I can’t believe this guy couldn’t stick on anywhere. When we found him, he was closing in the Dominican Republic. Is the Giants bullpen so good they could afford to dump him or did they just not know what they had?
It’s more the Butcher magic than anything, methinks.
When we got him, Palmer had been in the majors for a few brief stints and compiled something like an 8.53 ERA. A 30-year old rookie with that kind of record is not going to stick on with any team at the major league level—and, in fact, the Angels did not intend for him to do so, as he was signed to a minor-league deal and was in the organization purely as organizational depth in case of emergency. Emergency is exactly what the Angels got in 2009, in many more ways than one, and Palmer happened to seize his chance—due in no small part to good run support and help from Butcher with his mechanics, methinks.
That said, I’d love to see Palmer’s success continue at the major league level, hopefully with the Angels, for a long, long time to come.
Rodney threw 7 balls, and 2 or 3 strikes last night
And had no k’s. Yeah it’s only one game, but their stats aren’t the same. (other than the fact that they’ve both thrown a scoreless inning). Rodney just seems to have some control issues at this point; hopefully they get relieved.
i like this part of the lineup coming up. Kendry’s solid, good BA and power, Rivera, as long as gets it out of the infield and Kendrick, all three tough outs.
