about 2 years ago: ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 25: Scott Kazmir #19 of the Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim pitches against the New York Yankees on April 25, 2010 in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Jacob de Golish/Getty Images)
Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Angels 8, Yankees 4...
On the 24th anniversary of Chernobyl, the Angels nuked the Yankees tender
Brandon Wood hit a 2 run double to take the lead the Angels would never surrender
Kendry Morales added a 3 run homer to celebrate a wild weekend bender
After Joe Buck spent Saturday as Joe Girardi's saliva lender
Scott Kazmir survived some bombs from the league's big spender
Kowbell smashed a 3-0 pitch in the 7th that really was the game ender.
Kaz only allowed 3 hits, but 4 runs dented his fender
Mike Napoli and Torii Hunter stole a base each like Rickey Hender-
son. Down Early, Bobby Abreu hit a solo shot as a scoring mender
Perhaps 7 Angels scoring a run and 3+ innings of scoreless, hitless relief pitching is a trender.

and its not even close. 3-3 1 HR. 2 Runs 3 RBI. PANTHER
princeton11loveshalos - April 25, 2010
Morales
Not sure how anyone could vote against the guy who was on base every time and crushed a 3-run homer that spared us Fuentes in a 1-run game. It was nice BWood got his first two RBIs, but if anyone else had done what he did today, they would get 0 votes against Kendry.
Brody - April 25, 2010
"but if anyone else had done what he did today..."
Of course not. That’s the point, the hit from Wood was clutch, gave us the lead, and gave us the win. Kendry absolutely outperformed Wood but I voted for Wood based on the situation. Not just because he got a hit, but it was the game winner and he really needed it. Based on performance, it’s Kendry hands-down; based on what meant more to me (and arguably the team), it’s Wood.
haloduck - April 25, 2010
This
Rec’d.
The idea of the Panther, I think, is who is the player who performed in a Panther-like fashion by coming through in the clutch and doing something momentous or thereabouts that won this game for us, whether that be Weaver pitching a complete game shutout or Torii Hunter going hitless but leaping to rob the opponent of a game-winning home run even though another Halo went 4-4. Wood’s double not only came at a crucial moment but put us ahead for good. Kendry’s HR was padding on top of it. Yes Kendry had the statistically better performance, but in terms of pure PANTHER, I give it to Wood—or, really, Wood AND Morales as Co-Panthers.
Clutch - April 25, 2010

RexTookMyStash - April 26, 2010
Yep
Also liked the fact that Wood’s starting to hit pretty well. Shields had the movement and command today. The offense with some good hits.
phoenix15 - April 25, 2010
I had to give this one to Wood.
angelsfan7 - April 25, 2010
I'd like to write in for our bullpen
they didn’t even give up a single hit today in 3.2IP. We need all the confidence we can get in this area.
Hopefully today jump starts Wood’s belief in himself as well.
Light it up!

DAD OF VLAD - April 25, 2010
As much as I'd like to vote for Wood...
K-Mo is the obvious choice. The man had an absolutely beastly afternoon, but Wood and the bullpen certainly played a huge part in earning the win. I’m really excited to see how much more Morales develops and if Wood really did have the coming-out party we’ve all been so eagerly anticipating. My outlook on the season certainly isn’t as bleak as it was in the first week or so.

Kendry for panther...
…he had himself a little personal party at the Yanks expense over the last few days
Very encouraging performances from Wood and most importantly Shields – if Scot is back as the pitcher we’ve known and loved most of this past decade, it’ll sew up an awful lot of holes.
The Limey - April 25, 2010
8 runs (2 HRs, 6 BBs)
Nice that the Angels put a bunch of runs on the board. This year’s team is definitely going to need (as Scioscia calls it) “batter’s box offense”.
Not including today’s results, here’s how the Angels rank in the AL:
Runs: 9th
BA: 6th
OBP: 7th
SLG: 8th
HR: 8th
BB: 12th
The offense has been sub-par so far but should improve as the year progresses.

It's nice to beat a team like the MFY with our bats.
It gives me great hope. Abreu said the bats are beginning to come around and when they do the Angels will be fine.
44FAN - April 25, 2010
was at the game
and when Scotty came in, you could feel the nervousness… I’m glad he did OK.
Also, lots of cheering for BWood when he came up.
And watching the Yankees “fans” leave early – priceless!
raskul - April 25, 2010
Hahahaha!
Yankee fans left early? Sweet!
NJinHB - April 25, 2010
Red Sox fan do too.
I was at Game 2 of the ALDS last year and the couple next to us left after the sixth inning. First the woman had to “use the bathroom”, then the guy “got an important phone call”.
I’m sure no Angel fans left early at game 3 in Fenway! :D
lightupthehalo29 - April 25, 2010
The obnoxious Sox fans behind us in the first game left during the 7th, nearly in tears.
The nice ones that were sitting in our row stayed for the whole game. We talked to them before the start of the game and they were intelligent and funny, and they told us in advance that they were NOT like the other Sox fans.
opiejeanne - April 25, 2010
Ran into one of those at Game 2 as well.
We were near a bunch of Sux fans, and I had made some comment about bandwagons… The girl behind me took offense, claimed she wasn’t and backed it up.
I gave her her props, and we all got along for the rest of the game (though I enjoyed it more than she did!)
red floyd - April 25, 2010
It was glorious seeing this Yankee couple leave in the 7th inning today...
They were talking all sorts of smack early in the ballgame when it was 3 nil… I took my knocks with honor. Their leaving early was PRICELESS.
Downing Rules - April 25, 2010
What was it like 2 minutes after Kowbell went deep?
I hope you guys got some smack in before they split
that is so lame
Raaddad - April 25, 2010
I'm not a smack talker...
I only talk smack to the opposing TEAM, as the real game occurs on the field. Not in the stands. When they were turning around and gloating when it was 3-0, I kept pointing to the field: “the game’s over there, let’s keep focused.”
Downing Rules - April 26, 2010

I usually gave a better performance musically if I avoided anyone trying to get me to accept praise before the show.
My kids seemed to know this instinctively when they started competing in sports and other areas.
opiejeanne - April 25, 2010
Oh yeah,
like rats off a sinking ship.
They were dancing and high-fiving when they went up 3-0, but filed out pretty quickly after KenMore’s HR.

But to be fair
they all had to catch flights back to New York, I’m sure!
raskul - April 26, 2010
Nice to see that 13 pitch AB from Maicer in the third inning.
Even if he had nothing but a strikeout to show for it, the boys got a nice long look at Vazquez, and the lineup had followed up with five runs by they looped back to Izturis in the fourth inning.
Sometimes small things lead to big results.

Rev Halofan - April 25, 2010
Don't forget, BWood had a 7 pitch K before that, so between them
they worked Vasquez for 20 pitches on 2 outs.
red floyd - April 25, 2010
Was strike three a called check swing?
I was looking for the highlights at MLB.com and they haven’t been posted yet at that site. I wonder why?
I only seen that at bat during the post game highlights that one time they showed it. I didn’t really start the game until the middle innings, and missed it live. The Skanks always get calls their way so I wouldn’t doubt that the ump might take a chance for the K since it was a pitch off the plate.
Best quote from the game by Rojas
eyespy - April 25, 2010
it was a high strike and he did go around
the home plate ump called it without any assistance from the yanksniffers down either baseline
Rev Halofan - April 25, 2010
It was clearly a swing from my vantage point about 10 paces behind the ump.

Kendry, with Wood a close 2nd.
~MMP~ - April 25, 2010
The only reasoning for Wood
would be because he gave us the lead we never lost.
For me though, I can’t figure out a way to vote against a 3-3 3 run blast day. Still proud of Wood though.
Teixeira Who? - April 25, 2010
Couldn't be here, was at my GF's house
watched the game there though [in the process getting no homework done], it was great to see the offense come back. Wood made some solid contact, I’m looking for him to break out soon.
And Kendry is just. . . Kendry.

Scottnak…I placed a bet on the game today, but didn’t see my name on results. I thought I packed 5 K’s…but not 100% sure. I placed my bet around 7:00 AM this morning. If it somehow got lost, no big deal.

But, I am riding high with a big fat zero points today. Yee haw!

I don’t take care of the bet-placement system anymore. You’re going to have to talk to foxpaw about that… but if it didn’t show up on the excel sheet, i’m afraid you’re out of luck… (at least from what i can do)
scottnak - April 25, 2010
nit listed
as a bet. we are working on making the system better so you can at least check that your bet has been logged but for now you just gotta follow thru and make sure you see that the bet has been placed after the whole process.

We were listening to the game on the truck radio and missed everything after Rodney got the first out in the 8th.
Who pitched the rest of the game? Someone up above mentioned Shields; when did he pitch?

Shields pitched the 9th
~MMP~ - April 25, 2010
Wow! Didn't know that either
Trying to catch some waves in Malibu on my birthday and missed the last two innings.
We heard Kowbell’s blast though just as we got to the beach—great birthday present! lol
Raaddad - April 25, 2010
Thanks. The score didn't change so that's a good thing, but was it a white-knuckle ride or did he have good command?
opiejeanne - April 25, 2010
He was pretty damn good, 1-2-3 inning with 1 SO. He seemed to have his command back
~MMP~ - April 25, 2010
That would be just super, if we have the Good Shields back.
opiejeanne - April 25, 2010
I listened to Bulger's inning and was pretty happy with the way he pitched.
Now maybe watching it was scarier than hearing it on the radio. Terry Smith IS doing a great job on the radio. I’d like him working with Gubi instead of Rojas, but I have to admit that Rojas is really good sometimes, especially with his snotty remarks.
It was really funny, at one point Terry seemed to uttering a prophecy. He said Bulger will strike him out after he threw strike two. Maybe he counted strikes wrong, but it was funny. I can’t remember who Bulger was pitching to at that point, and I can’t remember how he got him out.
opiejeanne - April 25, 2010

Kendry “you should’ve walked me” Morales.
If you missed it, they started to intentionally walk Morales on his HR ab (one pitch-out) then decided to pitch to him. Actually is was a communication error on New York and they corrected it. Or did they.

Went to the game yesterday,
As for POTG, who cares, we beat the skanks! Although it’s hard to argue against Kowbell or Kaz, I rolled with Wood. He needed that hit, in the worst way, and the RBI’s were nice.
