Final Score in Wrigley Field of Chicago: Angels 12, Cubs 0

Angels ace Jered Weaver struck out eleven Cubs to take the lead in strikeouts among all pitchers in baseball with 107 Ks recorded in 2010. He allowed 2 hits in 7 IP and walked none, throwing 109 pitches in the process.
Meanwhile, the Angels crushed Ted Lilly and the Cubs with a 12-0 blowout. The big blow was a bases clearing 3-run double by Juan Rivera in the 1st inning after Howie Kendrick put the Wrigley fans on notice that this would not be a Lilly No-Hit bid, nor shutout start... Howie cracked a leadoff HR to get things going and the Angels never looked back. Bibby Abreu pitched in with 4 hits and a BB, Torii Hunter hit a 2-Run HR in the 5th inning.
Weaver could do no wrong today, doinking a 2-out single to keep the 7th inning alive and scoring a run in the 6th after reaching on a Lilly throwing error.

You make the Cubbies look like…
They’re smoking weed…

Imma vote for Weave
but Howie deserves a spot up there.
Figgi4life - June 19, 2010
Bobby Abreu
4 for 5 is pretty insane.
Slyintine - June 19, 2010
Should have been 5 for 5
It sure looked like he beat out that play at first. Another bad call by th ups robbed Bobby of an infield single.
kbrown2225 - June 19, 2010
Hard to pick just one panther. Howie, Jared, Bobby, Juan, Torii all came through...
Halo84653 - June 19, 2010
Where is the Cubs defense
for POTG?
ryanfea - June 19, 2010
Even Better News:
12-0 means we actually won like 4 games just now in the pythag-dimension.
ihearhowie2.0 - June 19, 2010
Someone should tell the Rangers
I was just about to say the same. Then again, that would mean we actually lost the World Series in that game we got blown out in…maybe we’ll keep this a secret?
Commander_Nate - June 19, 2010
Cubbie Rape!
Cub rape!
Cub rape!
Angels improve to 9-2 in Saturday games — bet on it!
blast21dave - June 19, 2010
Not to be an ice-water thrower, but
rape as a joke makes some of us uncomfortable, especially if we’ve been close to a rape victim or worse.

Out of line on my part
I am embarrassed and deeply apologize to anyone who was offended or bothered by my poor choice of words.

Thanks,
I understand getting carried away. I do so frequently, and once in a while with spectacularly awful results.
opiejeanne - June 19, 2010
This is certainly one of those times
where it was a spectacularly awful result. Thank you for calling me out on that.

Weaver was great.
PotG. Pretty much everyone played well today though.
Other stuff:
-Watching the Dodgers-Red Sox right now and the Dodgers inexplicably have a sleeve patch for their 1955 (Brooklyn) World Championship. Um, why?
-Atlanta has the best record in the NL. What?
Robviously - June 19, 2010
Doyer patch
55 years since their 1st world title win in 1955
blast21dave - June 19, 2010
???
Who the hell celebrates the 55 year anniversary of a championship that was won 3000 miles away?
The Dodgers are a bunch of weirdos.
Robviously - June 19, 2010
Atlanta has arguably the best rotation in the NL right now
And they have a solid lineup led by Jason Heyward, Brian McCann, Troy Glaus, Martin Prado.
Slyintine - June 19, 2010
where our bitches at?
in chicago
DAD OF VLAD - June 19, 2010
Weaver FTW!
I love how dominant Weaver has been this year, and I love even more that he’s decided to become a strikeout pitcher, without really increasing his velocity. He’s matured BIG TIME every year he’s been in the league.
Also – Woody with 2 singles and a RBI… this is good. Looked bad a few times on the K’s, but hits and RBIs are good.
howiestheman - June 19, 2010
I personally prefer him k
Then be a rally kill with double plays.
halofan4life - June 19, 2010 via mobile
If there's one positive...
… from Adenhart’s death, it’s that it shook Weaver to his core and made him appreciate where he’s at. Not that Weaver wasn’t good before, but it made him mature faster than he otherwise might have.

No
You suck because your coach is a weasel and the players he (and his predecessor) recruited aren’t very good.
Gorbachav5 - June 19, 2010
Not entirely (too OT to go into and not the right forum)
But it’s understandable you’d be slightly angry at this point with Oregon football.

I think I have to side with Dad on this one. As a BYU Alumni and fan, I do remember a game back in 08 that I went to where
BYU beat down a Pac 10 school 59-0, and it wasn’t USC. :)
Halo84653 - June 19, 2010
How's your new AQ conference treating you?
:)
linkbruin - June 19, 2010
That's a sour subject right now. But good luck with Utah and Colorado...
I am not sure what the reasoning of the PAC 10 was, but Colorado is a pro sports town (not to mention that Colorado’s sports programs suck big time)—no one there really cares about College Football and BYU owns the Utah TV market. Utah’s basketball program is going down hill faster than their ski team and their football program success over the past few years is a fluke—usually they have trouble selling out their puny football stadium and at the BYU/Utah Basketball game at Utah this year, there were more BYU fans than Utah fans there. Overall, looking at all sports, BYU’s sports programs is one of the best in the country. Utah thrives in women’s gymnastics. BYU has a national championship and a Heisman winner in football, Utah doesn’t.
Although Utah is a great research school, especially in medicine, their undergraduate program doesn’t hold a candle to BYU. You need about a 3.8 HS GPA to get into BYU and about a 2.8 to get into Utah. BYU also has a much better law school and graduate business school.
The PAC 10 would have been much better off with BYU instead of Utah but I guess the Sunday play and religious bigotry thing got in the way. Oh well, with Utah and Colorado in the mix, and the addition of Boise to the MWC, I suppose that the MWC will continue to have its way with most of the PAC 10 like it has in recent years.
Halo84653 - June 20, 2010
lol there arent many teams that "follow" the rules.

Brandon Wood had two hits.
This rare feat deserves player of the game.
bc56274 - June 19, 2010
And one was actually well hit
Not a cheap bloop or grounder barely out of the fielder’s reach.
It was a line drive to left center.
Slyintine - June 19, 2010
with associated RBI for bonus pointage...
;)
K3YEROUT - June 19, 2010
thumpage.........
norcaliangelsfan - June 19, 2010
The Rangers should to be putting some distance between themselves and the Angels right now.
Texas is playing a comically easy schedule in June – easiest in the league – but the Angels are not cooperating at all.
…
I love it.
LAASurfin - June 19, 2010
Howie for the leadoff HR and starting this circus off the right way...
The biggest problem I see with this team right now is the lack of a leadoff hitter and Howie really jump started things today!
But I voted for Weave of course! :)
K3YEROUT - June 19, 2010
Ohhh, and don't forget...
…the 2 perfect IP by Shields. That is a RARE event, not only for him, but for our entire bullpen this season!
K3YEROUT - June 19, 2010
He has pitched well in at least one other outing recently.
I hope he keeps it up and goes back to being the Good Shieldsy.
opiejeanne - June 19, 2010
Yay for Shields!
Huzzah! I hope this is the start of good things.
Gorbachav5 - June 19, 2010
Hey scottnak. You need wider column widths on your results spreadsheet. I'm up to nine figures and you can't see the last number.
Halo84653 - June 19, 2010
last digit is a 5
braggard :)
blast21dave - June 19, 2010
To be honest, this past week for me, the only good thing was the Angeles wins and my picks. I got to make the most of it. :)
Halo84653 - June 19, 2010
I'm going through a bad stretch myself
so I know how that goes. Hang in there man. It sounds cliche but it does get better and I’m learning that as I take it one day at a time.

Halo84653 - June 19, 2010
You go girl.
44FAN - June 19, 2010
Great production out of our entire lineup today. That's great to see.
I think Naps was hit less, but on those days, when the rest of your lineup can pick you up, great things happen. Like 12-0 routs. :)
RexTookMyStash - June 19, 2010
"Great production out of our entire lineup today. That's great to see."
I know! It’s a rare feat when everyone who plays win points!!!
Figgi4life - June 19, 2010 via mobile
Weaver even got a legitimate hit.
We were listening to Terry on the radio and he mentioned Weaver’s hit in his previous game against the Dodgers.
opiejeanne - June 19, 2010
Oh how I love interleague play
Joey Kaufman - June 19, 2010

didn’t know there was a USC SBN blog
Raaddad - June 19, 2010
Have we found a new leadoff hitter?
Raaddad - June 19, 2010
Didn't read the game thread, but...
did anyone else think that Shields was told not to swing when he batted in the 9th? I felt like he was going to get a hit the way things were going for the Halos. That would not have been cool having your pitcher get a hit and RBI in a 12-0 game. His bat didn’t move during the 3-pitch strikeout.
Downing Rules - June 19, 2010
yeah
thats how most of us in the game thread felt
ryanfea - June 19, 2010
It seemed like it
linkbruin - June 19, 2010
Ya, that was probably it.
I half expected Shields to get a hit too.
~MMP~ - June 19, 2010
I just watched the re-broadcast of the game and it was rather obvious they told Shields not to swing.
44FAN - June 19, 2010
Oh F Yah
Didn’t get to watch the game. Was hanging with the fam at Legoland aka: Lame-O-Land, enjoying normal cooool ocean air, but now that I’m checkin in and reading the good news, my day now has had it’s icing on the cake.
Dono Romantico - June 19, 2010

Now THAT’s funny
Did you see the talking parrots show?
Raaddad - June 19, 2010
