You just have to realize that the only thing that makes any of us think you are a fan not a troll is the fact that you say you are a fan. Talking doom and gloom pre-all star break is ridiculous considering the team has been improving and are probably a couple internal adjustments and possibly one external one away from winning a division.

First I got chills, and then I got really sad because I miss him doing that for the Angels. I don’t think it was a dick move at all.

why didn’t he lose the weight a year before his contract year?

because the Rangers have been trying to convince him to go there when he became a free agent

for about 3-4 years. He knew they would sign him to a big contract either way. Short contract + “career resurgence” = big contract that will last until he’s 40.

The Phillies could, they did with Ibanez and their offense has struggled. I don’t even know if that would end up with him having more money than the other way around. I was just trying to think of something somewhat creative. The more likely reasons were that his injury was too bad or he never thought the Angels wouldn’t re-sign him.

He is owning us

well because our pitching sucks and he is out for revenge which actually makes a difference. Plus his home/away stats are not even close. His amazing, fantastic OPS at home this year is 1.039 which is actually below his career OPS there which is 1.114. On the road his OPS is .760 which is lower than his .878 last year.

His road split in this series is insane.

I find the comments about Vlad in this article distasteful and completely innappropriate for an Angels blog.

In my mind, Vlad will always be part of the family. Whether or not there is some truth to the statement that he wouldn’t have had the motivation to get in shape had he not been scorned, it shouldn’t be written in a front page article on the premier Angels website. He’s no John Lackey. Vlad wanted to be here.

This isn’t to say that this shouldn’t be a topic of conversation. To me, there should be a difference of what may be written by a fan in a fanpost versus an article of the site.

Or maybe I am just extra bitter in light of his performance the last two nights.

We are talking about an elite player here, not some average bozo. It should come as NO surprise to anyone that a man of Vlad’s abilities, talent and drive was able to overcome his injuries and make the necessary adjustments to continue playing at a high level. And I gotta disagree that he wouldn’t have put as much work into getting back in shape had he stayed. Elite players never say die until age finally forces them to give up. And I know there’s not a single person here would say Vladimir Guerrero is NOT an elite player.

but it seems to me that if Vlad had wanted to be here, he would have taken the conditions he ended up taking from the Rangers, and he still would be here. I distinctly recall the Angels being willing to re-sign him as a mostly full-time DH with no particular promise of any time in the field, and I just as distinctly recall Vlad rejecting these terms. If I’m wrong, please enlighten me.

It's true.

But that was more towards the beginning of free agency. When Vlad voiced his displeasure with that particular situation, the Angels moved on and signed Matsui. As the offseason wore on and Vlad realized he wasn’t going to get what he wanted from anybody, he decided to accept what was there. Unfortunately, we already had Matsui signed, so he didn’t really have any other choice..

and not be strictly a D.H. Matsui even commented on it before the season how he was looking forward to playing in the outfield. Matsui played a couple of good games last year for the Yankees where he was the hero of the W.S. after being on the D.L. and the Angels F.O. went all love struck in signing him. The fact that the Yankees were not really even offering him anything apparently never caused them to question why he was so easy to get. I know, iknow, I’ve heard the “its marketing genius” argument. Great, the Japanese press gets to show up and report on how Matsui sucks on the Angels.

All of them left right over the plate, the two of them tonight down in the zone, right where he likes it. You just get some, so you move on and bring on a ridiculously hot chick because you have MOJO and money. She is amazing and brings you to levels you could have only dreamed of. Except just before it culminates in something fantastic, she comes down with the sniffles and then has to see her parents and then she gets called in for over time. All things you feel like could have been avoided, but at the same time they are mostly out of her control. Finally, after never scoring and her looks deteriorating, you decide to move on. This guy at work got lucky with this girl who is attractive, and knows what she is doing (Matsui) so you decide to give her a shot. She’s not the quality you want, but you are running out of prime years. As things are moving along, you see the guy you supervise directly with your old girl and she is looking almost as good as she used to. She got plastic surgery and a makeover and you think "damn I messed up ". The guy she is with now has been gunning for your job in years, and now things he can take it. You look at your girl, then his, then back at yours and are disappointed. Then you remember why you brought the new girl in, look at your employee and say “I’m glad things are going so well for you, but I’ll see you in a couple months and then we will talk”.

Sorry, I’m just really energetic and not in the mood to deal with what I should be doing. That was a fun write-up though
