Final Score in Echo Park: Angels 10, Dodgers 1

Star-divide

Crazy, but that's how it goes... Former National Leaguer Joel Pineiro showed how a pitcher batting can be of assistance to an offense, getting on base and scoring three times without his bat putting a ball into play even once. Oh and then there was his performance on the mound, which was a superb complete game effort. Only a James Loney homerun... which cleared the 375-ft away RF wall by a millimeter... that was the only hit of the 5 he allowed that hurt him, and how much can it hurt a guy when Joe Torre replaces any human being, let alone Chad Billingsley, with George Sherrill, possibly making his last major league appearance after looking as terrible as a human being with an intact face and limbs can manage. Sherrill walked Bobby Abreu with the bases loaded, failing the lefty-lefty matchup for which he was called in.

With no DH, the Angels benched Juan Rivera and started Hideki Matsui in Left Field. He hit a bases-loaded double in the 5th inning to break a 1-1 tie. Torii Hunter followed suit an inning later with his own bases clearing double. Later on as the crowd thinned out, Howie Kendrick was about to do the same, but the ball went over the wall and there was only one runner on. He settled for 2 ribbys.

For some reason, the Dodgers had Ozzy Osbourne come onto the field and encourage the crowd to scream loud. I was there and it was loud. It broke the record for the loudest scream by a crowd. Guinness Book folks certified it. Many Angels fans were at the game, as was I, wearing my 2010 All Star cap, but others had the cojones to wear the red. If any of them were at the Anaheim snuggie night in April, hey, they broke two world records in one season. I just plugged my ears. speaking of records, it was the first time an Angels pitcher scored 3 runs in a major league game since Ken McBride did it for the then-DH-free Halos back in 1962.

Joel Panther.............

Scored 3 times as many runs as the boys in blue…………

I think it's simple

If the Pinata gets on base, he scores. FOR GODS’ SAKE…PUT THE PINATA ON BASE!!!!

LOL / Nice Chris Farley-esque approach
Pineiro has said he is the one rotation pitcher that looks good batting.

Vin Scully was beside himself about Joel getting on base and scoring that much.

Sherrill must have gotten hit with the ugly stick or something. Even Randy Johnson looks good compared to him.

Nitpick...

The solo shot by Loney the Doyer cleared Right Field (not LF) and the markings in RF state 375-ft

thanks – fixed.

watched the scully broadcast again tonight

my filipina wife asked for the second (or third?) year in a row; " why are you listening to this boring guy?"
she also asked why she hasn’t heard rex for a while
she learned the game that’s not that big-a-deal on her island for me (or maybe for tim salmon, a story for another time) so i give her a pardon for not caring about a local legend.
.
a wonderful drubbing of our northern breatheren by the way

i have cojones

i was wearing my angels jersey in pavilion no just kidding i was wearing it but i was in field level

glad you made it out alive.
field level

me too – nice box seat – lotsa red representing, man did ths one guy grumble about my hat … later he was whining miserably about George Sherril and left early…

man did ths one guy grumble about my hat

did you tell him it was your Vladimir Shpunt rally deflector?

I felt sorry for him, really, he was so crabby most of the game that he started blaming his dad sitting there with him for being a bad luck charm.

Aw, that's not right.

Poor Dad.

I wore my Morales shirt

I was honestly a little scared… I guess MS 13 had a gang meeting tonight or something…

The Doyer fans were really quiet where I was sitting, no heckling or shouting at me… haha not as bad as that Celtics fan up in the nosebleeds.

I was up in that section too last night

hardly any heckling from doyer fans last night of course Im with my dodger-fan girlfriend so i get a pass some nights…I had lots of fun starting the Boston-sucks chant to that idiot wearing the Rondo shirt.

Last Halos pitcher with 3 runs in a game was Ken McBride on June 10, 1962

McBride had 3 hits in 4 AB, including an RBI double in 14-6 win over the Kansas City Athletics.

thanks

it helps if the angels kick ass and give the dodger fans nothing to talk crap about

Another nitpick

Chavez Latrine is in Elysian Park.

that one was dig on purpose

f’k em.

Ha!

A co-worker today was telling me how much he hates the Dodgers from living in a shithole area with a bunch of Dodger fans, and I asked if he was in Echo Park.

I guess that’s why places like it exist…because we all need somewhere else to laugh at.

There are million dollar homes in Echo Park believe it or not.
that's just the cost of the security system
Echo Park is great

I lived nearby in Silver Lake; I’ll take that whole area over 90% of the Southland.

Did Victor honestly say that...

I just watched the little video recaps on the Angels website… I’m down for the Jimmy-Jacks… but “OPPO-TACO”…

Come on Victor….

http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8922247&c_id=ana&topic_id=8878992

He's been saying that since the beginning of the year

it’s not news.

Yeah, that one’s pretty terrible. I don’t mind jimmy jack, but oppo taco? What the heck?

makes me hungry
Wrong is wrong...

…and “Oppo Taco” is wrong.

I've watched the majority of the games on TV this year...

I’ve never heard “Oppo-Taco”.

I want it to die however.

I want "Jimmy Jack" to die FOREVER.

(just my opinion)

Regardless...

Oppo-Taco is taking it too far…. just too far…

On the other hand, Vin Scully looked surprisingly more alive than Larry King did tonight.

The reply button is your friend
The stats for Lackey and Pineiro are up

after yesterday’s games.

yikes, Lackey can't strike anyone out anymore.

that doesn’t bode well for his future

I really would have never guessed the strikeouts
Ya, he's been worse at just about everything this year
Well, hell!.................

If anybody’s interested, here’s the rest of the guys as of yesterday (Friday).

It keeps updating each morning after...........
Seriously, oppo taco needs to die

please go away you god forsaken taco

Setback for Mathis...

I was at graduation last night so I was out of the loop…did everyone catch this (no pun intended):

LOS ANGELES — The Angels’ Jeff Mathis has had a setback in his hopes of rejoining the club this weekend for the Interleague series against the Dodgers.

Mathis, catching for Triple-A Salt Lake, had his right hand get in the way of a ball in the dirt on Thursday. He was catching his stride with the bat and behind the plate in his rehab from an April 19 fracture of the right wrist on a similar pitch in the dirt against the Tigers at Dodger Stadium.

Mathis will be evaluated on Saturday, according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia, and it remains a possibility that he’ll be with the team at home when it faces the Brewers in a three-game series starting on Monday night.

Mathis was playing in his 10th game when he injured the wrist and was off to the best start of his career, batting .324 with a .500 slugging percentage.

“It’s really a freak thing that he would get hit there a number of times, but he has,” Scioscia said.

Mathis sometimes exposes his right hand when it should be protected by the glove on pitches in the dirt.

LINKIE

Maybe Mathis should use two gloves when catching.
Sounds like this was another ball in the dirt he was trying with both hands to smother...

I have noticed that both Mathis and Naps do not hold their right hand behind their backs on delivery of the pitch. Seems like this just opens you up to foul tips etc…that ball in the dirt is just bad luck! :(

I was there last night

Wearing my Guerrero jersey (I know, I haven’t had a chance to update it yet) and my girlfriend wearing Halo red. There were a lot of us there, nothing like 4-5 years ago when I found one other dude wearing the good colors. Dodger fans had nothing to say to us. It was sweet and silent. And I will never take an Angel brat for granted again-the 20 minute wait for a lousy Dodger dog was unreal!

I think Victor ad-libbed "oppo taco" when someone hit an opposite field HR...

…at Angel stadium and hit the taco sign by the bullpen. Matsui maybe. It was funny the first time.

I'll be sitting in the Infield Reserve almost directly above home plate

is it safe there to be decked out in Halo gear?

Me thinks

You should be ok. Top deck, however, is another story….

Will be in Infield Loge Box

3rd base side, sporting the old school 80’s Halos hat

Not Sure....

but I believe during the broadcast they said that the record for the longest scream was broken, but not the loudest.
