Angels Fail To Carry Ace Who Has Carried Them

The secret to Weaver's success: throwing sand in the opposing hitter's eyes. Unfortunately, most players wear glasses during day games.

Final Score in Oakland: A's 5, Angels 2

Bobby Abreu hit a home run. If you want something positive, there it is. You can stop reading now.

MLB strikeout leader and All-Star snub Jered Weaver had a tough luck start. He struck out 7 in 6 innings while walking only 1, but 5 of his 8 base runners came around to score. Two of those runs came on a homer by Jack Cust, the poor man's Adam Dunn, except that Cust doesn't hit home runs against anyone but the Angels these days. The other blow was a two-run, two-out, two-strike bloop single by Adam Rosales, the A's pipsqueak utility infielder. That's the kind of day it was for Jered.

Once again the Angels offense couldn't be bothered to wake up before noon and make it out to the ballpark before the game was out of reach. The flailing lineup totally crumpled against the competent if unspectacular Trevor Cahill, who made the All-Star team nonetheless. The Angels have now scored 2 runs or fewer in 9 of their last 11 games.

So the Angels won just one game this week. They produced just 13 runs in 7 games while their opponents scored 39. They failed to capitalize on a similarly pathetic performance by the Texas Rangers, who were swept at home in a four-game series against the worst team in the American League. They head into the All-Star Break 4.5 games out of first place with a 47-44 record, by far their worst first-half since 2006. You know what else they haven't done since 2006? Yes, I'm sure you do. You don't need me to remind you.

The Offense again, but pinpointing one player- that would be Napoli, who GIDP with the bases loaded and nobody out, extinguishing out best threat of the game.

Honorable mention to Howard, who stunk again.

Napoli...

Killed all momentum swinging 1st pitch, bases loaded no out. Blame

Napoli ... first pitch swinging... fail.

lame playing aside, at least the Rangers decided to bend over for the birds and gave me some renewed confidence that the division is still within easy reach.

Lame game.

Didn’t anyone answer Rev’s opening line of the game thread? “I’m so glad we had this time together,”
The next line is:

Just to have a laugh, or sing a song.

CONNNNNNNNNNGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

NOW

Conger is the twirly bat MASTAH
The problem with bringing up King Cong now is that

much like BWood, we’ll send him back down when one of our 3 catchers heats up and we will mentally destroy him.

you really think

one of OUR catchers is gonna heat up?

Conger isnt exactly lighting up the PCL offensively

which is kinda a big red indicator that he isn’t quite ready/

Love the HR in the futures game

And his time will come. But when he’s got only 5 HR in half a season in Salt Lake, Hank needs a little more time.

Which, with injuries, has been his problem all along

Young catcher syndrome.

Mathis, Jeff.

Another golden opportunity to gain ground on Texas gone to SHIT!

McAnaulty and Aldridge? WTF Scioscia?!?

We cant really destroy the development of players who have no future.

I would much rather not rush our better, blue chip like guys and use fatasses like McDonut for this lost season.

Look at it this way

We’ve lost 8 out of our last 10, playing against Oakland, Chicago, and KC.. Not exactly the Yankees. Since taking 2 out of 3 against Texas, we have played like absolute crap. And through it all, we’ve only lost a single game in the standings.

Things will get better.

Conger 3 run homer in the futures game.

Only HR of the game so far

did anyone notice how before the game they didnt even talk about Conger they were all over

Jennings and Hecklison

The fans and Joe G are both right . Nobody in this team

deserves to go to the All-game . Folks it’s the all-star game . Not the all CHOKERS-game .

My high school baseball team would always make fun of the soccer team for it being an activity, not a sport. Haha.

I played both

now coach both.
Baseball is a harder more complicated sport; soccer demands much more physical endurance and unlike most baseball players, you’ve got to be in top shape to compete against other good players.
Playing pool is a recreational activity; soccer is one of the most demanding sports there is.
Dude. ;)

I has a sad.

This stretch of crappy baseball has to end eventually.

for the Angels

not the Rangers. Never for the Rangers

Well, yeah. The season ends in September.
Jesus

Trout can fly. Just turned a solid single into a double.

Announcers were saying

that all the folks in the dugout were saying that trout was the fastest on the (USA) team. that’s pretty darn fast, and speed is something we (will) be needing.

Hank Conger gets Futures Game MVP

Nice

Congrats to Hank

Well deserved

FTFY
Once again the Angels offense couldn’t be bothered to wake up before midnight.

Missed it, but Naps is slumping bad consistantly with RISP.

Of course, I have seen him come out of it before. As we all know, he is a very streaky player.

Missed it = the game
Silly Halo Fans

Unspectacular Cahill? You must be watching a different pitcher, the kid is 9-3 and made the all-star team despite starting the first month of the season in AAA. Oh yah, I forgot to mention he’s only 22 and has already made the Angels look silly twice this year. I have a feelingyou will be seeing a lot of him the next few years.

i agree

with the troll. cahill has been beyond solid since he came up. been better than all but one of our pitchers. but i don’t agree that we’ll be seeing a lot of him because the a’s will trade him in a package for prospects in a year and a half.

Agreed about Cahill not being a lousy pitcher.

However, there are polite ways to say that. You didn’t have to troll it.
