Dodgers announcer Vin Scully is the unparalleled icon of sports broadcasting.
Like Fellini, he gave Jeff Biggs and Jason Brennan of AM-830 8-1/2 minutes yesterday on the Angels pregame show and, as the master is prone to do, packed in more information in that time than another interview subject would give you in an hour. In the audio link below, he speaks about sharing the Angel Stadium All-Star Game microphone in 1989 with Ronald Reagan, recalls Orlando Cabrera punking the Dodgers with a steal of home and waxes reverently about the untimely passings of Rory Markas and Jose Lima.
To feed an Angels fan hunger, Vin indulges us with his list of the three biggest mistakes in Dodgers history:

Vladdy as a Dodger.
Can you imagine Vladdywood?
Teixeira Who? - June 23, 2010
Vladdy terrorizing the Giants
kind of sounds fun.
Slyintine - June 23, 2010
It does.
opiejeanne - June 23, 2010
True.
But Vladdy terrorizing Texas was much more fun.
Teixeira Who? - June 23, 2010
Horrific, really
But I think it’s more appropriate that Dodger fans idolize a juiced-up sociopath whose hair looks like something that came out of my ass.
Zoe Necrosis - June 23, 2010
Oh Gawd, thats funny!
I cant stop laughing, great comment! :)
TSamn15 - June 23, 2010
Damn
Rec’d for making me laugh out loud.

No brainer ...
Mike Scioscia is an amazing manager. We should be thankful that the Dodgers let him go.

What was up with the initial discussion of the "long" flight from Boston...
affecting the Dodgers in this series? Uh, they had Monday off entirely. I have travelled to Asia and had to head straight to work right after the 24 hours of travelling. Not sure I understand that concern going into this series.

What's Vin short for?
Vincent? Vehicle identification number?
Match Day 5 - June 23, 2010
Aww c'mon...
he’s named after Vin Diesel, of course!
Downing Rules - June 23, 2010
I think that picture of Vin..
is from when he was singing his version of Dio’s song “The Last In Line”.
Doctor Wu - June 23, 2010
To quote the epic "Unforgivable" youtube video series
“Bitch, that’s a mistake!”

The best
Vin Scully is the only opposing announcer that I listen to on Gameday Audio (he usually does a few innings on the radio). He honors the Angels, knows a lot about them and respects them. He provides nuances in his descriptions of the game that are amazing and these nuances are missing from contemporary play by play announcers. He effortlessly describes the pitcher’s or hitter’s expressions, movements, etc.
In Idaho, in the 1970s, we used to get Dodger games on the radio on Sundays and Vin was the best thing about listening to those games then. He is as good today as he was then over 30 years ago. Thanks for posting the interview.

Vin Scully the unparalleled icon, YES
I’ve been an Angels fan and a Dodger hater almost all my life. But there is no finer announcer than the great Vin Scully. Recently saw the postgame interview of Vin Scully with Sandy Koufax after Game 7 of the 1965 World Series, just riveting. Two of the classiest men in baseball in my lifetime. But still hate the Dodgers and our four straight wins against them is just about the best thing about this season so far.

I agree Vin is by far the best announcer of all time, and as far as los doyers go, i will root for them to a degree, but i am an Angels fan FIRST AND ALWAYS. I think i would like the doyers franchise better if their fanbase wasn’t the MLB version of Raider fan
peteyweestro - June 23, 2010
No, Vin is the best BASEBALL announcer of all time
Though Red Barber gives him a run for his money.
The best sports announcer of all time is… CHICK HEARN.

I loved Hearn so much
He was like your crazy uncle that your mom didn’t want you hanging around too much.
Teixeira Who? - June 24, 2010
I once heard an apocryphal story about Hearn...
This was in the Jack Kent Cooke days.
The Lakers had stunk it up on the floor one night, and Hearn called it as he saw it. Cooke allegedly called him up to his office and asked why he had ripped the team. Chick answered, “Did you see the game last night?” Cooke never hassled him again.
