Final Score in Kansas City: Angels 5, Royals 4...

A late insurance run in the top of the 9th proved to be the difference as gutless closer Brian Fuentes surrendered a leadoff walk to Jose Guillen and then gave up a 1-out HR to ... okay are you ready for this... Willie Bloomquist. Gutless. Also on the chopping block is Kevin Jepsen who got into trouble with, surprise, a leadoff walk. Fernando Rodney had to relieve Jesepn in the bottom of the 8th and got a double play with one pitch, courtesy of a great stop at 2B by Kevin Frandsen and a nice toss to Robb Quinlan by Howie Kendrick, getting taken out with a slide at 2B but still nailing Billy Butler in his powder blue waddle towards 1B.

Banish Fuentes
LOOGY or bust.

thanks for catching that
Rev Halofan - June 3, 2010
Obviously Morales was keeping us down
PhiSlamma - June 3, 2010
Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that, but you're right!
~MMP~ - June 3, 2010
Not necessarily true.
With Morales going down, everyone all of a sudden woke up and realized that they have to get their crap together.
Kinda like a when a kid in school cheats off of the smart kid and then all of a sudden the smart kid moves away, so kid number one realizes “F@#k, i’m going to fail if I don’t start doing stuff on my own”
Then the bully of the class (Fuentes), jacks his homework and makes a paper plane out of it only to fly it out of the class window.
Sorry, i’m bored at work…lol
maze88 - June 3, 2010
How could you question the notion that we are a better team without Morales?
We a are 4-1 since his injury. You can’t argue with those results.
Kendry obviously was an albatross. We should DFA him now. Get him off this team and let someone else pick up the tab for medical bills and rehab.

Hahaha--me too brother!
That’s ok, we’re in the Top 25 now at least, or close to it.
It’s more like: we may not be one of the five Kenyans way out in front during a Marathon, but at least we are in the top 25 out of 200, though we’re in like the third pack waaaaay behind.
Raaddad - June 3, 2010
I though my 5 million point bet would keep me even with de anaheim but he put it out there. I guess I would have been better off if there had been 3 hr in todays game

I am waiting for in a few short weeks when the totals are too large to fit the width of the page.
Then what is scottnak going to do?
44FAN - June 3, 2010
Great point, your Gun-ness: "I bet 100000000000000000 points on no triples"
I think we should have a cap like one billion maybe and whoever gets there first wins the first round.
Then we start over going for 1 billion (or 1 million) again.
Otherwise it will just get ridiculous like you suggest.
Maybe 3 or 4 rounds of Pregame picks games; each one with a definite limit—either points or possibly a time limit (3 months, etc.)
Raaddad - June 3, 2010
Table limits
If this is truly some sort of casino-like experiment then betting limits will be the next adjustment on this pregame picks game.

oh yeah here’s 30 seconds of the NHL finals and now back to staring at the “how many days until Lebron is a FA.” HOLY SHIT! THIS JUST IN! LeBron says and I quote “Cleveland has an edge.” Well let’s ask our “NBA experts” on what this means for the Cavs.

SenorChuckles - June 3, 2010
Lebron is done with Cleveland
No matter what Lebron says now, he’s going to the highest bidder
Quad Fin Rider - June 3, 2010
Cleveland IS the highest bidder.
bc56274 - June 3, 2010
The highest of WHAT bids?
Lebron is not a free agent yet.
Quad Fin Rider - June 3, 2010
Cleveland
WILL be the highest bidder. Per the NBA collective bargaining agreement. Cleveland can offer more than anyone else (I think by offering one more year; I forget the details). The point being, the player’s current team is given a leg up on all other bidders.
jjackflash - June 4, 2010
there are ways around that
like agreeing to a short-term contract with a new team and then resigning for the big contract afterwards or by setting up a sign-and-trade agreement with his current team and the team he wants to go to.
Quad Fin Rider - June 4, 2010
Could Cleveland really do a sign and trade?
I mean logistically, sure. But wouldn’t the team’s management get lynched by the fans, regardless of who they got, and regardless of whether LeBron had refused to resign?
I’m not a huge fan of the basketball pay system. What parity has it brought to the league when you have Boston and LA showing up in the finals all the time anyway?
AlanFalcon - June 4, 2010
Well
In the former scenario, he’s not getting more money NOW from the new club. And suppose his knee exploded or his back fell apart; he might not get the super mega contract after. In the latter scenario, he is still signing with Cleveland. In other words, no other team can offer more than the Cavaliers.
jjackflash - June 4, 2010
Hopefully he puts that money towards more tattoos.

Somebody please give me a quick tutorial:
Weaver was ahead by four runs when he left the game………the Angels’ winning run was scored while Rodney was the pitcher of record.
I’m glad Weaver won, but why did Rodney not get the win?
wumbug - June 3, 2010
The Angels held the lead they had when Weaver left.
~MMP~ - June 3, 2010
You mean,
had KC tied the game at 4 before the Angels scored the 5th run, Weaver would not have won, right?
wumbug - June 3, 2010
Correct
~MMP~ - June 3, 2010
I was holding my breath, worrying about Weave's win when they scored 4.

thetooth - June 4, 2010
didn't anyone catch what the home plate ump did??
When he got in the face of the KC catcher? He actually stepped out around the plate and got in his face while he was still crouched down. WTF? These f-ing umps are getting out of hand and if they continue to do such a shitty job, they will be replaced by technology. Just saying….but it is coming.
HaloMachismo - June 3, 2010
He's the youngest umpire in the league...
…I don’t think he’s making a great impression.
AlanFalcon - June 3, 2010
Yeah, that was messed up.
And Kendall was being very professional about his complaining. Never took off his mask, never faced the ump, and stayed in a crouch (which, I’m sure, body language analysts would say “indicates an act of submission to authority” or some crap).
Rally Manatee - June 3, 2010
Some things you can't say to an umps face.
Kendall probably said one of those things, and the ump was challenging him to say it to his face. There has to be a lot of tension on the boys in blue these days, and it seems the young one can’t handle it.
eyespy - June 3, 2010
Handle it or quit.
I’ve seen LL umps handle it better than that. Seriously, there was this guy named Brian that used to ump my brothers and my Pony League games. One time, this kid was livid, in his face, yelling about how he didn’t swing on a check swing, and Brian the Ump said in a totally calm voice, “Kid, you tried real hard, but you still stink.” It was hilarious, and my family still quotes it to this day.
Rally Manatee - June 4, 2010
Is this bullpen for real?
Or are we being punk’d? I’m being serious. Fuentes, do you just hate your job or something?
Teixeira Who? - June 3, 2010
They sit it the bullpen reading HH on their Iphone's
“When you get called to go in by John, make sure you mess with these douche’s heads.”
eyespy - June 3, 2010
Let's not get too distracted with the Fuentes hate.
We still won, and have gotten back to .500. Everyone take a sip of your Soth-ade and repeat after him, “One game at a time. One game at a time.”
I did like that Sosh got Frankie2.0 up in the pen while Foo Foo was stinkin it up. That’s at least the second time I’ve seen that happen. Sosh has changed in that regard. In previous years, he was ALWAYS do-or-die with the closers. Then again, that was with Percy or K-Rod, not Foo Foo. But in K-Rod’s last season, there were some games where I was infuriated with Sosh because Frankie obviously didn’t have his best stuff, and yet Sosh refused to take him out. So, it’s nice to see that at least Sosh is threatening to bring the hook, and not living and dying by the “roles” these ass-clowns in our pen have been assigned.
Rally Manatee - June 3, 2010
Sorry, but in this case it is deserved.
It is broke, fix it. Get that pen all shook up and have them be responsible for their acts on the field. Have them take the blame as a whole for any mistake any other makes on the field. Make them call their own fouls, and then fix them.
eyespy - June 3, 2010
Sosh is obviously
just using Fuentes before the ASG just to not tire Rodney’s arm out. Then once in late Aug.-Oct. Sosh is gonna use Rodney to keep dominating hitters. We all see what Rodney can do in his natural spot, as a closer. In 5 tries, he saves 5 times while the opponent got only 1 hit off him, also no walks.
phoenix15 - June 3, 2010
Brian was thinking that since he's an Angel he'll never have to play in the ASG
so he already made plans for that week, and doesn’t want to cancel them. He’s playing like shit during the first half to guarantee that he won’t be picked, but will pick it up in the week after that game.
eyespy - June 3, 2010
