I have it on good authority that Dylan Hernandez of the LA TIMES is a liar. My sources close to the Angels vehemently insist that they team never had any interest in acquiring Manny Ramirez from the Dodgers. Dylan Hernandez knew he was reporting a fabrication from a magic secret source and he published it to annoy the Angels for not giving him any tidbits near the trade deadline and to reinforce his credibility as being near "big stories." I am calling him out because bloggers get stereotyped as being unprofessional and here is an example of a mainstream reporter LYING in order to get attention and build his brand. Hey Dylan Hernandez, to quote another Dylan, when it comes to your old school media circlejerk masquerading as "insider reporting" hey: the times they are a changin' ... the blogs are riding your ass.
More Trade Deadline wrapup at MLB DAILY DISH and the SBNation MLB page. The Angels did nothing.

Fuentes for Hermida was one of the rumors I saw.
Fred Fredrix - July 31, 2010
LOL
I just read that Hermida has been DFA’d
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
man if you would have told me that in 2007
I would have told you, that you must have had more crack than Washington and Hamilton combined.
MH252525 - July 31, 2010
I wonder what we'll do for a closer next year.
Does anyone know if there are any good closers on the market?
Balls and Strikes - July 31, 2010 via mobile
Mariano Rivera!
~MMP~ - July 31, 2010
Who's he?

We can swap Riveras.

Yankees closing in on a Kerry Wood deal
~MMP~ - July 31, 2010
Which is hilarious.
Figgi4life - July 31, 2010 via mobile
yeah it is.
SenorChuckles - July 31, 2010
I guess we're not selling after all.
Fred Fredrix - July 31, 2010
Depending on where we stand, I could see Reagins trying to move some veterans after the deadline
~MMP~ - July 31, 2010
I agree.
And don’t you think that if someone puts a claim on someone like Bobby Abreu, Reagins says “Go ahead and claim him. He’s all yours.”
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - July 31, 2010
Mariners apparently approached the Braves about taking Figgins.
~MMP~ - July 31, 2010
I just read that too

Hi from JFK (between flights)
The Rocks put together 11 straight hits against the Cubs, and batted around TWICE in one inning.
red floyd - July 31, 2010
The Rock?
Dwayne Johnson??
Angels_48 - July 31, 2010
Apparently, he's one hell of a baseball player.
And a pretty great cook, as well.
The_Power_and_the_Glory_of_Robert_Horry - August 1, 2010
Giants got Javier Lopez from the Pirates. I was hoping we could send Fuentes over to them
~MMP~ - July 31, 2010
Yankees getting Kerry Wood
and only paying 1.5million of the 3.6 that he’s owed
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
Doyers trade for Dotel?
Fred Fredrix - July 31, 2010
Just seeing that now
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
stupid trade
McDonald & Lambo were two of their top prospects
Quad Fin Rider - July 31, 2010
Agreed
Maybe the Angels should have offered them Fuentes and could have picked up McDonald and Lambo.
310Angel - July 31, 2010
It's also going to be an interesting day when Lily reports to the Doyers
Casey Blake had publicly called him out for being a cheater earlier this season.
Theriot was more a throw-out, than a throw in to this trade.
The Doyer trades today make little sense, other than the fact that they netted Frank another $3 million for divorce lawyers.
Quad Fin Rider - July 31, 2010

for WIllits? Score!
princeton11loveshalos - July 31, 2010
No Angels traded today.
Now let’s go win the West.
SenorChuckles - July 31, 2010
maybe if our BP can do what it did yesterday
Fred Fredrix - July 31, 2010
I really thought we would make a deal
I guess not. We could still make a post-deadline deal for Abreu, Rivera, or Rodney, but now I don’t see us doing any deal involving Fuentes or Izturis (unless they are announced in the next two hours). We can’t place Fuentes on waivers because another team will pick him up, and the same is probably true for Izturis. Too bad.
Brody - July 31, 2010
If a team picks either up on the wire now
we can either pull them back, trade them to whoever claimed them or just dump salary
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
Good point
Brody - July 31, 2010
Take Fuentes please
Whats the downside to someone claiming him off waivers? If someone wants him, they just have to pay his salary for the rest of the year.
HungryHunter - July 31, 2010
So, let me get this straight
No one wanted ANY of our crap?
Rally Manatee - July 31, 2010
Shocking!
Fred Fredrix - July 31, 2010
Or we wanted more for our crap than teams wanted to pay
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
Brandon Wood
An article in today’s Times suggests that the team tried to pass Wood through waivers (to send him to SLC), but he was claimed. If someone is willing to actually take him, why not explore a trade for something? Anything?
jjackflash - July 31, 2010
Maybe they are
If it is true that he has been claimed, the Angels now have their one team that they are allowed to deal with.
Rev Halofan - July 31, 2010
That would probably be best for Brandon.
Gokyle45 - July 31, 2010
I saw that to in the LA times. It said he would have been in SLC for many weeks by now
It put a smile on my face that the FO finally realzed Woood didnt have MLB skill
Halos2011champs - July 31, 2010
It seems to suggest that we've tried to do it multiple times in the last few weeks
Gonna be interesting to see what happens in the next month
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
If Wood did clear waivers and go to SLC...
…what would his status be for next year? Still no options?
Fred Fredrix - July 31, 2010
No options
but I think he can stay there until they call him up again then he’ll have to go through waivers again and I think he can refuse the assignment if he wants
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
Why did the Marlins pickup Ohman?
Were they just picking him up to get draft picks in the Fall for him? Why didn’t the Angels make a play for him?
310Angel - July 31, 2010
I have no idea, I guess to stock up on draft picks
Gokyle45 - July 31, 2010
saw a tweet
forget if it was heyman, olney, or someone else, but it said that the angels were refusing to sell on fuentes and rodney both.

Dylan Hernanadez of LA Times said Angels looked to get Manny?
Did anyone see that on MLB TRADE RUMORS about the Angels looking to get Manny. Why would they do that?
310Angel - July 31, 2010
Yep, there is a Fanpost about it. Doesn't seem like it went that far if it was even true.
~MMP~ - July 31, 2010
His awesome outfield Defense
I dunno why’d they do that
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
I think the Chisox offer was about the best the Choking Dogs could hope for
Dodgers were to get nobody in return and still have to pay $5 of the $6 million remaining on Manny’s contract.
Quad Fin Rider - July 31, 2010
Red Sox get Saltalamacchia
no word on what Texas get
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
Texas getting
Roman Mendez, Chris McGuinness, a player to be named and cash
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
got more back for him than they gave up
for Guzman and Mendez might end up a top 20 guy in their system
Potential plus slider, hits upper 90’s \
Much better deal than I would have ever expected for a guy that can’t throw the ball back to the mound
laxtonto - July 31, 2010
Should the Angels take a chance on Hermida for OF depth
310Angel - July 31, 2010
We should have got Manny and Dunn for late inning defensive relief
UK Halo - July 31, 2010
Sure
I like Hermida, he’d be be a serviceable guy
Gokyle45 - July 31, 2010
Yankees just DFA'd the Karate Kid
bye bye, Chan Ho Park
Quad Fin Rider - July 31, 2010
Hey now....Dylan might have been right.....
If the Angels were within 2 games of the Rangers, Manny never used PED’s and was not older than 35 years old. So….in THAT world, maybe we did look into Manny.
Halowood - July 31, 2010
Manny is too injury-prone
Too inconsistent offensively and too awful in the outfield…. oh wait.. he’d fit right in our outfield.
Slyintine - July 31, 2010
Unfortunately, our outfield hasn't been very injury prone..
Or else the Bourjos era would have started a few weeks ago..
b0rd3rline - July 31, 2010 via mobile
lmao
Angelsrthebest101 - July 31, 2010
There could still be a chance
That a move was made but not yet announced. I wouldn’t mind, though, if they did nothing today. We still have a shot
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2010
A one in a hundred thousand shot, yes.
Slyintine - July 31, 2010
The only way we have a legit shot is if we sweep the Rangers, and we're 1/3 of the way there...
Then all of a sdden it’s a 6 game lead but we have the momentum and an easier schedule and they’d be spiraling into series with the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays.
It’s not over yet, and I still have hope but really, it pretty much hinges on us sweeping them right now.
Halowood - July 31, 2010
If we ever were to put two pitchers on the mound to do it
Haren and Weaver would be the two.
Slyintine - July 31, 2010
We play our last 7 out of 10 games against the Rangers this season
We have a very doable schedule coming up, Texas is due to melt. Unless we get owned by them over the next 2 games, we aren’t out of it.
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2010
I'm not sure if they'll melt but my instinct tells me they will return back to Earth
Michael Young is good, but not this good. Kinsler’s out, Guzman’s no better than Arias. Hamilton’s wearing down, Vladdy normally would wear down right about now, Nelson Cruz is a career .260 hitter and he’s batting something like .320.
The only two players on their team I can see being “the difference” are Cliff Lee and Jorge Cantu, but I’m guessing they won’t be enough to make up for a probable team-wide nose dive.
Meanwhile, Abreu, Matsui and Rivera are all getting better, Napoli’s heating up again and Maicer/Aybar/Callaspo/Kendrick are all getting the job done. Haren, Weaver and Santana are a lethal three and our upcoming schedule may give us an edge.
The only thing that may really haunt us is Pineiro going down. If he were still healthy, I’d have a hard time believing the Angels wouldn’t win 4 out of the next 5 games.
Such an exciting time.
Halowood - July 31, 2010
Love it
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2010
I totally can see it...
The Angels were so frustrated that they couldn’t get Manny the first time around in that epic bidding war between the Doyers and…who was it…oh Maria’s Food Delivery company servicing the greater…Western ave. Yeah, we came so close.
But we have our chances now. Sure, he is playing extremely well and essentially carrying the Doyers right now, so we might need to pay high but I can see it being worth. No doubts Tony was hard and heavy on that!
Hernandez is a fucknut. No matter how much I question Reagins ability as GM, no sane sports fan would be entertaining the thought of bringing Manny to their club at this stage.
Let alone a GM…
Cool story, bro.
RedFog - July 31, 2010
And I should have put it in the context of teams...
…willing to allegedly pay $1M and no players with the Doyers eating the rest of his contract.
That’s a deal!
RedFog - July 31, 2010
The Angels NEVER wanted Manny
TheAntiSox - July 31, 2010
The angels wanting manny........ yeah right Dylan Hernandez is dumb and a liar
Angelsrthebest101 - July 31, 2010
I don't think any teams wanted our junk..
Monkeyspanked - July 31, 2010
do you want any of our junk?

Nope.
But I like some of our up and coming junk!
Monkeyspanked - July 31, 2010

and need to get a life. lol
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
are the angels underachieving or just not that good?
cupie - July 31, 2010
A bit of both probably
Epic Dean - July 31, 2010
underachieving for sure...
look at Abreu…matsui…even Rivera all though he is heating up…Torri is struggling…its definitely not that they don’t have the potential is just that they never got there
