Frustrations finally spilled over Sunday for the struggling Seattle Mariners, who saw both Chone Figgins and Don Wakamatsu ejected early in a 9-4 defeat (Video: Wakamatsu, Figgins ejected between innings), their third straight to the Los Angeles Angels to cap a lost weekend at Safeco Field. Figgins, fighting through the woes of a .220 start to his first season in Seattle, grounded out to end the second inning, took the field to begin the third and was waved over and ejected by home plate umpire Tim Timmons. Turns out Figgins had been upset by a questionable 3-1 strike call by Timmons and barked at the ump from first base as he was leaving the field.Spotted a 3-1 lead, Jason Vargas wasn't able to hold the line against the soaring Angels, who have now won eight of their last nine games to revive their own season at 31-28."It was a tough series," Figgins said. "You'd like to squeeze out a couple games, but they put it to us."

Gutierrez makes a clutch diving grab - Franklin Gutierrez makes a diving, shoestring grab in center, getting the Mariners out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam. Napoli nails a go-ahead two-run home run - Mike Napoli hits a clutch two-run home run, giving the Angels a 6-4 advantage in the top of the seventh inning.

The Los Angeles Angels have won five straight games overall and five in a row at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, and that's where starter Scott Kazmir is enjoying a 14-inning scoreless streak.Kazmir (4-5, 5.86 ERA) is 5-2 with a 1.99 ERA in his last seven starts at the Coliseum, and his 2.66 ERA there is his second-lowest ERA at any current ballpark. He didn't allow a run in winning two outings at Oakland last season. Ben Sheets (2-4, 5.00) will face the Angels for the second time this season. Sheets gave up three runs over six innings and did not get a decision in a 4-3 loss April 10. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in six home starts this year. Angels manager Mike Scioscia will rejoin the club after missing the last two games due to his daughter's high school graduation.

3B Brandon Wood went hitless in four at-bats again Sunday and is now batting just .083 (2-for-24) in the first six games of his minor league injury rehabilitation assignment with Class AAA Salt Lake. Wood is eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday.
49 - Runs scored by the Angels in the first seven games following 1B Kendry Morales' broken ankle. Morales led the team in average (.290), home runs (11) and RBI (39) at the time of his injury but the Angels were averaging only 4.35 runs per game.

I think I'm only excited by the draft when we have first round picks.
It’s kind of hard to get worked up when you don’t pick early. Seriously, " hell yeah we’re picking 62nd." is not nearly as sexy “damn right we’re picking 18th. And we didn’t have to suck to get that pick either.”

1975 Draft-Danny Goodwin
I was looking at some commentary on this year’s draft and they were discussing how Bryce Harper was going to be selected first.
If you look at catchers who were selected first overall, you will find Joe Mauer, and you will also find the immortal Danny Goodwin. He was drafted by the Angels first overall in 1975. By any measure, the guy would have to be considered a bust. Although, he was drafted as a catcher, he only played first and DH’d some when he came up. Danny Goodwin was apparently such a hot prospect that he was drafted first overall twice (The only occasion this happened)—the first time in 1971 by the White Sox out of Peoria High School and the second time by the Angels in 1975 out of Southern University.

Or does Kendrick hit more line drives that get caught than any other player in the majors? I feel like Howie has been lining out twice a game for the last month.

Why more perfect games?
Fewer PEDs. I think that’s a huge factor at least this year. The game is balancing out again.
