It's a big deal to teachers too.

Here in Long Beach, us teachers are being pink-slipped based on district service time. It’s so tight that seniority is being calculated based on the time of day you were hired. Oops, this is an Angel thread. Sorry, I’m kinda new at this. Won’t happen again.

best posting name on the site

Welcome to the sight. i mean SITE, who goofed I’ve got to know!

Thank you Rev

You run a first class operation here.
Long live Jim Healy!

That's just plain poppycock

ah thats a bunch of bull!

wiping away a nostalgic tear
Did the japanese sit down and have dinner with Pearl Harbor ...

God, how I miss the Healy show.

Especially for exposing Lasorda for being the foul-mouthed moron that he is.

after Jerome Brown died

he never played that clip again

Heaky was a class act

he was quite old school and proper, though.

He called the show Married with Children “MARRIED WITH SMUT” in a disgusted, disdainful tenor.

My favorites...

I’ve forgotten more about this f*bleep*en game than all you people combined are ever gonna know…

Bad team man, it’s just a bad f*bleep*en team…

any chance you work at roosevelt elementary?
no on Roosevelt
ya voted for Hoover?

and you killed Jesus." -Raoul Duke

Trying to figure out a good nickname for your screen name is going to make this a fun season
VICTOR

The quote about the lovely lady was by Victor Kiam. Trivia time: To what lady is he referring?

Marge Schott

former owner of the Cincinnati Reds

nope

guess again

lisa olson

I will never use sbnation as a reliable source for information again.

close

the “lovely lady” was a reporter covering Kiam’s Patriots during the 1986 postseason who was sexually harrassed int he locker room while trying to do her job.

Melissa Stark
Aw blow it out!

Actually, I kinda like Victor.

I'm nicknaming him

Kobe

I'd take Kobe's all-around game, I'll tell you that.

I’d take his b-ball skills too.

I'd take his diamond purchasing abilities
Only in hell is Q a Vet

God save us all it is another sign of the apocalypse.

I am coming L. Ron Hubbard, save me a seat on the space ship between Tom Cruise and John Travolta

I'm gonna sit next to Leah Remini and Kelly Preston. ;)
Sorry.

I already reserved that seat, but there is a spot next to Kirstie Alley, if you can find it.

someone kick BECK off that plane

still bummed when I found out he was on that flight

Why?

He’ll show you his two turntables and his microphone.

You guys joke, but man...

…in one of my many past lives, I spent a year as a vendor working 3 days a week INSIDE Sea Org. My company’s team reported directly to David Miscavige.

I still can get all absolutely depressed when I think back on the human abuse I witnessed. Truly frightening. Truly dangerous.

props

one of the most technical posts related to scito on the internet lol (read lonely squirrel GOOGLE IT!!)

:D

Well Slasher, If you already reserved that seat,

I’ll squeeze in between Forest Whitaker and J-Lo.

Ok, sounds good.

First Bloody Mary is on me!

No Slasher.

The first Bloody Mary’s are on Leah Remini and Kelly Preston.

Halofolife

FTW.

FOREST WHITAKER!?

Oh hell no!

I haven’t even gotten over Beck!

I can't find a ton of substantiation for it

so I’m gonna stick my fingers in my ears and pretend this isn’t happening.

Will Smith.

… who else …

Rumors persist

that Mat Gleason is amongst their ranks.

oh fuck no

no f-bomb burnt in making a strong denial to that shit.

He would be Commodore Halofan

if that were true.

Dad of Vlad

Your comments kill me sometimes. Well done.

I write form my heart

that is why there are spelling errors.
i am glad someone appreciates my truth telling

I am looking for a Xenu reference here.....
Xanado?

I love Olivia Newton John

Have you never been mellow?

Because a song called “Have You EVER Been mellow” just doesn’t properly convey the wondrous yet subtle indignation over your total and unrelenting lack of mellow.

i met ONJ in person

9 years ago, she was tiny, definitely a spinner, and smoking hot and ridiculously nice.

That bitch single handedly doubled and tripled the rents on Melrose Ave. by

opening her stupid Koala Blue store there. By the next year all the other shop owners had to pay because of the publicity it brought which served her and nobody else except the greedy landlords.

The Jose Guillen Trade

Again looms large as one of the best disgruntled player trades ever.

Seriously.

Most of those trades end up being pretty bad(like Bradley for Silva) or just decent.

The Angels managed to get 2 pretty darn good players out of of the Guillen trade.

ol' man quinlan

dat ol’ man quinlan
he mus’know sumpin’
but dont say nuthin’
he jes’keeps rollin’
he keeps on rollin’ along

This is when a GM has a task that is not talked about much...

He MUST be the boss WRT roster construction – Quinlan shouldn’t have been signed – that is completely on Reagins.

He must create a roster that is free from crappy players and players that might be hard for the manager to objectively analyze.

I suspect Scioscia had a LOT to do with keeping Quinlan on the team.
Q is the only Angels player I actually truly hate

I can’t recall hating a player on any team I like as passionately as I do/have that waste of money, roster spot, skin (you get the point)

Solution?

When Willits or Kazmir come off the DL will we need to make space for them? If so (please God!) I have a candidate. They could even have a contest where the winner gets to break the news to him via an interpreter that speaks retard. Is Mota trilingual.

You're kinda going over the top here.

I get you dislike him as a player, but calling him a retard and stuff like that is just unnecessary

agree

in the words of Saint PAtrick:

MAYBE, it’s not too late,
to learn how to love and forget how to hate.

OH… sorry those are the words of Ozzy Osbourne…

Have you ever thought of GMJ, Rene Gonzalez?
Steve Finley ... Sheah Hillebrand

Mo Vaughn

Chris Bootcheck
Good point

But at least I don’t have to watch his flamboyant self anymore.

lol! Q

Im beggining to think the Angels are Q and 24 others haha

Couldn't agree more.

I hate to say I hate an Angels Player, but I can’t stand Q! Why is he back!!!

The reasoning for Q, straight from the horse's mouth. From the official Angels website.
Quinlan making the roster was also somewhat of a surprise, considering the fact that he was signed to a Minor League contract and batted just .176 this spring, while Aldridge hit .395 and Ryan hit .256.

But Scioscia liked the fact that Quinlan, who is a career .281 hitter in parts of seven seasons with the Angels, has plenty of experience coming off the bench in the Majors and can play first base, third base and in the outfield.

“I think ‘Q’ is a guy who has some versatility,” Scioscia said. “He can play the corners and is more of a natural first baseman, and really that’s an important spot for us. ‘Q’ is a guy who can sit for a while and put the bat on the ball.”

Soth will stick with experience over a talented rookie any day of the week. That is just the way he is. Same thing when everyone was hollering for him to play Brandon Wood all through 2009.

Scioscia is blind to the faults of players that get dirty, try hard and have vet'run mojo...

Erstad, Quinlan, Mathis, S. Finley, Speier and others I’m forgetting, I’m sure.

I like a lot about Scioscia, but this coupled with his wacky-assed line-up construction are two of my biggest pet peeves.

Don't ever diss Darin Erstad

I never want to see his name listed among those other names ever again.

Erstad is appropriately on the list due to he fact soth kept playing him long after he was a useful player.

It’s not the point to slam erstad, just management’s decision not to use him properly.

I loved Erstad

but it takes an assload of grit and glovework to offset the 85 OPS+ (same as GMJ during his Angels tenure, albeit with defense and leadership) that Erstad put up for his last 6 seasons with us. An amount not even he would be capable of busing in.

Umm, we let Speier go.

And if I’m not mistaken, still paying for him. He doesn’t belong on that list.

I too can sit for a while.

And I am versatile in that I can suck at many positions, while still failing to hit in the major leagues.

Hey, I just noticed something … I am Q!

All Q hating aside

That’s an amazing picture of him. Poise. Agility. Follow-Through. His essence is all there.

Glad that "off-season overhaul" workout for Kaz worked out well...

blah.

Looks like Kaz may be just a spoke in the wheel along with the Bedards and Hardens of the world.

I hope not.

a hammy

ain’t a shoulder

I feel all better now
and Kaz will too

(hope hope hope hope hope)

a hammy AND...

tightness in the shoulder, earlier in spring training…

Q!!! I knew it. Gwad.

I was just telling my wife and brother today, “I just know they’re going to keep Q.” For the life of me, I don’t know why, but Sosh treats him like a son. We really would be fine with Izzy and Wilson covering the infield, and Aldridge and Evans covering the outfield. I see no evidence that Q can even hit a ML pitcher anymore.

I have no problem with Scioscia choosing Quinlan.

None!

I feel bad for Aldridge, Ryan, and Sandoval.

Scioscia's already got Kazmir pencilled in for April 13...........

The injury can’t be too serious.

One of the main reasons the Angels wanted Kazmir, was his relative success against the Yankees…..(and Seattle).

There’s more roster drama to come unless/until someone else gets hurt, or traded.

How come Rivera and Izzy aren't on the same day?
Juan was not an opening day starter

i guess…

Not to get too nitpicky

But service time is not time since a player’s first appearance. It’s the total number of days on the major league roster. For instance, this list makes Mathis look way higher on the totem pole than he actually is — Napoli didn’t debut until the next year, but he has almost a full year more of service time than Mathis. Weaver has also clocked quite a bit more time than Saunders.

That said, I still can’t believe Quinlan has been around since 2003. He’s not a totally useless player, but he’s marginal. Teams usually burn through half a dozen guys like him in the time he’s been around. I guess it shows you that Scioscia values stability over just about everything else.

Q was once a very effective hitter against lefties.

That is no longer true an hasn’t been for a long time now. You’re right he in no way deserves a spot on a major league roster, let alone a spot on a contender.

Q reminds me of a fatter, slower, less athletic, less useful version of Rex Hudler (as a player)...
Rex was a fuckin bad ass.

In the first Angels game I can remember going to, he mad a diving catch on the right field warning track for the third out of the inning. He just stood up, threw the ball in, and didn’t say a word to anyone. Didn’t even crack a smile. DIDN’T EVEN DUST OFF HIS JERSEY! From that moment, he became one of my heroes.

We must keep Q around

…if nothing else, he makes everyone else on the roster more appealing

Note that we stopped winning championships when Q came on board.

Coincidence? I think not.

Well in that case

I’m bummed that Kevin Appier didn’t retire as an Angel.

That's the spirit!
