I know it's too early to worry...
But I’m worried.
chairmanofthebar - April 9, 2010
Cassevah
When did this guy join the active roster?
jjackflash - April 9, 2010
the second they FINALLY gave ole Q the heave ho
MH252525 - April 9, 2010
today
Quinlan waived
Rev Halofan - April 9, 2010
bye-bye
44FAN - April 9, 2010
waived? i thought he got sent down?
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 9, 2010
Yeah, he’s just on a minor league contract so it’s a simple process.
AlanFalcon - April 10, 2010 via mobile
I missed that
I still can’t quite figure out why he made the roster in the 1st place.
jjackflash - April 9, 2010
2004 - 2006
“rakes lefties”
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - April 10, 2010
Weaver will stop the losing streak.
SenorChuckles - April 9, 2010
they will if Sosh changes the lineup to this:
1 Matsui
2 Matsui
3 Matsui
4 Matsui
5 Matsui
6 Matsui
7 Matsui
8 Matsui
9 Matsui
Angelsrthebest101 - April 9, 2010
Kendrick has been very good as well
ryanfea - April 9, 2010
got him as well
Angelsrthebest101 - April 9, 2010
but his errors kind of cancel out the hits
44FAN - April 9, 2010
and then Howie pinch hits for Matsui number 9
Angelsrthebest101 - April 9, 2010
We would steal so many bases!
TheAntiSox - April 10, 2010
I'm still bitter
About Evans wearing #17
ryanfea - April 9, 2010
I don't get the jersey # fetish everyone else has
44FAN - April 9, 2010
as long as no one wears
34 im fine
Vladd#27 - April 9, 2010
here...imagine this:
some POS like greg zaun gets traded to an Napoli-less Angels and he chooses # 44.
get it?
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 9, 2010
nope
would not affect me in the least if Nap was traded and anybody new took his number. There are only so many numbers. It would looks silly I thing with triple numeral jerseys…….101, 276, ect.
44FAN - April 9, 2010
remember rene gonzales??
he did a stint with the halos. # 99!
in high-school i wore double nut…aka 00….
wish more people did that.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 9, 2010
RENE
was JERSEY 88 on the Angels
Rev Halofan - April 9, 2010
thanks for the correction...
i was going off of memory AAAAND…remembered that # by goddamn high.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 9, 2010
Don't forget fractions
Like in blurnsball we can have an infinite number of factions. We should just retire every Angel from now on. Zaun would then be 1/44
Trott - April 9, 2010
Roman numerals
Downing Rules - April 10, 2010
Or this...
..say some part-time catcher on the Angels takes the number of a Hall of Famer, like , I dunno, Reggie Jackson?
LittleCupcakes - April 10, 2010
something to write about instead of shitty games like this…
Rev Halofan - April 9, 2010
We can always skip over to AN and read baseballgirl's cheerful little game wrap ups.
She can make a hanging sound fun.
44FAN - April 9, 2010
evans AND cassevah?
this is like september in april!
Now i sort of regret turning the game off to watch spies like us.
clover_black - April 9, 2010
I think it’s the offense’s fault. They can’t hit with runners in scoring position. The only one who is hitting the ball is Matsui. Good thing Quinlan is gone. He should have never made the roster in the first place
Edgar Duran - April 9, 2010

rmhalofan - April 10, 2010
OH NOOOOO
Do you guys think we should panic?. and i dont know about you guys but wood needs to start hitting or atleast do somethang instead of striking out our lil whimpy hits
Drizzy23 - April 9, 2010
worry away drizzy...
it will make first place in august all that much better for ya.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 9, 2010
my 2 cents.
1) it is the first week of the season, SO RELAX!
2) lay off brandon wood and give the guy a f@ck!ng chance to play.
jhens76 - April 9, 2010
To be fair
No one in this thread has yet to panic or bitch about Wood’s at bats.
Teixeira Who? - April 9, 2010
Wood's at bats
shouldn’t exist to begin with. He’s already been given enough AB’s in 2007-2009 to prove he’s a career minor leaguer.
ttsec - April 10, 2010
is your post for real?
Doctor Wu - April 10, 2010
As real as
Brandon Wood’s career batting avg.
ttsec - April 10, 2010
Then you're an idiot.
Wood’s playing time up this point in his career has been extremely irregular, as in “play for 1 game, sit on the bench for a week, go to salt lake, come back, sit on the bench for another two weeks, play in one game.” He had a rough stretch in 2008, but when he got called back up in September of that year, he raked.
Let’s give the guy a tad more than 12 ABs of regular playing time—a 12 ABs in which he’s done more than Mark Teixeira and A-Rod have done this year—before we start calling for his head, mmkay?
Clutch - April 10, 2010
Name calling isn't cool.
But, I agree with the body of your message.
Downing Rules - April 10, 2010
Yeah, straw meet camel's back
Just more than a tad tired of all this “OMG BRANDONSWOODSSUXXORS!!!!” talk so early in the season. Give the guy a break. I’ll refrain from the strong language in the future…
Clutch - April 10, 2010
My criticism of Brandon Wood is not based on only the first 4 games of this season, it is based on his entire career, and not just numbers, but having visually observed his at bats, demeanor, body language, etc… This guy may have the physical talent, but psycho-emotionally, he doesn’t have MLB makeup.
The difference between Mark Texasera and Arod is that those two have positively proven careers. However, for Brandon Wood, he hasn’t proved anything positive, and so Wood hasn’t earned any leeway.
This is plain ‘ol business sense, you don’t put a guy who has only shown in the past that he can’t hit on a MLB level as your starting 3B when you have better people like Itzturis who hit .300 last season, is sitting on the bench.
ttsec - April 10, 2010
"Small sample size" caveat can apply to Wood at this juncture.
Downing Rules - April 10, 2010
Again
It’s not as though Wood was brought up at some point last year and handed 400 ABs in a row, as you seem to think. He was brought up and played extremely irregularly, first in 2007 when he was barely out of AA, then in 2008 when he was settling in for the second time at AAA. He raked throughout September 2008 at the major league level—go ahead, look it up, and don’t let the 2008 total fool you—and then we all got to watch him rot on the Angels bench for months at a time in 2009. It is not at all fair to say that Wood “has been given his chance” at this level. That might be fair after, I don’t know, a full 600 AB season at the major-league level, but not until then.
Coincidentally, guess who was given a good 300 or so ABs in a row and produced absolutely nothing? That’s right—Kendry Morales in 2006. Man oh man am I glad we didn’t have you advising the team back then—otherwise Kendry would be mashing for some divisional rival by now…
Clutch - April 10, 2010
Well
I don’t consider myself qualified to psychoanalyze a MLB player’s body language but I can safely say that Wood’s sporadic 200 AB’s (at a time when an average MLB player would have had around 1500) aren’t a legitimate sample size.
What is a legitimate sample size is the fact that during spring training he received a metric shit ton (exact number) of consecutive AB’s and batting right around .280 off of major league pitching. That, along with his minor league numbers, are probably far more legitimate sample sizes. Wood could very well be a dud but nothing he’s done in these 12 AB’s has indicated that.

RE: Scoring "Issue"
Because I grabbed the scores late, it had already calculated your new scores AFTER you had betted. So while it looked like your total score was less than your winnings, that was only the case because you had betted for the next game.
However, there is a small issue where some people may be shortchanged from their 1st Bet (if they bet correctly), that will be remedied soon.
Remember, it is your responsibility to ensure YOUR picks are going correctly. Keep track of your points, and don’t hesitate to contact Rev, foxpaw, or myself if you see an issue. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I encourage you to bug me if you see anything wrong. (Until you cross the line, then… well. What can I do)
scottnak - April 9, 2010
I always keep track of my own running scores. I think that is half the fun of the game.
unless you happen to be eyespy or stirrups or Q….don’t worry guys you will get 100 more panther points very soon. LOL

is it march yet?

how did stirrups bet 10 panther points and win 110pts. when he was down to zero yesterday?
interesting.
44FAN - April 9, 2010
Like this
He probably had 10 points left, bet 10, and because the scores were grabbed after he bet it looked like he had zero.

I have pix from the Quakes game tonight
Mostly focused on Kaz, Willits, Amarista, and Baird. None of the other names really caught my attention tonight. As soon as I can figure out how to get the pictures off my camera and onto my computer, I’ll post those for you guys. This is what I get for pretty much NEVER taking pictures, I have no idea how to transfer them for your viewing pleasure.
Anyway, it was awesome watching Baird hit the walk-off double in the 10th inning, although I’m surprised I made it that far, cause the game wasn’t too exciting. Kaz looked pretty good out there, but looked completely disinterested in the fact he was pitching in a minor league stadium to minor league batters. Willits looked quite good, made a couple of nice plays in RF, and even showed decent pop from the right side on his double to the RCF gap.
Needless to say, it got kinda cold in the stadium, and minor league games are still minor league games, even when you actually know something about a few of the players playing.
To Angels Stadium in Anaheim tomorrow to turn the losing streak into a winning streak! Go Halos!
b0rd3rline - April 9, 2010
I watched the Bees lose by 10 once but stayed the whole time.
I think its really exciting watching prospects, even if they are losing by a whole bunch or the game sucks. From the box score, it looks like Kaz was on until the seventh. On the other hand, it says he gave up 8 hits. Do you think he was experimenting a bit with pitches or still needed to work some stuff out?
Also, awesome about Baird. He has the same last name as me so needless to say I am rooting for him.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 10, 2010
Kaz looked good.
Only a couple of the hits against him were hit very hard. He was definitely overmatching most of the A-ball hitters with his stuff, as most of the righties were grounding weak out to 1st and lefties to 3rd. He did seem to tire a little bit in the 7th, but it was the reliever after him (Scholl?) who let the runners score. There was one point, I think in the 4th or so, when a time-out was called and a trainer went out to the mound during an at-bat. The conference didn’t last long though, so I’m hoping it was just the trainer being cautious.
b0rd3rline - April 10, 2010
We are 3 games out with 157 to go.
I would say it’s time to push the panic button.
I’m just not sure there is enough season left to overcome such a deficit.
bc56274 - April 10, 2010
Very Worried...
After the opening day high, the Halos look awful – every part of their game stinks…defense is awful – an A got to second on a basic grounder up the middle, Mathis looked like a little league catcher on a play at the plate, the pitching staff is sending beach ball sized pitches right down the middle, and the hitters (excepting Godzilla) look tentative…this thing needs to be turned around NOW!!!
Halopauly - April 10, 2010
Its probably because everyone’s trying to go opposite way. The way you look at some of the swings, its like back in the ALCS with everyone just trying to get the ball out of the infield, with Matsui/Rivera the only ones actually swinging his bat well.
phoenix15 - April 10, 2010
i blame
Wood for not hustling last night, Oh wait that was Torii. Then i blame Wood for pitching poorly, oh wait that was Palmer. I blame wood because he has not hit 4 home runs like S-rod. Worst trade ever. Kaz in RC and S-Rod hitting lead off grandslams in TB.
DAD OF VLAD - April 10, 2010
Win.
Clutch - April 10, 2010
Last time I checked Wood was 1-16 with 6 K's
oh wait that was Torii’s fault.
Fred Fredrix - April 10, 2010
And Teixeira is 0-16.
Can’t wait to pick him up on waivers when the Yankees DFA him, because that’s obviously what they should do. He’s clearly more worthless than Wood.
Clutch - April 10, 2010
In the words of the PS3 guy
Well played Dad of Vlad…
Teixeira Who? - April 11, 2010
In my opinion
The starting rotation has been good. Weaver, Santana, Pinerio, Saunders (although he’s got to stop giving up long balls). The offense should’ve been able to come back from a 4-1 deficit. Although they pitched against the Twins which actually has a pretty good offense. The As on the other hand, probably have as much offensive capabilities as the Angel’s AAA team. Palmer and Bulger should’ve been able to at least keep it a 1-2 run ball.
phoenix15 - April 10, 2010
Rotation has NOT been good
Saunders was worse than Palmer.
Santana gave up 4 over 5 innings, although he didn’t look bad in the process. Ramon Ortiz used to look good in the process of giving up homeruns on all of his mistakes as well.
Weaver and Piniero gave their team a chance to win though.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - April 10, 2010
What the heck is with TWO DIFFERENT #9 hitters
going yard against the Halos? Wow. Terrible pitching.
I am also really surprised that opposing pitchers are POUNDING THE STRIKE ZONE EARLY. Our boys are mostly in pitcher’s counts. I don’t think that Brandon Wood has even seen a 2-ball count yet in 2010. Maybe we have to start hacking again???
Downing Rules - April 10, 2010
wood has GOT to go after that first pitch
clover_black - April 10, 2010
i blame Abooooooooooooooooooooooo
Ever since he has arrived from the Sankeeys
He has taught patience
Go after the ball and kill some bitches
we look like punk ass hoes
dogs with our tails between our legs
we need to stop looking like a bunch of GA’s and try to do something
Get the bulldog back
As i tell myself before a quiz, the angels must say the same,
“I AM GOING TO MAKE IT MY BITCH”
DAD OF VLAD - April 10, 2010
but what do you really think?
Raaddad - April 10, 2010
Went to the game last night and Wednesday.
And stayed til the bitter end for both games. The tribute to Rory was excellent. The outcome of the game was not. Last night was an exercise in pain tolerance levels as it was choakland who, well there’s no other way to say it, beat us like a borrowed mule. But, it is still early, slow starts aren’t exactly unusual for us, and at least Johnny Rivers is starting to come around.
halofolife - April 10, 2010
I was there Weds, Thurs and Friday...
progressively worse each game. I am going to take a night off and simply watch on the boob tube tonight. Muted, of course.
