Final Score in 10 innings at Safeco Field: Angels 4, Mariners 3 ... Hideki Matsui broke a 3-3 tie with his 1,500th major league RBI and the Brian Fuentes picked up his 4th save of the season as the Angels beat the Mariners for the second game in a row. Fernando Rodney was the winner, starter Joe Saunders allowed 3 ER in 5 and 2/3 IP and Kendry Morales hit his 7th HR of the season.
I was at a party tonight and missed most of the game so here is a recap selected from the 1,421 comments from the game thread and GT2 comments – you who wrote these quotes know who you are…

I miss Figgy Anyone else? I miss them both. But Rex is coming back - Figgy isn't. Saunders K. That little alcove thing is stupid. more stupd than the green monster? NICE TORIIIIIIIIII
O nice--did he make that look easy or what? This Fister guy is a master at weak contact.
FRANDSEN ON BASE!! I have been trying to fix my @#%$# glasses...who is Frandsen?? Guy braugt up when Izturis went to DL today. Sandoval is also hurt so we got Frandsen. Mariners may have 2 guys batting above .300, but we have a guy batting 1.000! KOWBELL GOES DEEP! Ball was crushed Oh that's a GREAT play by Aybar. 82-80 Lakers, end of 3rd. Are the Angels finally turning the corner or are the Mariners just that bad? Geez...........It's only 1-0. The Angels turn the corner when.... Aybar's OBP is over .350, Rivera starts hitting, Kazmir figures out his slider, Shields returns to form and Bulger stops giving up the long ball. For now, it's just that the M's are that bad.
Frandsen still batting 1.000. Time for Hula Dula the Mariner Rulah! come on Torii... no need to swing for the moon, just put the ball in play and get some runs in.. HULA DULA!!!!! RBI Single!!!! Nice job Torii
Nice play by Frandsen, even if it did pull Kendry off the bag. This is really the only trouble he has been in this game. 2 down. Juancho fail. Should have been a single. Rivera, WTF???? Mr. Suzuki has driven in two. Should have walked ichi-hole and pitched to figgins 106-103 Utah, 1:06. Well, would you look at that? A Safeco ad in Safeco Field! Who've thunk it?
Saunders Pitch Count: 84 after 5. Lakers Win 1111-110. 111 not 1111. Alright Joe Lets get through the sixth. Dear Joe home plate is down about 7 ft. O.K....NOW MIKEY...HE'S DONE. We'll soon find out that Saunders has arm problems. I hope so, otherwise he just sucks now MIKE.....get him outta there!!! NOOOOO NOT BULGER. Dear Gene Autry, Please intercede with the powers-that-be so that Bulger doesn't suck tonight.
Saunders sucks. Adjusted for quality of hitters faced, this game was worse than his Boston start. He can't get major league hitters out. He might do OK if they pitch him no more than an inning at a time, spotted against lefties.
Bulger is starting to look a little better out there. Here's an interesting stat: Saunders is actually throwing more strikes this year than last. But guys are swinging at him less. Where'd u find that? Fangraphs
What the heck Frandsen is 3 for 3. how many games did it take Wood to get 3 hits, 20? The whole pacific northwest is in love with Gutz... the way they talk about him, he's the next pujols. Is Bulger thinking these things out or just he just wing it? it's not the 8th yet so of course we can't bring rodney in. the chart showing Bulgers pitch location... looks like a drunken dartboard. Commercials for Pacific Northwest Casinos... Rival anything howards has produced in terms of cheesyness. anyone else really worried about Saunders? He's perfectly healthy, his stuff is as good as ever.....
He just can't locate at all. Last year when he was unhealthy he didn't have any offspeed pitches. There's no excuses, he just needs to spot his fastball and curveball. When he does, he's as good as anyone.
heat. nice job jep. how many walks is that? C'mon Jep! nice K. PsyKo gets out of it. Reggie in for Juancho REGGIE REGGIE REGGIE. Mike Ryan PH for Napoli. And a single. Reggie to 3B. 4 for 4 would be perfect. nope you jinxed it. Erstad would have MOWED DOWN the catcher. Of course, Ersty was bigger than Reggie, and was an ex-football player.
Just got home ...so since when does the contact play involve stopping when you think the catcher might catch the ball???
They say Rodney doesn't pitch good in non-save situations. Let's hope that's not an omen. game over if they walk him. I'm calling it. Two outs is good. Quit playing the damned white stripes!!! Why pitch around a guy with the winning run on third? Craziness. Just got back from a Lakers party, did I miss anything? Walk the bases loaded, who does this remind me of? All of Orange County let out a collective sigh of relief The Many Faces of Rodney. Feel the horror, feel the magic.
First extra innings game this year? Is that right? Fuentesaurus and Shieldsy in the pen Baboo! ALrighty LEadoff double... if we cant score here we dont deserve to win. Bring Chupa home, Matsui ...way, way overdue for a game winning hit. GODZILLA RBI SINGLE!!!!!!!!! Well no insurance runs, but we have the lead. Does he have a new stash? BriFus's stache looks like a cheap disguise! K! 2 outs Evil Fuentes is a much better pitcher. Light That Baby Up!

Hey I like the game thread montage as post-game wrap-up
(you should do this again sometime Rev)
I like Matsui breaking out of his slump to get the game winner
GODZILLA STRIKES!!!!!!!!
Raaddad - May 9, 2010
This has got to be one of the worst ABs in MLB history
They’re going berzerkwads over this in Marinerland, and they should be. Fernando Rodney has no idea where his pitches are going, loads the bases on walks, and your DH comes in and does this. Fernando was practically on his knees begging for a walk-off walk, and Sweeney wouldn’t give it to him.
A lucky escape tonight, but there isn’t a team in the American League as bad with the stick as the Mariners. If no Angel pitcher whose last name doesn’t rhyme with “Weaver” can remember what a strike zone is by tomorrow, the upcoming series against the Rays could make this week’s Boston Massacre look like a polite scolding.
Suboptimal - May 9, 2010
Well, I don't think Tom Seaver is still pitching, so we might be screwed.
~MMP~ - May 9, 2010
In defense of Sweeney
Here are the velocity readings for the final five pitches he faced:

Rodney was coming after him with some pretty intense heat.

You were partying and still had time for this?
Shame on your editors for not filling in for you. Gee wiz, give the boss a break once in a while.
I’ll give Fuentes the Panther this time. Got to give those closers a POTG once in a while.
vladtheimpaler - May 9, 2010
Hey I don't see the thing up anywhere to see what awenser won and how many points we have.
I am pretty sure I won but it isn’t letting me based on that put in my bet so Maybe I was wrong about what you were asking as the question idk. Anyway also its possible im sure you haven’t gotten it up yet so those points are not in effect and since IDK and don’t want to make a smaller bet unless I have too I am hoping I get an awenser before I leave.
If I did win my bet is (1000 and awenser is 2SB). If not I think I have enough and my bet would be 500 points and 2SB.
Thanks
TheAngelsColts - May 9, 2010
You're mixing questions.
The NEXT pregame question is “How many SB?”
the LAST pregame question was “What is Saunder’s last inning”… to which you answered 500th, for 6 points (… though that looks like you mixed up the two fields… be careful next time :) )
Apologies for the lateness, I too was out all day yesterday.
scottnak - May 9, 2010
If yesterdays question was "What will be Saunders last inning?"
The wouldn’t the people who guessed “6” get the points? Not the people who guessed “5”
halofan4life - May 9, 2010
I thought the same thing also
adirondackangelfan - May 9, 2010
I agree
There was also a game a few days back where I started with over 20000, won 70000, and my new total was like 65000. Doesn’t make any sense. I sent foxpaw an email about it but no response yet. I’m getting disappointed with the panther point system.
BrownLunchSack - May 9, 2010 via mobile
Its weird cause it shows That I switched fields but I don't recall that.
Either way it shouldn’t even allow me to put 500 innings and obviously that is wrong so idk I think that I may get the benefit this time idk but yea there have been a few odd things with this system going on so far.
TheAngelsColts - May 9, 2010
I know the prospects for Saundo against the M's were good
But 500 innings pitched is a bit much to expect from him…
Raaddad - May 9, 2010
Yea the Awenser should be 6.
If I recall the question was " Which inning will he record his last out". The awenser to that should be 6
TheAngelsColts - May 9, 2010
Agreed
red floyd - May 9, 2010
i fucked up
SORRY. Your entry fee to the game id completely refundable.
Rev Halofan - May 9, 2010
Why thank you kind sir I figured with people going out to parties last night they just were busy and mistakes happen.
TheAngelsColts - May 9, 2010
Thank goodness
The Mariners have only 2 qualified MLB hitters. Great to win, but walking 9 guys who have no chance of hitting you is embarrassing. Especially Langerhans. The guy is not even a good hitter in AAA. His only value is he goes up to the plate trying to work a walk. Just throw it down the middle. Let him get himself out.
RallyMonkey5 - May 9, 2010
K-Fran is the man
norcaliangelsfan - May 9, 2010
Scores are wrong. The question was "What inning will Joe Saunders throw his last pitch".
He lasted into the 6th. It wasn’t “How many innings will he complete”.
red floyd - May 9, 2010
Yes--protest launched!
The correct answer should have been 6!!
(44Fan has the game rigged ;)
Raaddad - May 9, 2010
Yeah, blame it on me bitch.
You do not want to be on my shit list. :)
44FAN - May 9, 2010
You're probably like BrickTop in Snatch
Paying gypsy boxers to take a fall—in this case, paying off Rev to screw up the results

SORRY. Your entry fee to the game id completely refundable.
Rev Halofan - May 9, 2010
can't we just change the results with 6 as the winner?
Darn…that was the 1st decent bet I’ve won
Raaddad - May 9, 2010
if it was reversible i would reverse it
sorry. i fucked up. I feel bad. human error. hopefully will not happen again.
Rev Halofan - May 9, 2010
ah no worries brother
Halos won—that’s the important thing, and Saunders went 5 pretty good innings.
Mother’s Day.
It’s all good.
Raaddad - May 9, 2010
Look like to win this game this year
you neither have to know how to bet or answer many questions correctly. You just have to catch Rev on an off day. LOL

I didn't realize I was so quoteable!

If you post enough times, something's bound to stick!

We are better with out Wood!!
Kevin Frandsen for Panther just cause he is a option to replace Wood.
Source: English expression “dead wood” weighing and/or slowing something down
Context: Any bowling game
Connotations: The pin’s location is annoying because the game must stop until someone gets it out, but the bowlers must have an employee of the bowling alley go get it. Since it takes a strongly thrown ball to knock a pin into the gutter, it is somewhat of a sign of strength in the bowler.
Examples: “I’m gonna go get a beer while we wait for the pin monkey to pull out the dead wood.”
Example: I’m gonna go get a beer while I wait for the sloth to pull Brandon Wood out of the game, cuz even a monkey couldnt help him.
SFV88 - May 9, 2010
Seriously, he has 1 three hit game, and people want him to replace Wood?
Despite the fact that he’s been entirely not that good since he screwed up his Achilles tendon a few years ago.
~MMP~ - May 9, 2010
At least we have a good sub for Wood now that Maicer is gone for a bit
Raaddad - May 9, 2010
Yes, Frandsen is a good backup infielder, but I've now seen several people claim that he's a better everyday 3B option than Wood.
~MMP~ - May 9, 2010
In simple words....
Hell yes!!! Wood cant hit or field!! Even if K-Fran barley hits better then wood, at lest he wont let ground balls go UNDER his glove like wood has done many times.
SFV88 - May 9, 2010
Ya, instead he'll just constantly pull Kendry off the bag with his throws!
~MMP~ - May 9, 2010
Wood deserves the benefit of the doubt....
Like Frandsen, he’s done it so many times before in the minors. Wood has more potential, is younger and has paid his dues in this system. We should keep playing him.
But the idea of having Maicer and Frandsen capable of taking over should Woody not succeed is comforting.
Also, I LOVE Michael Ryan’s swing. Let’s drop Quinny and bring up that AA reliever Kohn. That guy is posting unbelievable numbers and was great in Spring.
Halowood - May 9, 2010
I agree with all of this
~MMP~ - May 9, 2010
bullshit
dr-awkward - May 9, 2010
I was glad when they got Frandsen
And feel even better about it now. He will swing at the right pitches, make contact and hit some singles for us. As a defender, I really like his reactions. He’s kind of like Maicer in that he reacts so quickly he can knock down balls and make diving catches. Watching Wood in the field he seems just a tick of a second slower in his reactions than Frandsen, or Maicer, or Figgy last year. Maybe that’s we he can’t make contact.
The downside to Frandsen at third is he doesn’t seem to be used to the throw, so throwing off balance or something like that pulls Kendry off the bag. A little experience at the position and he should be fine.
RallyMonkey5 - May 9, 2010
Another thing I like about Frandsen
Is we get him thanks to some objectively stupid roster crunches from the Red Sox, supposedly the smart franchise. It’s not like the Red Sox have a lot of depth in middle infield either, and Frandsen didn’t play himself off their roster. What happened was this:
1) they had to either release Alan Embree or put him on the 40 man roster.
2) they choose to keep Embree, and Frandsen is the one who loses a spot
3) Embree does not pitch to a batter in his short time as a 2010 Red Sock
4) Embree is released to make room for Dice-K coming off the DL
So Frandsen is our gain, their loss, so they could clear up a roster spot for a guy they had no use for anyway. I love it.

LAASurfin - May 9, 2010
I'm giving Kevin Frandsen my panther. A badass game at 3B and the plate.
Halowood - May 9, 2010
Check out the new photo at the top of Lookout Landing...
Jeeziz…not a lot of optimism going on over there. interesting especially after the whole “fandom” ass sucking fest that went on a few days ago.
dr-awkward - May 9, 2010
HA you should have seen them yest. during the game they were hating on both teams the whole game
TheAngelsColts - May 9, 2010
Quinlan (who can't hit) is the DH today.
Cory Aldridge (.315/.350/.554 with the SL Bees this year, including 5 HRs and 5 doubles) would be a much better option.
