Final Score in Fenway Park: Angels 6, Red Sox 11 ... Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up 4 runs in the 1st inning and it looked like the Angels would get their first victory in a week. Sadly the games still last 9 innings and the Angels pitching gave up the the lead eventually, for good and even a Mike Napoli HR was muted when the Angels mop up relief created a bigger spill than they had been handed.
It was the first time in 30 years that the Red Sox have swept a four game series from the Angels, and it was the first four-game sweep of the Halos in Fenway Park since the Sox took back-to-back doubleheaders 1967 ... but it suuuuuuure felt familiar. Angels starter Scott Kazmir was terrible, nibbling on a corner of the plate that was not there and walking 5 over 3 strikeouts in 4+ innings. He threw 107 pitches, 59 for strikes. The Angels have minor leaguers who can do that.
The Angels have a 7 game losing streak comprised of two road sweeps. They have not won a game in May. Their most recent victory was with a walk-off bunt at home on April 28. And now they fly to Seattle for three games...

I honestly don't know what to make of this
Going 0-7 on the road? What the hell? How do you fix that?
Teixeira Who? - May 6, 2010
Congrats to the Angels...
longest active losing streak in baseball.
dr-awkward - May 6, 2010
At least we are not the Astros
Two 9 game losing streaks this season
that is sad
DAD OF VLAD - May 6, 2010
Funny
The Angels are comically bad right now. I still think they’ll be OK, but this is getting very annoying. They can’t do anything right at the moment.
jjackflash - May 6, 2010
In other news....
Looks like Vlad has hit 2 homeruns tonight….

This team needs to be aborted.
What an embarrassing display of baseball.
bc56274 - May 6, 2010
Another lost and Kaz sucks again
he needs to attack and not pussy about in the strike zone.
DAD OF VLAD - May 6, 2010
That assumes he can do so
I wonder if he has really recovered from his prior injury completely. Or maybe he just sucks.
scareduck - May 6, 2010
Can't help but think of S-Rod when Kaz sucks this bad...
Monkeyspanked - May 6, 2010
s-rod
and his .200 average, .289 slugging, 1 hr, 18 strikeouts, 9 hits.
he will be missed

Folks, I am depressed
What is the matter with our guys? Will a long plane ride help? These and other questions will be answered in the next episode of “As My Stomach Turns”…the heartbreaking story of the Angels in May 2010

The cackling sound you hear

Wally's World - May 6, 2010
this is the same sean rodriguez who is hitting .200 with 1 HR?

He's better than that
And those numbers are with just a whiff of playing time in the Show.

that’s all he can do consistently.

Wake up and make some lemonade Scott
K3YEROUT - May 6, 2010
Kaz. No doubt.
When you’re handed a 4-0 lead before you even take the mound, and you wind up with the loss, there’s no question who the blame is.

Frosted lettuce
Juancho the bat sniffer for governor!!
TSamn15 - May 6, 2010
At least we're in the AL West
A couple games above .500 will likely win the division.
mustard_man - May 6, 2010
The Angels right now remind me of these guys
You remember the A-Team. Well the Angels are alot like them; they survive as soldiers of fortune. If your team has a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can play…the Angels.
Think about it; they went to Detroit and helped them keep pace with the Twins. They went to Boston and helped them turn things around after being swept by the Orioles. And now the Angels are off to Seattle to help the Mariners’ lineup score lots of runs.

I'm going away for the weekend, starting tomorrow.
Sitting on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, looking like the Corona commercials, but also with a margarita in my hands.
I hope the Halos have pulled their shit together when I get back on Monday night.

I'm not panicking
but I think the bullpen needs to be blown up. Put Shields on the DL, put Bulge on a bus, anything to get those guys straightened out and get some fresh blood for a few series. It worked with Howard last year.
neochoa - May 6, 2010
The bullpen is overworked and responding by acting horrendous when we need them most.
I’d love some kind of shakeup to force some players to fix themselves.
AlanFalcon - May 6, 2010
we need an innings eater
Rev Halofan - May 6, 2010
aren't those called
“starters” ?
Not enjoyable to watch, but the silver lining is that they are 3 1/2 back … after losing 7 in a row and maybe playing 5 solid games all year.
They may not win the division, but I doubt they will look this horrible for this long of a period again this year.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - May 6, 2010
Sure glad Rodney got some work in tonight

The Walkoff Man
K3YEROUT - May 6, 2010
You know what this team lacks, besides heart?
A stopper.
There are no guaranteed winning starting pitchers on our roster. Nobody invokes any kind of dominating presence on our staff.
Weaver is our #1, but let’s face it, he’s no top notched stud.
Santana has good stuff, but he can blow up any minute. I wouldn’t trust him in a pressure situation.
The league has figured out Saunders.
Kazmir is damaged goods.
Pineiro has been effective a few times, but his ERA should hit half a dozen before too long.
BOTS (blame of the season) – Tony Reagins.
bc56274 - May 6, 2010
I didn't realize 4 out of 6 starts counted as "a few times"
And not sure why you think he’ll end up with an ERA near 6

Should we all start duct-taping our windows now too?
44FAN - May 7, 2010
Can't believe no one guessed Kaz would pick up 3 stikeouts--No Panther points tonight
Well, let’s see, the last game against the very hot Tigers, he struck out 7—a great game—-but which is the real Scott Kazmir?
Raaddad - May 7, 2010
would you believe "strikeouts"...?
Raaddad - May 7, 2010
Actually the three strikeouts were more in line with Kaz's record against the *Red Sox in his past
few games against them. I was banking on him doing a bit better with the strikeouts based on his last outing and the fact that all Angels starters got more strikeouts against Boston this series than their average per game pitched this season. However this analysis did not serve me well. I was hoping Kaz would be a little bit better but he definitely was not.
44FAN - May 7, 2010
Even the Big Shots at the top were fooled ;)
At least you went with a fairly conservative bet
Raaddad - May 7, 2010
yeswecan and I had a similar idea on betting...
I thought Kaz wouldn’t make it through the first inning so I picked 1K. ywc had 0.
Downing Rules - May 7, 2010
Anyone else notice Palmer's little outburst after our lovely little errors?
At least Howie’s error looked nice….
And Aybar had a tailor made double play ball.
Neekohlai - May 7, 2010
Nah, I didn't see that.
And are you referring to the one Aybar dropped? I think they had a DP, but the ump called the runner who was 2nd safe because Aybar intentionally dropped it
~MMP~ - May 7, 2010
Nahhh
It was the ground ball that Aybar bobbled before getting it to Howie.
This was the play.
- D. McDonald grounded into fielder’s choice, J.D. Drew scored, A. Beltre to third, J. Hermida out at second
Aybar bobbled the ball, and McDonald beat out the turn from Howie.
Then Scutaro popped up and right before it went to commercial, Palmer was either A. yelling at himself, or B. (which it looked like to me), yelling at Aybar/Kendrick.
Neekohlai - May 7, 2010
Ahhh
~MMP~ - May 7, 2010
When the inning ended...
I swore that I saw Palmer mouthing “it wasn’t my fault!” as he turned and walked off the mound.
Any lip readers with a DVR of the game to back that up?
Downing Rules - May 7, 2010
Scottnak
My score on game 05_05 was incorrectly calculated and then on the 05_06 game the spreadsheet corrected itself and now my score is accurate. Interesting!
44FAN - May 7, 2010
If i pick up a spreadsheet late,
it has the next calculations already included in the “total” section.
So, only the bet/winnings columns are accurate.
scottnak - May 7, 2010
Thanks for all the work you do for us.

DAD OF VLAD - May 7, 2010
is it me
or have the angels had atleast an error on this losing streak
Drizzy23 - May 7, 2010
Feels... like... nineteen... eighty... eight
Too… much… deja… vu.
Let’s see, Ronny Ray-Gun was president, a gallon ‘o gas was about $1.10, INXS’ “Need You Tonight” was topping the charts… And the Angels were 12-19 on May 8th.
Been there, done that. (Bought the t-shirt).
Now, where’s is that bottle of scotch I put away back then..?
LAASurfin - May 7, 2010
With all the good years the halos have had as of late, i think many of us have forgotten that Angels teams played like this regularly for like 30 yrs,so its like a blast from the past, call it a retro month lol so long as it doesn’t become a retro year!!!
