I’m thinking of dressing my little daughter in her Rally Monkey onesie even though it’s still way too big for her. We’re just watching on t.v. though, 200 miles north.
It’s all this texting/facebook shit
The kids act like they’re addicted—is it that way with you 20-something’s out there too? (Of course, I’m obsessed with HH, so there ya go…)
It took me a while to warm up to texting, but I sure find it convenient now. Especially for communicating with other dudes, you never have to actually talk on the phone. It’s the ultimate in efficiency. For example, I text, “b there at 830,” my buddy texts back, “k,” and we’re done.
Are any of the HH regulars going to loiter or dwell on the patio or anything? And are there any distinguishing characteristics that will enable me to identify this ‘brigade’?
We’re on the downside, very close to 30 side of our 20’s. Only got into it once at Angel Stadium and that was cause a RedSux fan was being obnoxious. The situation was defused and all went on to enjoy the game.
And while friendly chiding between opponents’ fans is fun, I generally have a mutual respect for Twinkies fans, they’re usually pretty classy.
SBNation should add querying votes in the Power Search function. I’d like to look up and expose the knuckleheads and doorknobs voting for Jackie (4 to this point).
Arte has been a blessing from the Heavens in these days of screwed up ownership groups. Gene Autry was incredible as well, it was just unfortunate that he never got to see the team win with such regular frequency as what we’ve come accustomed.
We had our ‘spring training tailgate’ Friday night.
It’s a good thing it was only ST – I forgot the trash bag for the tailgate and the sunflower seeds for the game.
For a hometown hero with as much hype as he had to come in to his first ever big league game—where the hometown crowd is AUDIBLY CHANTING HIS NAME as he steps to the plate—and hit a three-run lead-grabbing shot is the stuff legends are made of.
We need a big-assed aftershock to welcome the Twinkies to California!
Let’s thank them for giving Minnesota Winter Weather to all of baseball for the next 20 years.
In fact, every ballpark they visit should give them a taste of a local disaster. Kansas City can offer up a twister nearby. Tampa Bay can give them a hurricane. Boston can introduce them to their women.
(And, yeah, I know that technically it is still Fall until 12/20 of each year.)
I was supposed to go tonight, had the tickets, but then gave them to a buddy of mine that just got married. So, i’ll be watching in the comfort of my own home, minus my kids with a full keg. It could be worse.
I got hooked, but they are hit and miss with the stock. I picked up a case at the Firestone Brewery outside of Paso Robles on one road trip. And another case at a brewery just off hwy 246 in Buellton on another road trip. Always on the lookout.
My oldest just finished a Spring Break road trip to the Gulf Shores of Alabama, swinging through Louisiana twice. He stopped in the town of Abita on the way back. Yep. Picked me up a 12-pack sampler right form the brewery itself. Gonna be a good game…
And I’m just yanking your chain, I’m a bit miffed about it too. Among other things, that means naps is a write-in vote yet again on the all-star ballot, so much for getting him in this year.
I can only assume, but it was working just fine when all the games were going on at 6 o'clock.
Not sure why it’s crapping out right as we hit Angels game time.

I would have picked Arte, but the beard drives me away..
vlad IS my man - April 5, 2010
Tough call on "best" owner.
It’s hard to slight Gene Autry, but I can’t argue with how Arte has run the team.
so, Arte is “best”, Gene Autry is “favorite”.
sothball - April 5, 2010
Who's gonna be at the game?
I’ll probably be trolling around in left field with cupie and his Pride Brigade
yeswecan - April 5, 2010
rainbow flag type of pride brigade?
not that there is anything wrong with that…
Rev Halofan - April 5, 2010
no rainbows, actually
And maybe an unnecessarily long story. Better to consider it to be like a pride of lions — except they’re panthers.
yeswecan - April 5, 2010
Panther
halofan4life - April 5, 2010
I'll be there
Taking my son to his first ballgame. He will be rocking his “My First Angels Tee” T-shirt and Angels gilligan. Jumbotron-bound, boyeee
Higz - April 5, 2010
Thats great
TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
Awesome
I’m thinking of dressing my little daughter in her Rally Monkey onesie even though it’s still way too big for her. We’re just watching on t.v. though, 200 miles north.
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
That would be sweet
Higz - April 5, 2010
I checked.
Still way too big. Dang it! Grow, baby, grow!
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
The kids and I will be 100 miles away
rushing back from water polo to catch the opening on the tube.
Now that Vlady’s gone, we’re working on a new cheer: “GODZILLA!!!!”
Raaddad - April 5, 2010
You aren’t going to simply drop the kids off at the pool?
Downing Rules - April 5, 2010
Ha! I promised we'd be back for the opening
Son of Raaddad would kill me if I left him in the pool
(or least refuse to help me with my endless computer problems)
Raaddad - April 5, 2010
and he doesn't have a car yet? or is he to young to drive
TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
He's 13, brother; Daughter of Raaddad is 11
Of course, he’ll be texting his 6 girlfirends during the game this year…
Boy have times changed…
I had like ONE girlfriend until I was 19
Raaddad - April 5, 2010
6 at once?? WOW somethings up lol. Or is it 6 in the year haha
TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
He will probably have two baby mommas by 16.
44FAN - April 5, 2010
Tell me about it
It’s all this texting/facebook shit
The kids act like they’re addicted—is it that way with you 20-something’s out there too? (Of course, I’m obsessed with HH, so there ya go…)
Raaddad - April 5, 2010
It sure isn't that way for me. (I am addicted to SBN boards and sports in general though)
TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
I'm 32.

Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
Yea, very efficient
But the kids use both tech devises in an unending exchange of pleasantries and BS—until we (parents) get sick of it and take it away
Raaddad - April 5, 2010
Can't wait to see what they come up with next.
My daughter is 5 months old. We’ll see what new tech is invented to suck her brains away by the time she’s a tween.

INW, Make sure you hassle the hell outa any Twins fans

Jackie Autry?
She ran this club with all vision and business acumen that you’d expect of a former bank teller.
Quad Fin Rider - April 5, 2010
Good God...
someone actually voted for her.

Rev Halofan - April 5, 2010
Pass along the request:
SBNation should add querying votes in the Power Search function. I’d like to look up and expose the knuckleheads and doorknobs voting for Jackie (4 to this point).

TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
Yeah, I think I'm gonna fork out the 20 dollars for that so I can listen to Terry Smith all summer.
Good times.
halofan4life - April 5, 2010
I did.
Wish I could afford the TV package. Oh well. I have Terry.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010

TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
I would think so but idk if they make them a littl earlier so they can have some for opening day or not.
TheAngelsColts - April 5, 2010
I have to say
this Jayson Heyward story makes me smile.
For a hometown hero with as much hype as he had to come in to his first ever big league game—where the hometown crowd is AUDIBLY CHANTING HIS NAME as he steps to the plate—and hit a three-run lead-grabbing shot is the stuff legends are made of.

They don't all have mustaches
Some have beards.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
The beards I can deal with.
It’s their chest hair and tails that turn me off.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
It's generally not a tail...

adirondackangelfan - April 5, 2010
Can't wait for the game.
I was supposed to go tonight, had the tickets, but then gave them to a buddy of mine that just got married. So, i’ll be watching in the comfort of my own home, minus my kids with a full keg. It could be worse.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Yeah, it could be.
I could be at your place, and that keg would not be enough!
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
But Stirrups,
I also have tequila and Jack, and I only live 5 minutes from Pechanga, we’d be cool.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, or Extra Anejo?
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
Reposado. And a bottle of Jack.
2 kegs and some Dimetapp if that isn’t enough. ;)
halofolife - April 5, 2010
You meet the minimum req.
See you at 7pm. Don’t start without me.
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
Stop at The Hat first.
I want a pastrami sandwich.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Chili fries with that?
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
Do you even have to ask? ;)
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Yeah, I do.
Some guys prefer the onion rings. Knaves.
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
I ate at the Hat per Stirrups recommend and could'nt believe how good it was.
I took my mom who lives in a nursing home and we have trouble getting her to eat enough food. She ate a whole pastrami sandwich.
44FAN - April 5, 2010
I dig your mom.
Mine passed away last year so let me know if your mom ever wants to trade up to a cooler son.
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
Thanks, but I doubt she would trade me for anything.
44FAN - April 5, 2010
Good boy. Well played.
But I am gonna hold off on my other diner and dive recommendations until I meet her. No more letting you take all the credit!!
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
I did indeed tell her you recommended we try the Hat!
44FAN - April 5, 2010
Whoa. A whole pastrami sandwich.
Your mom is a machine! I know you’re proud 44.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Depends on the brand.
Natty Ice?
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
Not since high school.
Or when I don’t feel like getting the premium beers. But I actually do like Natty Ice and even Natty Light.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Coors Light
FTW
princeton11loveshalos - April 5, 2010
Beer snob here.
It’s gotta be over $1 per bottle for it to touch my lips. Newcastle, Firestone, and a bunch of microbrew stuff
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
Rally, I still drink 40's every once in awhile.
If it’s cold and with alcohol, i’ll drink it.
halofolife - April 5, 2010
Classy.
I had my days of a Mickey’s in each hand.
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010

princeton11loveshalos - April 5, 2010
Red Nectar Ale? The old Humboldt Brewery stuff?
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
My recent fav is Eye of the Hawk
Mendecino Brewing Co. I’ve also been liking Stone IPA.
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
Not an IPA fan.
IMHO, I prefer the balance. Bowing to the Hoppiness Gods ain’t my thing.
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
Yeah, a year ago I didn't dig IPA's as much.
Some have grown on me, but I still prefer an amber ale.
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
Imma two into a 12 pack of Heineken right now.
Go Angels!
44FAN - April 5, 2010
Also, Trader Joes
sells a Bock that’s great. And their prices are unbeatable. And you can buy singles.
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
That's where I found the Red Nectar.
I got hooked, but they are hit and miss with the stock. I picked up a case at the Firestone Brewery outside of Paso Robles on one road trip. And another case at a brewery just off hwy 246 in Buellton on another road trip. Always on the lookout.
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
All this talk of beer!
I gotta go hit up the store really quick. I’ll be with you in spirit Stirrups and friends. TRADITION!!!
Rally Manatee - April 5, 2010
Old mother Hubbard's cupboard is bare at my casa...
I have to make a beer run, as well.
Downing Rules - April 5, 2010
I am in luck.
My oldest just finished a Spring Break road trip to the Gulf Shores of Alabama, swinging through Louisiana twice. He stopped in the town of Abita on the way back. Yep. Picked me up a 12-pack sampler right form the brewery itself. Gonna be a good game…
Stirrups - April 5, 2010
Trader Jose's
Very comparable to Corona. Bud Ice 5.5% alcohol will get u fudged up. Me thinks it’s about that time.
Anaheim71420 - April 5, 2010 via mobile
Trader Joe's
Go get some Simpler Times. $3 a 6-pack. Lager or Pilser. 6.6% alcohol. A very beautiful thing..

Here's to the first
of just another Halo victories for Rory this season!

so stoked for tonight
im going on thursday too. any hh members that will be part of the world record breaking tomorrow night?
AnaheimHalos61 - April 5, 2010
I'll be there
with Mrs. Anaheim and her lil sister with best name ever…Angel. They say it will be the first of many records this year.
Anaheim71420 - April 5, 2010 via mobile
MATHIS gets the brick
Opening day starters get the brick outside the stadium. Jeff Mathis will be there in perpetuity or until the next radical redesign.
Rev Halofan - April 5, 2010
Well shucks that is awful damn decent of them.
44FAN - April 5, 2010
Woody get his first brick too
I didn’t know about that either. That is cool of them. The wife is getting me one this year.
Anaheim71420 - April 5, 2010 via mobile
Mr. Angel is on AM830 now.

Epic Dean - April 5, 2010
Can I be pissed off about Jeff Mathis starting already?
mattwelch - April 5, 2010
not until after his first AB
then the hate-fest can begin
princeton11loveshalos - April 5, 2010
I thought we had pretty much accepted that Mathis is Weaver's personal catcher at this point?
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
Not me, no
Mathis is no different than Napoli in catching Weaver, over their careers. Santana is the only one with a consistent demonstrable advantage.
Though it’s also true that Weaver’s easy to steal on, so maybe you want the better thrower back there.
mattwelch - April 5, 2010
I dunno. I do remember that post about it though.
And I’m just yanking your chain, I’m a bit miffed about it too. Among other things, that means naps is a write-in vote yet again on the all-star ballot, so much for getting him in this year.
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
I say yes
Especially since Napoli was one option to win me my pregame pick.
We can hope that the Mighty Jeff Mathis from last post-season shows up and that he refrains from flinging the ball into the outfield. . .

Zu Long - April 5, 2010

A good friend of mine got totally blitzed at a bar off of Mills Civic Pkwy (I guess that is West DM).
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
This last weekend
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
It is West Des Moines, and if I spent a lot of time in bars
I might even know which one.
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
She wants me to come and visit...
…so…I might be visiting DSM soon enough.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
Is she hot?
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
Yes.
Very much so.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
Is she available?
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
Only if you beat me to her.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
Well shit.
If you need a job out here BTW, Nationwide is hiring pretty much constantly.
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
I've been looking up there.
I’ll check out Nationwide, thanks. I’ve landed a term gig here in Atlanta with the Feds, but I’m always looking for something more.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
It's call center work, but you get licensed as a real live insurance agent
and all the calls are from people who need help. You don’t have to sell anything at least.
Zu Long - April 5, 2010
Very excellent
I was a marketing director (paid as a coordinator though) for an insurance company before being laid off last year. I’m looking to start over anyhow.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010

Zu Long - April 5, 2010

Interesting proposition. But shouldn’t my witty banter here earn me a rec? LOL.
Slasher52 - April 5, 2010
Normally yes, but I'm getting desperate.
Zu Long - April 5, 2010

So am I. Self preservation wins. These Southern women just aren’t attracted to a clean cut West Coaster. I do better with those Upper Midwesterners.
