think jumping off cliffs is the same as throwing pitches? In a count where the pitcher has an advantage, its not bad to throw balls. Throw the high fastball outside the zone for swing and miss, cutter down, curve in the dirt, inside to move the batter.

If that’s the case, if Mathis called for a under the leg knuckleball and Jepsen missed by an inch you’d blame Jepsen with your logic.
Mathis needs to know the only thing he can’t do in that situation is walk the batter, and a cutter is more likely to do that than a fastball. Maybe if he’s fouled off like 5 straight fastballs with good cuts you START to think about throwing something other than that 98 cheese in that situation.

First off, how do we know scioscia wasn't calling the pitches?
Second, yes, it would be Jepsen’s fault. The pitcher can shake off a pitch. If he throws crap he doesn’t have faith in, he’s no better than Kazmir.

OK, I have great seats for the August 5th game...
against Baltimore. I am in Delaware so I only get to see one maybe two live Angels games a year. I want to be in first or in contention (2 or less games behind by then.) So I am laying down the law…get it together guys!
