I know it’s early, but I’m writing now for a reason. I’m not asking for anything for myself. But could you possibly bring a 4th of July present to the Angels? They really, REALLY, REALLY need a decent bullpen.
Thank you,
red floyd
P.S. The cookies are hidden in the microwave oven.
heartaches …….. nothing but heartaches!!!!!!!
Seriously, Matsui will only pay off if you give him a month to a month and a half off and then bring him back to hit.
watching Saunders come nowhere close to throwing well in the 9th after getting lucky to get out of the 8th. Only to see Fuentes come in against righties who pwn him.
Has he been ANYTHING approaching reliable? Honestly, there isn’t a single guy IN that pen that I wanted out there in the 9th with a one-run lead. I don’t have confidence in any of them. Fuentes has the veteran experience, which seems as good a reason as any to put him out there over someone else.
I know, and if you recall, I said saunders isn't someone you can stretch to 120 pitches.
But I understand why sosh handed him the ball anyway. At that point you had not a lot of good options and sosh picked one of them.
I don’t even necessarily disagree with you that this one could have been done better by Scioscia, and that especially throwing Shields out there in a one-run game seems like we weren’t trying particularly hard tonight. One of the problems with constantly grinding that axe though is that in situations like this, where you might be right, it’s still hard to take you seriously about it because you’ve said it so often.
if we get swept or lose ground, then write that statement, otherwise realize it is just 1 game and apart from our pitching against Vlad we just kicked the crap out of our rival.
It is one game and there is still a lot of baseball left. The Angels can only control what they do. It seems like they have a tendency to make stupid mistakes that cost them games, and those things need to be fixed.
More like the stupid base running mistakes that have haunted them in the past. They seem to run themselves out of good situations. Another run tonight would have been great and in a crucial situation late in the game, a halfhearted attempt runs us out of an inning. They have been playing better, but there is a long way to go to be a serious threat.
Kyle Davies is a bad pitcher, there should have been more than one run scored against him. Plus if Torii doesn’t get thrown out there is a chance Frandsen gets a hit and blows open the game. This is on the offense and Hunter is one of the main culprits.
What I am saying is that we aren’t helping ourselves out. When we get a good start, we get little to no run support. Or when we get a good start, the blow pen fails. I would like to see a consistent streak where we put those things together.
That said, the Angels out perform their pythag and win close games by being clutch and doing little things right. It is not something that happens that much or is a big deal
nice job at d.h. Matsui, and Fuentes, that was a stellar inning you pitched, oh but lets not forget the rest of the offense that just got hosed by a pitcher with a 6.80+ era. I’m shutting my windows and sliding glass doors so I don’t have to hear the fireworks from the stadium.
They are playing well, if you expected a sweep then you need to re-adjust a bit. And this team loses all the time when only up by 1 going into the 9th, Fuentes is still the closer after all.
GO ANGELS!!

be honest Zu
you didn’t want Jeps to start the 9th?

Dude, have you seen Jepsen this year?
Has he been ANYTHING approaching reliable? Honestly, there isn’t a single guy IN that pen that I wanted out there in the 9th with a one-run lead. I don’t have confidence in any of them. Fuentes has the veteran experience, which seems as good a reason as any to put him out there over someone else.
Zu Long - July 2, 2010
ugh yea I've seen Jeps this year
not nearly as good as the last couple months of last year, but he still has an OPS under 700 vs both righties and lefties.
MH252525 - July 2, 2010
which is much better than Fuentes against righties
and the general consensus on the board was that Saunders was DONE.
MH252525 - July 2, 2010
I know, and if you recall, I said saunders isn't someone you can stretch to 120 pitches.
But I understand why sosh handed him the ball anyway. At that point you had not a lot of good options and sosh picked one of them.
I don’t even necessarily disagree with you that this one could have been done better by Scioscia, and that especially throwing Shields out there in a one-run game seems like we weren’t trying particularly hard tonight. One of the problems with constantly grinding that axe though is that in situations like this, where you might be right, it’s still hard to take you seriously about it because you’ve said it so often.
Zu Long - July 2, 2010
I mean you act like Jepsen DIDN'T give up a lead-erasing home-run the last time out.
Zu Long - July 2, 2010

All I am saying is
a series against the Royals is a crucial time to pick up some ground and losing games the way we did tonight isn’t going to get it done.
gyoung08 - July 2, 2010
it's 1 game
if we get swept or lose ground, then write that statement, otherwise realize it is just 1 game and apart from our pitching against Vlad we just kicked the crap out of our rival.
sctrojan13 - July 2, 2010
You are right.
It is one game and there is still a lot of baseball left. The Angels can only control what they do. It seems like they have a tendency to make stupid mistakes that cost them games, and those things need to be fixed.
gyoung08 - July 2, 2010
if by stupid mistakes you
mean put the bullpen in then i agree
LBClippersFan - July 2, 2010
Haha not quite
More like the stupid base running mistakes that have haunted them in the past. They seem to run themselves out of good situations. Another run tonight would have been great and in a crucial situation late in the game, a halfhearted attempt runs us out of an inning. They have been playing better, but there is a long way to go to be a serious threat.
gyoung08 - July 2, 2010
the loss isn't hunters fault
chances are two outs he doesnt score anyway. sure it was boneheaded but we lost because of our bull pen
LBClippersFan - July 2, 2010
No we didn't
Kyle Davies is a bad pitcher, there should have been more than one run scored against him. Plus if Torii doesn’t get thrown out there is a chance Frandsen gets a hit and blows open the game. This is on the offense and Hunter is one of the main culprits.
sctrojan13 - July 2, 2010
I am not saying he lost it.
What I am saying is that we aren’t helping ourselves out. When we get a good start, we get little to no run support. Or when we get a good start, the blow pen fails. I would like to see a consistent streak where we put those things together.
gyoung08 - July 2, 2010
Yea Hunter screwed up,
That said, the Angels out perform their pythag and win close games by being clutch and doing little things right. It is not something that happens that much or is a big deal
sctrojan13 - July 2, 2010
Is that how a closer is supposed to work? SORIA > Tito Fuentes
graydog28 - July 2, 2010
That sucked. BP fail, lineup fail.
halofolife - July 2, 2010
I almost don't even look forward to the 4th of July game...
…anymore, though I know I’ll get up for hot dogs and beer all the same.
This team just doesn’t have “it” this season.
RedFog - July 2, 2010
i'm going to the LA Galaxy game
i gave my tickets away to my brother
LBClippersFan - July 2, 2010
Rangers lose.
dr-awkward - July 2, 2010
A loss to the Royals? Really ??????
nice job at d.h. Matsui, and Fuentes, that was a stellar inning you pitched, oh but lets not forget the rest of the offense that just got hosed by a pitcher with a 6.80+ era. I’m shutting my windows and sliding glass doors so I don’t have to hear the fireworks from the stadium.
steelgolf - July 2, 2010
they just took series from the Cardinals and White Sox
this team can win games
sctrojan13 - July 2, 2010
They should not be winning games against the Angels
especially when we go into the 9th with a 1 run lead and their starting pitcher has the era that he has. Unacceptable.
steelgolf - July 2, 2010
5-3 in their last 8 series
They are playing well, if you expected a sweep then you need to re-adjust a bit. And this team loses all the time when only up by 1 going into the 9th, Fuentes is still the closer after all.
