Final Score in L.A. of Anaheim: Minnesota Twins: 5, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: 3
Let's hope that the terrible first inning unenjoyed by Joe Saunders was just a case of late-Spring deadarm. Saunders gave up three HRs to Twinkie batters who were sitting on his 87 MPH "fastball" and sending additional souvenirs into the fleece-blanket adorned crowd in the Angel Stadium seats.
On a night that the Angels onlookers broke a record for wearing the most "snuggies" (fleece blankets with a rear entrance), Saunders' pitching looked like the Guinness book might have to get out the measuring tape for longest HRs surrendered as Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and some other midwestern scruffy faced Caucasian-with-attitude all homered off of the alleged groundball inducing Virginia Tech graduate (see what I did there, I implied his egghead status had something to do with his gutless pitching, you know, the rampant anti-intellectualism of sports and all...), and Saunders seemed miffed that he was not the anointed complete game Koufax of the 21st century. Joe's body language was basically speaking like a preschooler.
THE GOOD: Torii Hunter hits an opposite field two-run HR to the RF seats to breathe some life into the project.
THE BAD: Juan Rivera is goosegging it early...
THE UGLY: Did I bag on Saunders enough?
ANYTHING ELSE? Erick Aybar plate discipline is more important to this team than the Rolling Stones were to the 1960s.

Stokes and Palmer both looked great
linkbruin - April 6, 2010
so did the entire stadium in red snuggies
actually, i thought to myself, this stadium should be this red all the time
ryanb517 - April 7, 2010
Agree.
Stokes was hitting 94 mph with the fastball and 85 mph with the curve. In his two innings of work the Twins didn’t get the ball out of the infield.
Palmer had his sinker working and his velocity was in the 90-to-91 mph range.
Fan Since 1981 - April 7, 2010
Saundo gets the goose here...
but ill bet he comes back strong next time around
BigBangRobbDawgg - April 6, 2010
Can't blame the snuggies.
Team performance improved dramatically after the record was set.
Really though, we all know Hokie Joe is better than he pitched in the early innings today. Let’s turn the page, and hope Voodoo brings his Black Magic tomorrow.

Meh.
…
yay for the bullpen?
clover_black - April 6, 2010
no blame love for matsui?
i know he was the hero yesterday but 0-3 with 4 lob seems like he should at least be a choice even though id still vote for saundo
sctrojan13 - April 6, 2010
Dang
Saunders got shelled. K-Mo Gets blame too. But oh well i guess. Theres 160 more games…haha MLB network is bagging on the snuggies.
M.Napoli For President in 2012 - April 6, 2010
k-mo didnt do well but matsui was worse
k-mo didnt leave anyone on base

Hey Chuckles,
How was your off season and life in Corona?
halofolife - April 6, 2010
There is life in Corona?
44FAN - April 6, 2010
Corona's a nice place 44.
Situated between the dairy farms in Norco and Chino, and the overpriced homes of Yorba Linda and Chino Hills. Plus it’s the closest city in the IE to the Big A.
halofolife - April 6, 2010
ahh Corona doesn't smell as bad as Norco.
should be our slogan.
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
Brother,
Nothing smells as bad as Norco. Don’t forget, I grew up in the IE as well. ;)
halofolife - April 6, 2010
ROFLs
I go to the community college in norco and there are fuckin horses right across the parking lot, shits wild dude. Norco for the lose.
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
which college is in Norco?
RCC?
halofolife - April 6, 2010
yup but they are branching off the whole RCC norco campus title. I think its going to be called the Norco Community College.
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
I work at another college/University here in the IE.
I heard rumors that the Norco satellite campus would at some point become its own campus. The students in the low desert are trying to branch off from CSU San Bernardino, and I hear that the UCR campus will try the same in Indian wells.
halofolife - April 6, 2010
they said they’d get more money if they established themselves as an individual college. At least I think thats what its all about.
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
Yeah, I won't mention where I work. But if you read between the lines,
You’ll know. The scuttlebutt I hear, is that there isn’t alot of money to go around, therefore alot of satellite campus’ are deciding to go on their own, and break the CSU and UC ties.
halofolife - April 6, 2010
They've been trying to branch off that CSU San Bernardino in the low desert for 6-7 years now
linkbruin - April 7, 2010
I keep my car windows rolled up around there. Especially in Chino.
What is going on with that 71 Fwy? It is so nice when you get on it going north but it always ends in a traffic jam.
44FAN - April 6, 2010
the 71 leads to no good if you ask me.
Pomona is the last place you’d want to stop to put gas. Goddamn cholos…
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
And doyer fans Chuckles.
Goddamn doyer fans AND cholos!
halofolife - April 6, 2010
I met some pretty cool doyer fans last friday, but yeah they got cocky fans. I kinda have a target on my back-the angels logo on the back on my car- and the friendly neighborhood cholos did not find that amusing.
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
Chuckles...
The friendly neighborhood doyer cholo fans wouldn’t find George Carlin or Richard Pryor amusing. Not even if Redd Foxx opened up for them, with a car that sported a Halo logo, owned by Mother Theresa.
halofolife - April 6, 2010

The only time the 71 is nice, is around Corona or Ontario, when you’re getting away from the dairy farms of Norco and Chino bro.

just fine all thanks to netflix.
SenorChuckles - April 6, 2010
C'mon people.
Sure we lost tonight, but it was only the second game of the year, and Snuggies are evil! the same people that purchase these abominations are the same people that go to Wal-Mart wearing cut off sweats, slow down to look at people changing flats on the freeway and believe that Dr. Phil is a real doctor, and eventually become red sux and skankee fans.

But this loss is all on him. Can’t give up 5 runs in 5 innings and expect to win. At least the bullpen’s doing pretty good so far.
foxpaw - April 6, 2010
The Aura of Snuggie Omnipotence
The excitement of breaking a nearly three week old Snuggie world record was obviously more than this team could handle. Maybe they should have passed out a less powerful talisman, like the Matsui Sham Wow.
Quad Fin Rider - April 6, 2010
Clearly, they were in over their heads.
The fools…toying with power like that.
moosemastr - April 6, 2010
4-5-6 hitters gave us one walk and that was it
I assume it was some sort of protest against those god awful snuggies. Seriously though, if Aybar and Abroo are going to table set then the big guns (Hunter excluded, obviously) need to come through in some way. Also, Saundo looked like hell. Let’s work some black magic tomorrow.
Teixeira Who? - April 6, 2010
Time to cut Mathis.
Let’s face facts, his CERA is killing this team. He know has a 4.00 Cera on the year. We’re a .500 ballclub with him behind the plate in 2010.
What is the Soth waiting for? This is not most luminous. Give us Naps. And when we wake put Mike Naploli in the game.
snowhor - April 6, 2010 via mobile
Put in Wilson!
ryanfea - April 6, 2010
With Napoli behind the plate,
we’re a .000 ball club in 2010.

Undefeated with Naps behind the plate.
Just saying.
snowhor - April 7, 2010

howiestheman - April 6, 2010
Saunders
Had a BP fastball tonight. But what about pinch hitting for mathis? What was the deal there? Should Have had Izzy lead it off then mathis or even Nap. Wood has not been doing good. I know its early but last night he had fastballs BLOWN by him as there was a few tonight also. I say tomorows game should have izzy at third and Nap behind the dish.
M.Napoli For President in 2012 - April 6, 2010
All of us Mike Napoli fans are so wonderfully level-headed.
44FAN - April 6, 2010
ya
But is Skipper afraid of power? Becasue nap is cabable of putting up at least 30 homers a year with a everyday job
M.Napoli For President in 2012 - April 6, 2010
Mathis is on a two-game hitting streak.
How can you take him out now?
Downing Rules - April 7, 2010
Is that a career high?
snowhor - April 7, 2010 via mobile
Ya THINK it's early?
The dude is 8 ABs into the season…let me say that again 8 ABs into the season.
CC Sabathia is sporting an ugly 5 something ERA.
Teixiera is 0 for 9. Meaning he has fewer hits than Wood. Should the Yanks bench him, too?
Clutch - April 7, 2010
Wood for CC and Teix!
~MMP~ - April 7, 2010
Napoli
Napoli is, well, just a lot better than Mathis. This is a fact established over the previous 4 years. It’s a shame that he has had to sit on the bench for the first 2 games. Put him in already.
But I say stick with Wood. Unlike Mathis, who we know is a .200 hitter, Brandon might be good. He deserves a full chance to prove himself. Not a few games, a few months. If he’s still not hitting by July then we can say he doesn’t have it. But I still believe he can play.
RallyMonkey5 - April 7, 2010
I wasn't saying anything about Napoli...
I agree, put him in!
Clutch - April 7, 2010
I was at the game
and I must say that it was great to see all those red snuggies on during the fifth inning. Not only were we the biggest crowd to wear fleece but we busted out the biggest fleece wave ever. Too bad we lost. Saundo’s best inning was the 5th and noone in attendance wss paying attention.
Anaheim71420 - April 6, 2010 via mobile

-1 on the snuggie greatness
Are you the marketing genius who thunk up this idea? It was a great idea … if you think a pet rock or a jumping to conclusions mat is a great idea.
Downing Rules - April 7, 2010
Truth be told Downing
I took the snuggle off as soon as the record was set. My wife’s 8 year old slept in the damn thing. The record was cool but the best part was seeing the entire stadium in red (you could say a sea of red, waves and all).
Anaheim71420 - April 7, 2010 via mobile
+1 on the "sea of red."
That must have been cool, though.

"go-go Bar"
Considering his enhanced likelihood of going to 1st (via hit or walk) and going 1st to 3rd (even stole 3rd a couple ’o times in ST).
Oh, and of course, his rockin’, on-field dance skills as highlighted here…
LAASurfin - April 7, 2010
In other news
It took Seattle and Oakland 10 innings to score a total of three runs. The Mariners even got their run off of a wild pitch with a run on third (the batter struck out to end the inning just afterward).
Not exactly Mauer and Morneau. Joe says bring ’em on.
Suboptimal - April 7, 2010
The Mariner back end of the rotation is showing itself.
And the offense is really pretty bad actually.
44FAN - April 7, 2010
They're pretty much all back-end right now
Without Cliff Lee, #2 through #4 goes Ryan Rowland-Smith, Ian Snell, Doug Fister, and Jason Vargas. So that’s a converted reliever, a guy the Pirates dumped, some dude with 61 career IP, and I’m not actually sure who Jason Vargas is.
Suboptimal - April 7, 2010

Game 2
rough !st inning…but Joe settled down a little…I’m cool with it – we fought back and I am really pleased that Aybar is getting on base – makes losing Figgy easier…but those snuggle things? I thought by getting rid of Hud we were classing up the operation…what’s next, Halo Red eye patches brought to you by Visine? It was bush league…
OK, so we’re not going 162-0…I am still projecting 100 wins, and Halos magic number is 122 to clinch…see all tonight on FSW…
ps – Angels Live flashed a pic of ass wipe Lackey in a green BoSox uniform- thought I was going to throw up….

I HATE watching the Angels lose
I can’t even watch ESPN or any kind of news because everybody loves when they lose. That being said Stokes looked awesome! And Woody got his first hit baby! If he can keep his front shoulder closed and keep driving the ball to right he’ll be fine. Matsui ehh, Abrew looked awful, Rivera looked awful, The Hunter delivered again! Aybar is very quickly making me forget about the little guy up in Warshington. Let’s take it tonight and hope Santana has a solid outing!
angelskid2210 - April 7, 2010

its the damn east coast bias. Plus, they hate that the halos are always competitive and always win the West.

I don't see how Rivera qualifies as "the bad"
He at least has a hit and an RBI through the first two games and was a few feet shy of a homerun last night. That’s more than Abreu or Wood has done so far and I don’t think either of them needs to be criticized and they are both more deserving than Rivera.
