Final Score in St. Louis: Angels 10, Cardinals 7 ... Lefty Scott Kazmir pitched like an ace against the thunderbat lineup of the National League Central. Kaz allowed 3 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, striking out 5 Redbirds along the way.

HA! calling baseball players from St. Louis "Red Birds" is kind of like calling Angels batters "Winged Spirits" I guess. Well the Winged Spirits brought their lumber to the shadow of the silver arch this afternoon. Kendry Morales was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Kevin Frandsen was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, Mike Napoli hit a 2 run HR, Hideki Matsui had a 2-run single (he started in LF), but the big hit was a bases loaded 2 run single by Torii Hunter in the 3rd inning to take the lead that the Angels would never surrender.

When the game got close late due to Winged Spirit minor leaguers Robert "Bobby" Cassevah and Reggie Willits conspiring to gack up a few runs, you had to scratch your head at the early-game genius of Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa. In the bottom of the 5th, down 8-2 but not out, LaRussa had Adam Wainwright pinch hit. For those of you who do not follow the National League, Wainwright is a pitcher batting .082... but somehow Tony LaRussa is the bushy-haired roundball guru of cornfield country. If you pinch-hit, they will come... I guess... Red Birds? There will likely be little "parroting" of that strategy around baseball... but yes, pitchers bat in the National League in conformity to 1800s baseball rules, although in a break with tradition, the Cardinals will play a game on Sunday AND allow unescorted ladies to purchase an admission ticket to the stadium tomorrow. Freakin' radicals!

Oh and by the way, Albert Pujols has not had a hit against the Angels in two games. Celebrate the bullet!

I'll go with Kaz for Panther......

but K-Mo was a b-all-ah today as well.

Agreed

Co-Panther?

agreed

Though Frandsen deserves some props as well: 3-3

Tri-Panter

A hydra of panthers today!

Kazmir, with Hunter/Morales/Napoli close runners up
Damn Pujols

Your dragging my fantasy team down

the MOJO worked today

I'll admit it,

I voted for Rodney, yes it got uncomfortable with him on the mound, he couldn’t throw a strike, and didn’t look all that good.
But he kept Fuentes off the field. he’s my POTG.

Rally Gnome

Oh Gnome you didn't...
POTG = Frandsen.

For proving that the 3B can get hits.

Frandsen

deserves a POTG day today. We’re never used to ANY hits, or a 3-3, from our 3B this season.

Frandsen and whomever decided to put him in the game instead of Wood

with Frandsen we got hits and some solid defense at 3rd, with Wood we get no hitting, and a good defensive play, followed by a completely bonehead defensive play.

I wouldn't describe Frandsen's defense as solid, he's been pretty bad
When they're good, they're really good. When they're bad, hide the children.
The Angels pitchers have a 1.70 collective ERA in their 20 wins. It’s 7.65 in their 24 losses. The offense is batting .310 with runners in scoring position during wins, .200 during losses. There are always disparities in these splits, but rarely this severe. What’s more, an 0-21 record when trailing after seven innings suggests the club isn’t as resilient as it needs to be, if it intends to win a fourth consecutive AL West title. …

Catcher Jeff Mathis, whose absence since April 20 has placed a heavy physical burden on fellow receiver Mike Napoli, hopes to start swinging a bat when the Angels return home on Monday to face the Blue Jays. Mathis, hitting .324 with a .500 slugging percentage in 10 games, has been doing various exercises to strengthen his right wrist, fractured on April 19. “It’s getting better, but there’s still some soreness in there,” Mathis said. “I’ll be back as soon as they’ll let me play.” Mathis figures he’ll play at least three Minor League rehab games, given how long he’s been out.

Maicer Izturis, coming back from right shoulder inflammation, isn’t expected to need any Minor League time. The versatile infielder has been out since May 6.

What a crock of bullshit:
Catcher Jeff Mathis, whose absence since April 20 has placed a heavy physical burden on fellow receiver Mike Napoli

Mike Napoli wants to play everyday, he is a professional major league catcher, and has stated he prefers to play every day.

Wait, when they're good, they win?

And when they’re bad, they lose? That’s some top notch journalism, Lyle.

I'm still not convinced.

Run those numbers for me again.

I figured it out.

If we win more, our pitching will be better!

"Winged Spirits"

I get what you’re going for, but it reminds me too much of the Disney unis and the remake of Angels in The Outfield. [shudder]

I prefer the good old moniker “Halos”. I can hear Dick Enberg even now in my mind’s ear, saying “. . .and there’s a halo over every base.”

Adam Wainwright

Of course you are posting this a day after Brad Penny had a grand slam against us.

Lightning Doesn't strike twice

but, yeah, point taken!!!

6 out of the last nine!

THAT’S WINS, PEOPLE!!

kaz for panther

Because his last two starts, minus one inning, have been very good. And it looks like he’s building on that and that excites me because he was the last question mark in the rotation. For me, at least, he was
