Finale Score in Oakland: Angels 6, Athletics 5...
Fernando Rodney blew a 2-Run Lead in the 8th inning after All Star Torii Hunter had put the Angels ahead 5-3 with a two-run HR (the 250th of his career) in the top of the inning. That spoiled a Quality Start by Joel Pineiro. The first three runs of the game were courtesy of a two-run HR by Bobby Abreu in the 1st inning and a Hideki Matsui Sac Fly with the bases loaded in the 6th.
But Erick Aybar hit a solo HR to lead off the top of the 10th inning and the Angels took the first game of this 3-Game set with the A's. Good news for the Angels was Andrew Bailey pitching the 9th and 10th for the A's, hopefully gassing out, and yet, seeing as he was quite capable allowing Angels baserunners, maybe not.
The next time you see a run prevention chart in regard to outfield defense, recall tonight's game as a reason why the Angels will give up 20 - 40 more runs than the league average. Awful fielding in the outfield by Abreu and Juan Rivera could have been as close to the blame of the game besides F-Rodney as anything else.
Kevin Jepsen got the win with a scoreless 9th inning and Brian Fuentes pitched a 1-2-3 10th inning for his 16th Save.

I can't get
Mike Scioscia’s bullpen management flowchart out of my head. Rodney come in and before he even gives up a hit I’m thinking “Please, no bullpen fail”. Then “Oh no! bullpen fail!”
Jepsen and Fuentes pitched great but they are so inconsistent that I’m fearing the worst. Can barely watch. But they pull through and win a close game.
Rodney took a panther away from Torii. He would have been the man. But extra innings give Aybar the chance to shine. Throw in his bunt hit and run scored in the first, plus doing the job on D as Pineiro got everything hit to shortstop seals the panther.
