about 2 years ago: ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 28: Howie Kendrick #47 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lays down a bunt with two out in the ninth inning to score Torii Hunter from third base with the winning run against the Cleveland Indians on April 28, 2010 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. The Angels won 4-3. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)
Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 4, Indians 3 ...In a game that neither team seemed to be able to give away late, Howie Kendrick sent the first pitch from Cleveland reliever Chris Perez in between the pitcher and the 1Bman and Torii Hunter jogged home to break a 3-3 tie with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th. Ervin Santana had pitched a quality start but was behind 3-0 until Hunter launched a 3-Run bomb in the 6th.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia was tossed in the 2nd inning for arguing a called check swing strike on Hideki Matsui, perhaps the most ridiculous call of the young season. On the postgame radio show, Scioscia compared it to swinging while the catcher throws the ball back to the pitcher and was still insistent that there was no intent on the part of Matsui to swing at the pitch in question. Left to their own devices, the Angels hacked and hawed but Howie's mad scientist magic in the bottom of the 9th with a man on 3rd was the best call of 2010 so far.
Wow.

HK 47 wins
because Torii should have been out. (not that I mind that we won when he should have been out.) Game winning hit > 3rbi’s, HR, 3-4
angels all star 2010 - April 28, 2010
Torii wins because HK47 doesn't get a chance to be Panther without the Jimmy-Jack and the (questionable) double.
red floyd - April 28, 2010
Exactly, Torii wins!
Halo Hurricane - April 28, 2010
But Howie performed a miracle perfecto bunt that won the game.
Torii was really just doing his job as “power hitter in the meat of the order.” Good for Torii to start working his way back offensively.
44FAN - April 28, 2010
This final move of the game also rocked and horrified the fan members at Let's Go Tribe.
Torii’s homer only dismayed and disappointed Let’s Go Tribe.
44FAN - April 28, 2010
Wow, Indeed!
With 2 outs, that blew my mind!
Halo Hurricane - April 28, 2010
HK 47 FTW
Definitely the Panther! He made that decision to bunt all solo and surprised the hell outta the tribe.
Hey Rev, ^^^SEEMED and CLEVELAND need a fix. :o)
maze88 - April 28, 2010 via mobile
fixed. thanks!
Rev Halofan - April 28, 2010
Torii was out! Yeah Torii was out! No man Torii was safe!
Ah. The irony…

Bravo to the Bullpen Great Job Today.
Especially Fuentes, now it wasn’t pretty but he got the job done to keep the game 3-3 .

just got home from the game
holy crap, that was so much fun. HK47 was brilliant with that bunt, but Torii hit that homer at the most perfect time. love the walkoff win!
daze - April 28, 2010
Torii has been not hitting like he used t-
AND THERE IT GOES IT"S NOW TIED 3-3 my goodness.
I have never seen a walkoff bunt.
angels all star 2010 - April 28, 2010
Nevermind just being a walkoff bunt...
But the fact there were TWO outs is awesome and hilarious. I could see that easily happening with 0 or 1 out. But 2 outs… Kendrick is probably going to get yelled at then hugged by Scoscia
haloduck - April 29, 2010
Yeah, I've seen the Angels walk off on a suicide squeeze before... But this was unique!

Heck of a road trip upcomming;

Raaddad - April 28, 2010
One .500 team to 3 others.
Detroit started hot, but has cooled off a bit. Still, we split 4 games last week.
Seattle and Boston have both played much better this past week. It should be a challenging roads trip.

Chris Perez apparently wasn't as impressed by it as we were.
“It was a bad baseball play that happened to work out,” Perez said. “I don’t want to say it was bush league. But you never see that. Ninety-nine percent of hitters in that situation would rather win the game with a hit, not a bunt. It was a stupid play that just happened to work.”
~MMP~ - April 28, 2010
I'm pretty sure bunts count as "hits"...
…when the runner reaches.
Also pretty sure it “happened to work” because the Indians were completely unprepared for it. The same way Chris Perez would have been unprepared for it.
Robviously - April 28, 2010
Also pretty sure there is nothing preventing you from bunting at that time. No rule or unwritten one. Seems he is just upset it worked lol. IDK pretty stupid
TheAngelsColts - April 28, 2010
Chris Perez = Sour Grapes Bitch
Was bunting in that situation risky? Yes. Was it stupid? If it didn’t work, perhaps. But Howie saw an opportunity with the position of the defense, and he knew SGB was going to throw him a first-pitch strike.
That’s gamesmanship, SGB, and even if your claim is true — that 99% of hitters in that situation would rather hit than bunt — I would counter that 100% of hard-nosed ballplayers would find any way they could to get the run across — even by bunting.
You got outsmarted, SGB. Take your licks and go home.
yeswecan - April 28, 2010
Beautifully stated
Perez is obviously being an idiot here.. He’s one of those who don’t appreciate the beautiful nuances of “Soth Ball,” “little ball,” “smart ball,” or whatever you want to call it.
The bunt is a time-honored component of baseball play (at all levels) but always under-rated because it’s not as “sexy” as the home run, the power swing, the mega hit.
Raaddad - April 28, 2010
It's called Angels baseball.

If you click on an ongoing game score at the top of the game thread you will be taken to a SBN page for that game.
On this page is a summary of the game and also the game threads for both teams from their respecitive SBN blog pages. These game threads are shown in reverse order so last comment is on top and older comments are below.
I found it extreamly entertaining to watch both the Indian and the Angels game threads simultainously. When somthing happened in the game, like the Torii hunter home run the opposing reaction from the fans is hilarious.
