Pitchers don’t even care about pitch counts. The majority of pitches they throw come in off days. It’s all about the work out. Pitchers should be fine going 125 pitches a game.
That when MLB needs to make money, they make sure the Yankees and Red Sox win. Either that or umpires are too easily intimidated with those two teams. It just seems like every call goes their way.
After reading excerpts from Donaghy’s non-book, I wouldn’t be surprised at that assumption. I definitely think they give any borderline call to the Yankees/Sox favor.
They bring Shields in, I figure I don’t want to see it so I hop in the shower, and come back to what I expected. Thankfully I missed most of the blood pressure raising incidents….And of course the comical “If A-Rod doesn’t swing at it, it isn’t strike 3” calls I am sadly used to over these last two seasons.
That ump has been calling way outside strikes to Matsui the last 2 at-bats I’ve seen though (whereas the same placement for other batters hasn’t been called strike).
