It's a big deal to teachers too.
Here in Long Beach, us teachers are being pink-slipped based on district service time. It’s so tight that seniority is being calculated based on the time of day you were hired. Oops, this is an Angel thread. Sorry, I’m kinda new at this. Won’t happen again.

God, how I miss the Healy show.
Especially for exposing Lasorda for being the foul-mouthed moron that he is.
LazorkoRules - April 4, 2010
after Jerome Brown died
he never played that clip again
Moondoggy - April 4, 2010
Heaky was a class act
he was quite old school and proper, though.
He called the show Married with Children “MARRIED WITH SMUT” in a disgusted, disdainful tenor.

My favorites...
I’ve forgotten more about this f*bleep*en game than all you people combined are ever gonna know…
Bad team man, it’s just a bad f*bleep*en team…

Because a song called “Have You EVER Been mellow” just doesn’t properly convey the wondrous yet subtle indignation over your total and unrelenting lack of mellow.

9 years ago, she was tiny, definitely a spinner, and smoking hot and ridiculously nice.
Rev Halofan - April 4, 2010
That bitch single handedly doubled and tripled the rents on Melrose Ave. by
opening her stupid Koala Blue store there. By the next year all the other shop owners had to pay because of the publicity it brought which served her and nobody else except the greedy landlords.
44FAN - April 4, 2010
The Jose Guillen Trade
Again looms large as one of the best disgruntled player trades ever.
Slasher52 - April 3, 2010
Seriously.
Most of those trades end up being pretty bad(like Bradley for Silva) or just decent.
The Angels managed to get 2 pretty darn good players out of of the Guillen trade.
~MMP~ - April 3, 2010
ol' man quinlan
dat ol’ man quinlan
he mus’know sumpin’
but dont say nuthin’
he jes’keeps rollin’
he keeps on rollin’ along
clover_black - April 3, 2010
This is when a GM has a task that is not talked about much...
He MUST be the boss WRT roster construction – Quinlan shouldn’t have been signed – that is completely on Reagins.
He must create a roster that is free from crappy players and players that might be hard for the manager to objectively analyze.
jimmuscomp - April 3, 2010 via mobile
I suspect Scioscia had a LOT to do with keeping Quinlan on the team.
wumbug - April 4, 2010
Q is the only Angels player I actually truly hate
I can’t recall hating a player on any team I like as passionately as I do/have that waste of money, roster spot, skin (you get the point)
Anaheim71420 - April 3, 2010 via mobile
Solution?
When Willits or Kazmir come off the DL will we need to make space for them? If so (please God!) I have a candidate. They could even have a contest where the winner gets to break the news to him via an interpreter that speaks retard. Is Mota trilingual.
Anaheim71420 - April 3, 2010 via mobile
You're kinda going over the top here.
I get you dislike him as a player, but calling him a retard and stuff like that is just unnecessary
~MMP~ - April 4, 2010
agree
in the words of Saint PAtrick:
MAYBE, it’s not too late,
to learn how to love and forget how to hate.
OH… sorry those are the words of Ozzy Osbourne…
Rev Halofan - April 4, 2010
I'm not thrilled by Q
but I truly don’t understand the hate by many on this blog. Unless I was asleep at the switch, his numbers are not great and his defense is .. questionable, but he’s steady and he seems to be a solid citizen and just because people think Sandoval or some other candidate would be a better utility guy, too bad. Q’s just doing the best he can. I think it’s gutless to spew at Q, If there’s anybody at fault it’s Soth and/or Reagins. So hate them, or perhaps it takes too much courage to rage at the 11th best organization in baseball.
Moondoggy - April 4, 2010
Have you ever thought of GMJ, Rene Gonzalez?

lol! Q
Im beggining to think the Angels are Q and 24 others haha
Angels_48 - April 4, 2010
Couldn't agree more.
I hate to say I hate an Angels Player, but I can’t stand Q! Why is he back!!!
angelfanjb - April 4, 2010
The reasoning for Q, straight from the horse's mouth. From the official Angels website.
Soth will stick with experience over a talented rookie any day of the week. That is just the way he is. Same thing when everyone was hollering for him to play Brandon Wood all through 2009.
44FAN - April 4, 2010
Scioscia is blind to the faults of players that get dirty, try hard and have vet'run mojo...
Erstad, Quinlan, Mathis, S. Finley, Speier and others I’m forgetting, I’m sure.
I like a lot about Scioscia, but this coupled with his wacky-assed line-up construction are two of my biggest pet peeves.
jimmuscomp - April 4, 2010
Don't ever diss Darin Erstad
I never want to see his name listed among those other names ever again.
ryanfea - April 4, 2010
Erstad is appropriately on the list due to he fact soth kept playing him long after he was a useful player.
It’s not the point to slam erstad, just management’s decision not to use him properly.
snowhor - April 4, 2010 via mobile
I loved Erstad
but it takes an assload of grit and glovework to offset the 85 OPS+ (same as GMJ during his Angels tenure, albeit with defense and leadership) that Erstad put up for his last 6 seasons with us. An amount not even he would be capable of busing in.
Caseys Kiss of Death - April 4, 2010
Umm, we let Speier go.
And if I’m not mistaken, still paying for him. He doesn’t belong on that list.
Rally Manatee - April 4, 2010
I too can sit for a while.
And I am versatile in that I can suck at many positions, while still failing to hit in the major leagues.
Hey, I just noticed something … I am Q!
LazorkoRules - April 4, 2010
I'm Q too!
angels4adam - April 7, 2010
All Q hating aside
That’s an amazing picture of him. Poise. Agility. Follow-Through. His essence is all there.

tightness in the shoulder, earlier in spring training…
BryanHarvey'sMoustache - April 4, 2010
Q!!! I knew it. Gwad.
I was just telling my wife and brother today, “I just know they’re going to keep Q.” For the life of me, I don’t know why, but Sosh treats him like a son. We really would be fine with Izzy and Wilson covering the infield, and Aldridge and Evans covering the outfield. I see no evidence that Q can even hit a ML pitcher anymore.
Rally Manatee - April 4, 2010
I have no problem with Scioscia choosing Quinlan.
None!
I feel bad for Aldridge, Ryan, and Sandoval.
wumbug - April 4, 2010
Scioscia's already got Kazmir pencilled in for April 13...........
The injury can’t be too serious.
One of the main reasons the Angels wanted Kazmir, was his relative success against the Yankees…..(and Seattle).
There’s more roster drama to come unless/until someone else gets hurt, or traded.
wumbug - April 4, 2010
How come Rivera and Izzy aren't on the same day?
bc56274 - April 4, 2010
Juan was not an opening day starter
i guess…
Rev Halofan - April 4, 2010
We still had GA
Commander_Nate - April 5, 2010
Not to get too nitpicky
But service time is not time since a player’s first appearance. It’s the total number of days on the major league roster. For instance, this list makes Mathis look way higher on the totem pole than he actually is — Napoli didn’t debut until the next year, but he has almost a full year more of service time than Mathis. Weaver has also clocked quite a bit more time than Saunders.
That said, I still can’t believe Quinlan has been around since 2003. He’s not a totally useless player, but he’s marginal. Teams usually burn through half a dozen guys like him in the time he’s been around. I guess it shows you that Scioscia values stability over just about everything else.
Suboptimal - April 4, 2010
Q was once a very effective hitter against lefties.
That is no longer true an hasn’t been for a long time now. You’re right he in no way deserves a spot on a major league roster, let alone a spot on a contender.
snowhor - April 4, 2010 via mobile
Q reminds me of a fatter, slower, less athletic, less useful version of Rex Hudler (as a player)...
Balls and Strikes - April 5, 2010
less stoned
Downing Rules - April 5, 2010
Rex was a fuckin bad ass.
In the first Angels game I can remember going to, he mad a diving catch on the right field warning track for the third out of the inning. He just stood up, threw the ball in, and didn’t say a word to anyone. Didn’t even crack a smile. DIDN’T EVEN DUST OFF HIS JERSEY! From that moment, he became one of my heroes.
angels4adam - April 7, 2010
We must keep Q around
…if nothing else, he makes everyone else on the roster more appealing
The_Legend_Of_Wilfong - April 5, 2010
Note that we stopped winning championships when Q came on board.
Coincidence? I think not.
