The kid just knows how to pitch. He pounds the strike zone and doesn’t back down from hitters. He mixes his pitches up pretty well. I don’t know how much of it is smoke and mirrors or luck. It also helps that he has a solid defense behind him. He’s definitely a pitch to contact guy and isn’t going to strike a ton of guys out though. But, he’s a legit middle to back of the rotation guy.

A relief pitcher giving up an HR is bad enough.
When the relief pitcher is making 7 million a year, it’s worse.
When the HR is a grand slam, it’s worse squared.
When the hitter is a guy that has hit 6 HR’s all year…it’s worse cubed.
When the bases were loaded by walking the 7 and 8 hitters…I just don’t know how much worse it can get. Worse to the 4th power just doesn’t describe the level of fail.
And Scioscia will probably run Rodney’s ass out there next game in a critical situation.

I've seen him get up as high as 94 with his FB.
The kid just knows how to pitch. He pounds the strike zone and doesn’t back down from hitters. He mixes his pitches up pretty well. I don’t know how much of it is smoke and mirrors or luck. It also helps that he has a solid defense behind him. He’s definitely a pitch to contact guy and isn’t going to strike a ton of guys out though. But, he’s a legit middle to back of the rotation guy.
