Dejected -- and ejected -- Mariners swept by Angels - Seattlepi.com
Frustrations finally spilled over Sunday for the struggling Seattle Mariners, who saw both Chone Figgins and Don Wakamatsu ejected early in a 9-4 defeat (Video: Wakamatsu, Figgins ejected between innings), their third straight to the Los Angeles Angels to cap a lost weekend at Safeco Field. Figgins, fighting through the woes of a .220 start to his first season in Seattle, grounded out to end the second inning, took the field to begin the third and was waved over and ejected by home plate umpire Tim Timmons. Turns out Figgins had been upset by a questionable 3-1 strike call by Timmons and barked at the ump from first base as he was leaving the field.Spotted a 3-1 lead, Jason Vargas wasn't able to hold the line against the soaring Angels, who have now won eight of their last nine games to revive their own season at 31-28."It was a tough series," Figgins said. "You'd like to squeeze out a couple games, but they put it to us."
Video highlights: Kendrick cracks an RBI triple in the gap - Howard Kendrick drives the ball into the gap in right, plating Erick Aybar and winding up on third base with an RBI triple. Quinlan makes a grab in foul territory - Robb Quinlan makes a great catch in foul territory, retiring Josh Wilson in the bottom of the fourth. Gutierrez makes a clutch diving grab - Franklin Gutierrez makes a diving, shoestring grab in center, getting the Mariners out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam. Napoli nails a go-ahead two-run home run - Mike Napoli hits a clutch two-run home run, giving the Angels a 6-4 advantage in the top of the seventh inning.

Draft Preview: Angels armed and ready | angelsbaseball.com: News
Having beefed up their outfield while enhancing their pitching in last year's Draft, the Angels figure to go for athletes and arms again. They'd like to add more power. The Angels have a history of selecting high school players, both position players and pitchers. No players from the past three Drafts have reached the big leagues.
Scout.com: Draft Disasters: Top Ten Busts Since 1980
Baseball’s draft is far less predictable than its other professional counterparts. A first round selection is hardly a guarantee to perform at the premier level. Even with these lackluster expectations, there have been some disappointments. Tyson Qualls breaks down the top ten picks that have embarrassed management and made fools out of the scouting department.
Thankfully, there are no Angel blunders on this list, but there are some names that you may have complete forgotten about.

Quote To Note: "I wish we could figure out our offense." —Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke, on the way the team's offense has improved since the loss of its most dangerous hitter, 1B Kendry Morales.
Kendry? Kendry who? And what's up with Brandon Wood? .083? Yikes.
Why More Perfect Games?
Better defense?
Interesting chart, but there may be more to it than that.

I think I'm only excited by the draft when we have first round picks.
It’s kind of hard to get worked up when you don’t pick early. Seriously, " hell yeah we’re picking 62nd." is not nearly as sexy “damn right we’re picking 18th. And we didn’t have to suck to get that pick either.”

1975 Draft-Danny Goodwin
I was looking at some commentary on this year’s draft and they were discussing how Bryce Harper was going to be selected first.
If you look at catchers who were selected first overall, you will find Joe Mauer, and you will also find the immortal Danny Goodwin. He was drafted by the Angels first overall in 1975. By any measure, the guy would have to be considered a bust. Although, he was drafted as a catcher, he only played first and DH’d some when he came up. Danny Goodwin was apparently such a hot prospect that he was drafted first overall twice (The only occasion this happened)—the first time in 1971 by the White Sox out of Peoria High School and the second time by the Angels in 1975 out of Southern University.

I'm sure that Matt Welch could have illuminated on this since he sponsors Goodwin's page on Baseball Ref.

I have an unformed voodoo theory about the Angels' horrid track record in developing offensive catcher
But that will have to wait for another day.

What does Santana have to do with all of this?

How about the time we did and management refused to acknowledge it.
Or to be fair, they acknowledged it, then continued to play the inferior player.

Did Kendry go under the knife yet?
We should draft him a new fibula.

Is it just me?
Or does Kendrick hit more line drives that get caught than any other player in the majors? I feel like Howie has been lining out twice a game for the last month.
Gorbachav5 - June 7, 2010
According to BRef
His line drive rate is 20%, the highest of his career, and yet his BABiP is .288, by far the lowest of his career. Luck does not always favor the Angels, apparently.

Why more perfect games?
Fewer PEDs. I think that’s a huge factor at least this year. The game is balancing out again.
