Torii Hunter's 2 HR Blast Angels Past Royals

Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 11 Royals 0

Star-divide

Torii Hunter was able to produce fireworks on his own on this Independence day, by blasting 2 Home Runs: A 3R HR in the 3rd, and a 2R HR in the 7th. Not only that, another timely single in the 8th gave him 2 more RBIs, giving a total of 7 RBIs for the day! Impressive work sir!

Coupled with a quality start by Pineiro with 7 IP and giving up 0 runs! Happily, the bullpen was able to continue the shut out ball, keeping the Royals from putting any runs on the board. Pineiro gets credited with the win, pushing him up to a record of 9-6!

Meanwhile, the Rangers lost this Independence day, shrinking the gap to first down to 3.5!

Hope everyone has been enjoying their 4th!!

Big Mac

Attack

POTG = Panther

Scottnak, nice to see you!

POTG = Torii

I was so happy to see Scottnak, I became all flabbergasted.

Typically,

If you’re POTG, you’re also Panther…

The first rule of Tautology Club is the first Rule of Tautology club

There are

6 exclamation points in this post-game. Lol.

John Kru er. McaNulty FTW

What a guy hopefully he continues his Mark Reynolds esque numbers,

LOL

I’d be fine with that.

This was an awesome game to watch.
Usually

when the pitcher goes 6+ innings gives up no runs and gets the win, I immediately vote for him as POTG.

But I gotta give it up when Torii ruins many people’s birthdays in one day.

Great game for Hula Dula and team

The announcers on TV were saying how Hunter should enter the home run derby;
any chance of that happening?

Don't want him to do that.

I’m selfish that way.

But it would be cool for our fans

to have our boy to root for (and more “Weave was Screwed” signs on nat. tv)

Yeah, but no.

Don’t want him to leave it all there in the HR Derby and have none left for a significant portion of the rest of the season.

Oh c'mon--that wouldn't happen to Torii

Torii’s problem is running into walls
That’s what kills his season,

Besides, Season Fail after the derby:
coincidence, injury, head case syndrome, etc.,
not because of some extra mighty wacks in a one-night circus performance

Let's not be too paranoid

Torii isn’t more likely to hurt himself in the derby than he is taking batting practice. Yes, as Maicer knows there’s always a risk. But let him take his swings.

torii tore it up

even with that second homer it was kind of borderline, but to come through AGAIN with that single to bring his RBI’s up to 7, that iced the cake.

what makes hunter so special is the way he can carry a team on his back like he did yesterday.

Game Haiku:

Fireworks in the sky
Fireworks on the field – oh my!
Angels light it up!

TIP OF THE HAT
  • to perseverance. Cory Aldridge last played in the majors in 2001. Since that time he has toiled in the minors. I congratulate him on his persistence and not giving up.
  • to the Angels’ front office. I was very happy they brought up McAnulty and Aldridge. I was tired of the Angels not optimizing their 25 man roster. Having Quinlan on the team was pointless and the 7th pitcher in the bullpen was of no value.
  • to the Royals. Normally they are a regional disgrace. Last night it was national.

Winning the AL West for the Angels this year will be a great challenge. They aren’t as good as previous Angel teams. However Winston Churchill* said it best; “Never give up! Never surrender!”

(* may or may not have been Churchill)

your 3rd point made me lol.

well done.

What? No "Wag of the Finger"????
What a great game

shooting fireworks while watch Torii light his own out of the stadium
