ago. A bunch of the long standing HHers may remember. I asked for people to write or call all the powers that be. My mom, who was also behind the campaign, got a call from Tim Mead assuring us that the Angels are aware of the problem, and doing all they can.
“All they can” turned out to be nothing. KCOP is owned by KEYT locally. KEYT has decided to air Retro TV instead of MyTV on channel 13. It’s probably more expensive to carry MyTV, so they don’t bother. Consequently, Angels fans in Santa Barbara county cannot watch any game on KCOP.
Rally Manatee - August 2, 2010
