about 2 years ago: ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 8: Hideki Matsui #55 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim walks to his left field position during the game with the Minnesota Twins on April 8, 2010 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)
The Angels got a quality start from Joel Pineiro in his debut on the mound as a Halo. Meanwhile the Angels bats got a snug quality night's sleep in as they left 9 men on base in a game that was a lot closer than the final score. Pineiro allowed 3 runs in 6+ innings pitched before handing the ball over to Kevin Jepsen to complete 7. But reliever Brian Stokes let it get away with a 3-run Jim Thome HR in the 8th and in the 9th, the dam burst. Ugh.
Hideki Matsui started in LF but was not a factor on defense or offense tonight.
There once was an offense seeking
a hitter or two who were peaking
but hearing Jesse Crain's whiffs
caused some fans to ask if
there was an air mattress on the field leaking
SBN's new partner site FANGRAPHS calculates the blame of the game should go to Brian Stokes with -.125 of this game's loss expectancy. What do you think?

Hideki Matsui walks......
Says a lot right there. Run on the field old man, or is it to tough with that bucket of a head. That has to be the biggest dome in the game!
Angel Aviator - April 8, 2010
Placido Polanco disagree
Julio Lugo - April 8, 2010
although he isnt "IN" the game...
jose mota would disagree
BigBangRobbDawgg - April 8, 2010
I liked the start, as a start.
Not bad for Pineiro his first time out. Way to get out of some Jams early. I look forward to some really good starts soon.
Wally's World - April 8, 2010
Agree
Other than that 5th inning he was really good. All those grounders are encouraging.
stolenbases - April 8, 2010
solid limerick bro
Kaine - April 8, 2010
Agreed
Love a good limerick…
Did you catch our awesome limerick post in January I believe?
Raaddad - April 8, 2010
lethargic Angel bats
But Stokes ultimately killed any reasonable chance at a rally.
yeswecan - April 8, 2010
Blame of the series= SNUGGIES
Evil snuggies
M.Napoli For President in 2012 - April 8, 2010
how many losses is it going to take to shake that bad polyester karma?
Quad Fin Rider - April 8, 2010
I'm not superstitious
but I say burn all the evil death snuggies
Raaddad - April 8, 2010
Blame should actually just be
The entire Angels offense.
Slyintine - April 8, 2010
+1 so far to blame in all of their losses so far
Angelsrthebest101 - April 8, 2010
Blame of the offseason
Reagins for thinking Fernando Rodney was anything close to a ML caliber pitcher…..
Blame of the game. Either Stokes or Mathis, whoever it was that thought you can start an inning off with 20 straight fastballs……
MH252525 - April 8, 2010
+1
snowhor - April 9, 2010 via mobile
Looking familiar...
We had a similar problem early last season. Get guys on base and then…nothing.
I’ve learned to never trust a good angels start. I feel like an angels season that starts off slow and crappy is a better sign that starting off great…just look at 95…or…2002!
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 8, 2010
yeah but no one enjoys seeming play like garbage
Angelsrthebest101 - April 8, 2010
Long season...
Dont get too worried, yet.
Oh and thanks for the obvious. Gee, I thought HH’ers enjoyed watching the angels lose by 9!
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 8, 2010
I know the offseason isn't supposed to matter...
…but they sure seem to be playing just like the offseason still :/
RedFog - April 8, 2010
Do you mean
pre-season? Not sure they played any games over the offseason. ;)
Downing Rules - April 8, 2010
I felt like they had a good chance
if they entered 8 and 9 only down 2.
Fernando Rodney was primed for his first Angels win tonight. Stokes ruined it.
Quinlan's Goofy Swing - April 8, 2010
Rodney looking to become the worst free agent signing in Angels history
chairmanofthebar - April 8, 2010
too early to tell...
but it could be true.
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 8, 2010
this.
rodney is a turd.
IF the angels make the post season, imagine handing the ball to this winner in a pressure situation.
clover_black - April 8, 2010
exactly why do you sign a guy to a multi-year multi-million dollar contract so he can
be at BEST the 4th guy on the totem pole. No way anyone with any baseball knowledge would take him over Fuentes, Jepsen, or Bulger. And With Shields back, I’d put him 5th in line tied with Stokes (who has better control than Rodney) for least reliable reliever.
MH252525 - April 8, 2010
Oh!!!!!! Now you all want to jump off the Rockin Rodney fan bandwagon already!!!!!
Listen to you guys!!!! Just like that!?!
Just as a result of my man Randy Rockin’ Rodney getting Rocked Ridculously in Record time?
You gotta keep the faith that Reagins knows his Rod is Real, man.
Raaddad - April 8, 2010
Only Human.
ttsec - April 9, 2010
got to love raadney
DAD OF VLAD - April 9, 2010
I keep having Yan flashbacks everytime he takes the mound
Quad Fin Rider - April 8, 2010
Nothing will touch GMJ
But Rodney could be the worst signing of the offseason.
Suboptimal - April 8, 2010
how could he not be
I mean if Matsui or Pinero fail they both did great last season. Last season Rodney had a WHIP which was .01 better than a guy they released from another albatross of a contract.
MH252525 - April 8, 2010
After Stokes dropped that turd of an inning...
I jokingly yelled “We want Matthews Junior back!” Sorry, I was hyped up a bit.
Downing Rules - April 8, 2010
watch some more baseball
this was game 4 of 162
yeswecan - April 8, 2010
Yep, and the Tigers fans told us he sucked most of the time...
from what I’ve seen thus far, he sucks ALL THE TIME (small sample size caveat).
Downing Rules - April 8, 2010
Steve Finley, Shea Hillenbrand, and JEFF WEAVER all say hi
Along with I’m sure dozens of others whose names are escaping me at the moment…and that’s just from the last few years!
Clutch - April 9, 2010
Twins hit 10 home runs in that series
All night games in Anaheim too.
Suboptimal - April 8, 2010
no marine layer of late
dry cool air taking balls for a ride.
Rev Halofan - April 8, 2010
unfortunately
not a whole sh**load of our balls
I’m glad I missed the last 3 innings—ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Raaddad - April 8, 2010
I wonder if it is too late for Adam Riggs to join the "Tradition Video"
Here is a photo he submitted, Consider it his audition.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/1004/mlb.uniform.misspellings/content.7.html
MH252525 - April 8, 2010
I was there for that game
I could see his misspelled uniform through my binoculars, and when I mentioned it, everyone around looked at me as if I’d had a few too many. They then took him out of the game, so I was not vindicated until later.
rspencer - April 8, 2010
Ugh, it was painful to be at this game.
Hopefully we have better luck against the A’s
~MMP~ - April 8, 2010
Very painful...
in P259, I ended up surrounded by roughly 50 Twits fans. No halo fans left in the bullpen area. It was nice to see a lot of Ocean View High kids there to cheer on their guy Burnett in his ML debut. I yelled at him “send us home happy local boy.” He did no such thing, darn him.
Downing Rules - April 8, 2010
he got to face
Robb “$^#@%” Quinlan……
MH252525 - April 9, 2010
should I be mad
that my buddy who I brought to the game with my extra ticket got a foul ball from Abreu? and the only reason he got the ball was because we moved from the horrible seats we had to some good ones I spotted saying “lets go there, its foul ball territory.”
I’m bitter
2pintsofbooze - April 9, 2010
oh yeah
and the only reason I couldn’t grab the ball was because of the beer in my hand. I was crippled by my beer!
still bitter
2pintsofbooze - April 9, 2010
I blame Wood
he was not clutch again
no hit last night
DAD OF VLAD - April 9, 2010
Dissapointment
Surprised my wife with some choice seats right behind the Angels dugout. I actually found myself apologizing to her for the debacle.
