took a Dodger fan. It was so cool to see our young guys pull it off. Even better to shut up the Dodger fans, they couldn’t believe they got beat by the AAA players.
Rivers is loving those IF pop-ups. However, I don’t mind it if he starts out slow. He’s usually a slow starter, and then rakes at the end of the season. Last year was the opposite. I’d rather have him start slow and end on fire..
Back in the 50s and 60s we thought he had a monster cardfile in the booth, and maybe an assistant who rummaged through them to find him the info he wanted.
Actually my favorite time to listen to him is during interleague play...
…when the Angels are putting a drubbing on the Doyers.
He will rip the Doyers something fierce and he’s one of the few announcers that can be so critical and get away with it. And I love hearing it when it happens ;)
Of course Chicky Baby used to have the same cache to do it with the Lakers.
this stupid HD broadcast is so high-contrast that all we get a re black splotch shadows from the brim of the caps obscuring everyone’s faces. WHAT A JOKE.
now got to go again be back later
(Rev so you know I did combine two lines for you since they still make sense but the other just doesn’t go allong with it)
seem to have a chance at winning the Opening Day Lineup Contest, based on what Soth has been doing with the lineup thus far. Both of these “winning” lineups are dependent on Napoli as the starting C. These two posters are V-Hawk Angelorum and Blaze453, neither of whom I’ve seen post much here at all.
Oh, up there the southern half of the state does not exist, unless something cataclysmic happens.
We moved there just before the Northridge earthquake, and I think that’s just about the only big news we heard about the whole time.
I hate the Giants with a passion that goes back to my childhood growing up in LA as a Dodger fan, and the Giants at the time I lived there had a terrible announcer, an older man who sounded like he was eating oatmeal, and my boss tried to tell me the guy was a great announcer. I laughed at him.
ever hearing the Giants announcer. My dad was a Dodgers fan, and me too, when they were in Brooklyn & when they moved out here. Giants were always “the enemy”!! Went to see Los Doyers at the Collesium and only once at Chavez . Then fell in love with the Angels and kicked the Dodgers to the curb; but have always been a Vin Scully fan.
Mom and Dad used to go to Dodgers games when the team first got to LA.
Then they went to couple of Angels games when they were in… the coliseum? and at Chavez Ravine, and Mom decided she loved the Angels. It took me a while to fall in love with the Angels; I sort of married into it.
Does anyone else notice that? His stance is different. He’s all of a sudden got an more open stance, has his hands a shade higher and is bending his knees more. It seems like his other batting stance was working alright.
Has anyone else noticed that? Is he trying to generate more pull power?
Q has zombie cat powers. He’s Schrodinger’s cat times infinity. He rides a pale horse, he’s white magic, and when his contract ends, all of baseball ends.
I’m actually half way of afraid of what would happen if I posted the Oakland one. PhiSlamma might try to find me to duke it out. That guys is a buttdart.
If I don’t want to read them, then I don’t look at them. It can get a little dullsville at times around here, so I don’t see the problem with posting whatever/whenever.
I tend to look at it from the PoV of the city. so long as there is balance I’m fine. Now it was a horrendous universal calamity when the pats, celtics, and red sox all won.
GO HALOS

Quinlan's Goofy Swing - April 3, 2010
I always wondered if his staff prepares them..
..before games or more likely…his brain is just so chock-full of them it’s scary.
Seems weird though that he’d know so much about some Angel players by just random reading/baseball conversations (at his age), but maybe.
Either way, it’s his delivery that makes them fun to hear. Although Mota is a close second )
RedFog - April 3, 2010
Meant to have a ((cough)) after the Mota statement :P
RedFog - April 3, 2010

Heh maybe now he just has a custom...
Android or iPhone app he uses ;)
I realize I don’t want to know. It’s the only thing from Doyer culture I enjoy. Always have enjoyed him and always will.
So maybe not knowing how he works is part of the magic…
RedFog - April 3, 2010
He does most of the research himself.
Apparently used to prepare a ton of these anecdotes with an hour or two of research before each game. Not sure how much he does these days.
But it’s not just the quantity of the anecdotes — it’s the quality. He just manages to come up with some truly wild ones along the way.
Turks Teeth - April 3, 2010
I do think people hand him stats and stories, but he does know a LOT about baseball.

What do u guys think of pin-yer-ohh?
HalosBiggestFan - April 3, 2010 via mobile
i want palmer
DAD OF VLAD - April 3, 2010
because of a bad half inning in spring training?
Pinata is a solid #5 who pitched better than lackey last year.
clover_black - April 3, 2010
Pinata did not go 11 - 1 for last season
palmer is a winner and i like winners
DAD OF VLAD - April 3, 2010
Ponson could go 11-1
with the run support Palmer gets.
Slyintine - April 3, 2010
the team believes in Palmer and gave him the support to get those wins

youre weird.

it is wrong to like Palmer

Quinlan's Goofy Swing - April 3, 2010

Seik1177 - April 3, 2010
why?
angelsfan7 - April 3, 2010
His ESPN style analysis

Seik1177 - April 3, 2010
Then how in the world do you feel about...
Gubi and Mota?!?
RedFog - April 3, 2010
Mota... don't get me started
Gubi doesn’t bug me as much because there is some one else in the booth to break it up
Seik1177 - April 3, 2010
It's cool, I can respect you not liking him...
…but hating him…seems impossible. Or not.
On the flip side, I don’t think I’ve ever seen some many people defend something Doyer-ish as just now ;)
RedFog - April 3, 2010
but he's talking positive about our guys. That's a HUGE plus for me.
angelsfan7 - April 3, 2010
I'm sorry
But his talking about Aybar reminded me of every Baseball Tonight analyst
Seik1177 - April 3, 2010
Historically backwards.
It’s like calling Eric Clapton “John Mayer-esque”.
Baseball Tonight scrubs may try to emulate Vin, but don’t confuse the echo for the voice.
Turks Teeth - April 3, 2010
yeah
calling Torii a role model and inspiration to others is really brutal
ladybug - April 3, 2010
"ESPN style"
Has to be the silliest description of Vin Scully I’ve heard in a long time.
The man’s been talking like this for three decades longer than ESPN has even been in existence.
Turks Teeth - April 3, 2010
+1. Will read again.
RedFog - April 3, 2010
Fine
Then I’ll say ESPN is doing Scully style analysis… that really a better statement?
Seik1177 - April 3, 2010
Sure. It makes more sense.
I don’t agree with it at all, but it actually has a logic to it.
Turks Teeth - April 3, 2010
O_o
RedFog - April 3, 2010
Hating Vin Scully is the equivalent to hating Mother Teresa

Dodgers fans are still making their way in the stadium and to their seats.

HalosBiggestFan - April 3, 2010 via mobile
How has Brandon Wood looked this spring?
Is this guy going to be any good, or is he the next Dallas McPherson?
bc56274 - April 3, 2010
He looks a lot more comfortable.
Being fairly patient, using all fields. Great defense at the hot corner. I think he will do at least decent, if not great this year..
b0rd3rline - April 3, 2010
Wood has been pretty good
Hasn’t batted a lot in. But he’s been getting on base a lot. Good solid hitting and he’s learning to get those strikeouts down.
His pitch recognition is progressing. I think it helps a lot that he’s around Abreu and Matsui.
Defensively, he’s been very solid.

Who is the third? Is Scioscia making a comeback?
bc56274 - April 3, 2010

Well, the game doesn't count, you know.

DAD OF VLAD - April 3, 2010
"At Night Chinamen Jump" by Frank O'Hara
At night Chinamen jump
on Asia with a thump
while in our willful way
we, in secret, play
affectionate games and bruise
our knees like China’s shoes.
The birds push apples through
grass the moon turns blue,
these apples roll beneath
our buttocks like a heath
full of Chinese thrushes
flushed from China’s bushes.
As we love at night
birds sing out of sight,
Chinese rhythms beat
through us in our heat,
the apples and the birds
move us like soft words,
we couple in the grace
of that mysterious race.
And thus concludes our poetry minute on Halos Heaven.

seem to have a chance at winning the Opening Day Lineup Contest, based on what Soth has been doing with the lineup thus far. Both of these “winning” lineups are dependent on Napoli as the starting C. How close or far off were you guys?

opiejeanne - April 3, 2010
That's Vinny!!!
The best in the business.
angels_rally_mom - April 3, 2010
Yes he is.
I sojourned for 9 lonely years just south of Oakland and my boss was a Giants fan. He’s probably the only person who had never heard of Vinny. Idiot.
opiejeanne - April 3, 2010
He must
have been living on Mars all his life…Dodgers DID play the Giants a COUPLE of times~~ agreed…idiot~~~
angels_rally_mom - April 3, 2010
Oh, up there the southern half of the state does not exist, unless something cataclysmic happens.
We moved there just before the Northridge earthquake, and I think that’s just about the only big news we heard about the whole time.
I hate the Giants with a passion that goes back to my childhood growing up in LA as a Dodger fan, and the Giants at the time I lived there had a terrible announcer, an older man who sounded like he was eating oatmeal, and my boss tried to tell me the guy was a great announcer. I laughed at him.
opiejeanne - April 3, 2010
I don't remember
ever hearing the Giants announcer. My dad was a Dodgers fan, and me too, when they were in Brooklyn & when they moved out here. Giants were always “the enemy”!! Went to see Los Doyers at the Collesium and only once at Chavez . Then fell in love with the Angels and kicked the Dodgers to the curb; but have always been a Vin Scully fan.
angels_rally_mom - April 3, 2010
Mom and Dad used to go to Dodgers games when the team first got to LA.
Then they went to couple of Angels games when they were in… the coliseum? and at Chavez Ravine, and Mom decided she loved the Angels. It took me a while to fall in love with the Angels; I sort of married into it.
opiejeanne - April 3, 2010

hi. :-)
b0rd3rline - April 3, 2010
yup...that be me!!
angels_rally_mom - April 3, 2010
Rally mom, Figgins would have hopped up on the dugout roof...
…did a backflip, mooned the McCourts, and then snatched that ball out of the air like a baby chick from a branch-perched nest.
Turks Teeth - April 3, 2010
LMAO!!
He would do that for sure!! FIGGY!!!
angels_rally_mom - April 3, 2010
What the Hell is Wood doing?
Does anyone else notice that? His stance is different. He’s all of a sudden got an more open stance, has his hands a shade higher and is bending his knees more. It seems like his other batting stance was working alright.
Has anyone else noticed that? Is he trying to generate more pull power?
Halowood - April 3, 2010
Yeahhh Shields
angelsfan7 - April 3, 2010
YESSSSSSSSS Brandon
angelsfan7 - April 3, 2010

no more Figgy bashing….geeeeze..have to watch the mariners to see him…that is totally heartbreaking!!! I miss him…he has spunk!!!
angels_rally_mom - April 3, 2010
It's not Figgy bashing
It’s physics, Wood has 6 inches of Figgy and was able to stretch himself over that wall, Figgy’s body would be incapable
Halowood - April 3, 2010
You haven't seen Figgy parkour.
