Final Score in the Bronx: Angels 10, Yankees 2

All-Star Yankee pitcher Phil Hughes must have developed a taste for citrus while he was in California for the All Star Game, because he sure served up grapefruits all night. In his first game back from more than a month on the disabled list, Maicer Izturis broke a 2-2 tie with a 2-run HR. Yes, you are reading that right, little Maicer Izturis slapped the face of New Jersey with a bomb to destroy Garden State Yankees.
Mike Napoli added a 2-Run blast 2 innings later and Hideki Matsui hit a 2-run HR the following inning to add insurance to a game that seemed to be out of control early against the Angels. Izturis finished the night with 3 RBI.
Emergency starter Sean O'Sullivan, filling in for the injured and incompetent Scott Kazmir, had a 26pitch, 2-run, 1 BB, 2 hit first inning, but settled down and finished with no more damage in 6 IP, striking out 4. After the 1st, O'Sullivan walked 2 Yankees but allowed no more hits. It was O'Sullivan's first start of 2010 after an earlier callup this year for the bullpen. This was his first start against the Yankees in his career.
I am still pinching myself from this dream of a game and am awaiting Leonardo DiCaprio to enter the house here soon and ask me where the safe with all my money is. Right team, wrong dream, Leo!

Kicked 'em in the nads, stuffed 'em in a locker & took their lunch money
SOS = POTG
Quad Fin Rider - July 20, 2010
SOS panther........
cant ask for more of him than what he gave today…….
and welcome back Mice Tits.
norcaliangelsfan - July 20, 2010
SOS
as regular 5th pitcher. I mean he’s much better than the guy who gave up 13 runs to a 3rd place team. After 1st, SOS blanked out ESPN’s #1 power team.
phoenix15 - July 20, 2010
SOS for sure. Maicer was really good today, but I think SOS was much better than anyone expected
Settled down really nice after that rough 1st inning and was rolling.
~MMP~ - July 20, 2010
No Naps love for POTG?
linkbruin - July 20, 2010
Anyone think Naps gets to 30 HR's this year?
norcaliangelsfan - July 20, 2010
He'll get pretty damn close.
I say 28.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - July 20, 2010
I say 30
princeton11loveshalos - July 20, 2010
I vote 30
firebird81 - July 20, 2010
I am forced to watch the Yankee broadcast being in NJ
and I was thinking Napoli when the gave out their player of the game, and was somewhat, but not completely suprised when they said it was O’Sullivan
billhune - July 21, 2010
Hey, give the kid a jittery first inning.
On the mound in the Bronx, he had to be shitting his pants sideways.
Let’s hear it for the Sauce! (SOS)
Turks Teeth - July 20, 2010
I'd love to vote for both
RallyMonkey5 - July 20, 2010
Me too.
opiejeanne - July 20, 2010
Napo and Aybar got a web gem nominee according to BBTN on that network over there.
sheisalovelyladyandmyapologiestoher - July 20, 2010
Let me guess, Jeter won.
red floyd - July 20, 2010
Naps 30hr?
Sure looks like he’ll grab 30. 30 hr and about 60rbi. Guy hits more solos than I can believe. 2 run shot today? Ok 61rbi.
aces666high - July 20, 2010
He needs the assturds in front of him to learn how to get on base.
snowhor - July 20, 2010 via mobile
Bingo!
How is it his fault if nobody’s on base ahead of him when he hits one?
LAASurfin - July 20, 2010
he is hitting .159 with risp
and is a .215 career hitter with risp.
safe to say, he is more comfortable with nobody on base. He still has more homers with runners on than nobody on this year.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - July 21, 2010
If he's more comfortable hitting with nobody on, why is he batting .241/.331/.526 with runners on base?
snowhor - July 21, 2010 via mobile
SOS is POTG. looked damn good out there after the 1st...
and welcome back mighty mouse!
daze - July 20, 2010
Maybe Might Mice Tits
can heat this team up. Maybe if this team has confidence in its 3rd base production it will become contagious and they become decent. With SOS being decently nails as a 5th starter i’m feelin good about it.
angelskid2210 - July 20, 2010
Who thinks Naps can play 3B?
I’ve mentioned it before, but most of you suckas questioned his range. After seeing him on that hard hit grounder in the 2nd (was is Teix?) I’m even more convinced that we should let Naps mess around at 3B next Spring. He has shown some decent range, and we know he’s got the arm to play 3B.
It would solve a number of problems. 1) Naps could be in the lineup every day, which has proven to be valuable. 2) We could DH Abreu pretty much full time. 3) With Abreu DHing most of the time, we could call up Bourjos for more speed in the OF and on the bases. 4) We won’t have to depend on Wood. 5) Izturis could go back to a super-utility role, which has proven to be all his poor little body can handle. 6) We can let Conger battle with Mathis for the full time catching gig…
I really hope Sosh at least entertains the idea. It could seriously be a huge improvement for the team.
Rally Manatee - July 20, 2010
Keep Napoli at first, I think he is more comfortable there.
Frandsen should be our everyday, and I mean every single day, third baseman.
44FAN - July 20, 2010
Next year I mean, when Morales is back.
I guess we could just as easily try Morales at 3B and keep Napoli at 1B.
Rally Manatee - July 21, 2010
Napoli at the hot corner
is hilarious.
clover_black - July 20, 2010
That's sounds like a corner where you buy drugs
RexTookMyStash - July 20, 2010
Perhaps even
Angel Dust? Hmmm?
The_Power_and_the_Glory_of_Robert_Horry - July 20, 2010
mesmerizing screen name.
clover_black - July 20, 2010
we used to get that in Compton..not gonna say the street...
firebird81 - July 20, 2010
I was laughing at #6
Conger battle with Mathis: It’s Hanks for the taking
eyespy - July 20, 2010
Epic struggle of good vs. evil.
also, having a semi-athletic fat guy at 3rd base would prove highly entertaining.
Bring on the 2011 season, im ready!!!
clover_black - July 20, 2010
The throw from third to first
Is just as far as the throw from the plate to second base. In other words: Magic Eight-Ball says no.
Suboptimal - July 20, 2010
Throwing from 3B to 1B is easier
than throwing out base-stealers at 2B. A base-stealer gets a bigger jump than a hitter gets out of the batter’s box. Also, a third baseman doesn’t usually have to spring out of a crouching position to throw to 1B, and he’s not inhibited by wearing gear. The biggest trick to playing 3B is occasionally having to throw off-balance while ranging to the left or charging a bunt.
Rally Manatee - July 21, 2010
Wouldn't be surprised if every ivory tooth in the clubhouse wasn't visible.
Hopefully they can extrapolate a healthy dose of momentum from this game and continue to play at the level we all know they’re capable of.
RexTookMyStash - July 20, 2010
Oh yea, and, SOS for POTG
So nice to have some relief from the Kaz headache.
Rally Manatee - July 20, 2010
SUCK ON THAT YANKEES FANS
Your multi biilion dollar team was beaten by an AAA Salt Lake City scrub pitcher today!
AH, HA, HA, HA, HA!
Seriously though, SOS did a hell of a job stepping up and doing what was asked of him today. Makes this Angels fan proud.
Your team sucks melkman.
44FAN - July 20, 2010
...
LOL
Chris McKeown - July 20, 2010
Thank you for sharing.
RexTookMyStash - July 20, 2010
I'm sorry, couldn't help but laugh at the arrogance.
I had no idea Napoli could play 1st base so well… Izturis going yard had to be the icing on the cake, though.
Chris McKeown - July 20, 2010
Yup, the Orioles are going to overtake you guys any day now.
RexTookMyStash - July 20, 2010
Agreed, it's just a matter of time.
Those damned birds!
Chris McKeown - July 20, 2010
Yes, it's all over! No postseason for you!
Seriously. just knock down the rays and Sox, will ya???? There’s an AL West Team that needs a wild card….the RANGERS!!!!
firebird81 - July 20, 2010
Nah, I'd prefer the Rays take the wild card over the Rangers
Although at this rate, we might need the WC for ourselves.
TheKingfish - July 20, 2010
Give it to the Rangers....with their legal troubles...and half their team is our guys
firebird81 - July 20, 2010
Maicer should be the DH from now on. Maybe he can stay healthier that way.
Matsui can batboy the rest of the season. The HR he got today does not make up for how bad he sucked all season.
44FAN - July 20, 2010

eyespy - July 20, 2010
Shhhhh
Don’t let anyone know
ryanfea - July 20, 2010
Hey Rev..
If you see Leo DiCaprio ask him what he did to our bullpen. They gave up no runs. Was this a dream?
monkeys54 - July 20, 2010
you're in limbo...
SenorChuckles - July 20, 2010
We won?
What?
bc56274 - July 20, 2010
For the pregame pick...
The answer was actually no. The Angel starting pitcher did not throw the last pitch in the TOP of the fifth inning, he did throw the last pitch in the BOTTOM of the inning but not the top…
WasianCU - July 20, 2010
I agree. :|
TheKingfish - July 20, 2010
How can an Angels pitcher pitch in the top of an inning in an away game?
RexTookMyStash - July 20, 2010
That's the point.
TheKingfish - July 20, 2010
Rev changed the pregame question wording earlier today though it was still very ambiguous.
44FAN - July 20, 2010
Also ambiguous
RexTookMyStash - July 20, 2010
Ewwwwww
Or whatever it is that he/she says
red floyd - July 21, 2010
That's Pat.
opiejeanne - July 21, 2010
I know "It's Pat"
Butis Pat a he or a she?
red floyd - July 21, 2010
The pregame pick was poorly worded.
I bet one point on the technically vorrect (and spiritually incorrect) answer in protest.

We Won!
SOS blew me away from the second inning on. Shock, disbelief, and admiration.
Nice Job by Iz providing the early offensive spark. Nice to have him back.

vladtheimpaler - July 21, 2010

thanks for beating the Rang…. oh…. right.
howiestheman - July 21, 2010
Awesome game!
Big ups to SOS, potg for sure. That strike zone was incredibly tight. I thought for the good hitting yanks would eventually capitalize but our pitchers took care of bidness.
My f-bomb for the month.Oppo Taco is fucking stupid. Someone tell Rojas to stop it. It is really really bad.

And congrats to Cath619!
I believe she saw her first Angels win at Yankee stadium this year???
raskul - July 21, 2010
I am now 1-4, stemming from last Sept. 14
Thanks – Because of this website, I feel a lot less lonely as a displaced Angels fan. :)
cath619 - July 22, 2010
.159 w/risp???
That would put Naps in our top three in that category wouldn’t it??? I’d trade all those solo shots for a catcher who could actually maybe throw out a runner every now and then
