Mrs. Manatee and I in.
Plus our newest Lil Halo Fan, Melody, will be in tow. Many of you had followed our trials with her birth, shared your concerns, and prayed for us. We’re excited for you to get to meet her, and for her to get to go to (and most likely sleep through) her first Angels game. Yeah!

I really wanted to go.
But unfortunately, it is tax season, and I got an obligation to Uncle Sam. I’ll be there in spirit if not in person. Any chance for future meet ups later in the season?

Can't wait to meet your daughters.
just kidding
angels4adam - April 14, 2010
the wife and daughter are far better looking than me
maybe next time at Rev’s “cheapseat special”
Raaddad - April 14, 2010
If I was Raaddad, I'd be cleanin' my shotgun right now.
Seriously, though, the very first thing I did when my first daughter was born was to apologize to my father-in-law.
If you’re the father of a girl, you know exactly what I mean.
red floyd - April 14, 2010
Not a part of my life's experience, so far...
But this one quote from tv came to mind – now before we all get defensive and make disclaimers let’s just agree that the West Wing was either politically naive or just way off most of the time – but it did have some spouts of excellent writing. Like this excerpt:
“…fifteen years ago we took a trip to Egypt. All five of us. Saw the Pyramids and Luxor and then headed up into the Sinai. We had a guide, a Bedouin man, who called me ‘Abu el Banat’. And whenever we’d meet another Bedouin, he’d introduce me as Abu el Banat. And the Bedouin would laugh and laugh and offer me a cup of tea. And I’d go to pay them for the tea and they wouldn’t let me. ‘Abu el Banat’ means ‘Father of daughters’ They thought the tea was the least they could do.”
Zoe Necrosis - April 14, 2010
Yeah, it's not easy.
A more “pedestrian” view was from Steve Martin from “Father of the Bride” when he reminisced about how his daughter looked so good on her first date and he knew EXACTLY what her partner was thinking because, well, he’d had the exact same thoughts when he was that age.
And the world turns and we get to see life from the other side. Again and again.
I’ll add this observation. I’d been a mostly laid-back guy through my mid-20’s. I got married at the age of 27…and my protective instincts got kick-started. Look at my wife in an odd way? You’re asking for it! When my son was born, those same instincts doubled at least. If I thought someone was messing with my son…oh bloody hell. It’s hard to describe. I’d just want to crush the offender (and almost succeeded on a couple of occasions).
That above paled in comparison to when my daughter was born, and when she was growing up. It was the above from my son and wife multiplied by 10? 100? Again it’s hard to quantify. I can tell you unequivocally that if there was an either/or choice of giving my life or hers, I’d be a dead man. She’ll be 23 this year, and as time has passed, those protective instincts have had to surrender to the reality of life in these times. Clothes, cars, boyfriends, finding her own way in life. It’s difficult to let go. On the other hand, I don’t want an emotionally stunted daughter (or son for that matter) that can’t find her own path in life. So…I have to stifle those protective instincts and just…adapt. Shut my mouth and let her figure things out for herself. It’s hard, but for the past 5-6 years, I’ve managed to offer advice only when asked (very rare).
And the world will turn again, and it will perhaps someday be her turn to deal with the same thoughts and feelings and thereby (unwittingly?) ask the same questions and wonder when and where to intervene and where to just watch and hope they exercise good judgment. And if that happens, then she have pondered the same questions of parents since…well I guess since we achieved self-consciousness.

You guys are getting rather profound on this topic
But going back to Red Floyd and “cleaninig shotguns”: I remember when I went back to upstate New York to meet my wife’s parents (we weren’t married then but living together). Her dad promptly took me up to the 3rd floor and opened up a locked back room in the attic. We went inside and he locked the door behind me. He turned on the light, and there I beheld the largest collection of weapons I had ever seen outside of the NY Museum of Natural History (great sword collection). The dude had racks of Japanese rifles, bayonets, swords, cases of hunting rifles and yes shotguns, mounted antique pistols, and even a small cannon (which he fired off at our wedding, btw, scaring the crap out of everyone). My first thought was: militia freak!!!! But no, simply a collector, seller, and user.
We stood there looking at all those guns and he said after awhile: “So when are you two gonna tie the knot, son…?”
He didn’t need to actually hold a shotgun to my head; there were plenty surrounding me at that moment, and I got the point!
We were marrried 3 hours later.
(Just kidding)
Raaddad - April 15, 2010
I can relate.
I collect knives. Currently, the pride of my collections is a handmade Finnish hunting knife.
I don’t own a shotgun, but I did actually have my Ka-bar out for sharpening the first time my older daughter brought her BF home.
red floyd - April 15, 2010
You remind me of Locke on Lost
That was quite a knife collection he had for awhile
Raaddad - April 15, 2010
As a 20-something daughter, thousands of miles from her father,
this got me a little choked up. Sounds like your daughter is lucky to have such a thoughtful dad!
cath619 - April 15, 2010
Thanks.
All I can add is try and bring some sense of honor to the values they attempted to instill (assuming of course they’re decent values worthy of honor). That is the greatest gift any child could possibly give their parent, far more treasured than any material reward.
Best of luck to you…and your father.

scottnak - April 14, 2010
SUGGESTION????
anyone want to meet up at Throwbacks prior to the game to take advantage of the free shuttle to the stadium??
ladybug - April 15, 2010
Sounds like a plan!
ATTENTION SFV-ites! Should we carpool down there?
red floyd - April 15, 2010
That's a possibility
Can kids get into Throwbacks?
Raaddad - April 15, 2010
Yes, but I don't think they can after 9pm
Quad Fin Rider - April 15, 2010 via mobile
I just called. She said if you are taking the bus over, they are pretty lenient on allowing kids before the games/during the day but not after the games (late at night)
Shuttle leaves 30 minutes before game starts, and will pick you up 20 minutes after game ends. So come in and have some dinner and drinks and let us take you to the game.
ladybug - April 15, 2010
Thanks--So maybe 4-4:30ish?
Btw, no “Stirrups” right?
Raaddad - April 15, 2010
I don't think he's brave enough......
the time sounds good. Grab some grub and a beer before hitting the stadium would be loads cheaper.
ladybug - April 15, 2010
I'll probably put up a fanshot a week before so us SFVers can make plans
red floyd - April 15, 2010
yeah, I figured details now are way too early
but that would be fun…and cheaper!
ladybug - April 15, 2010
okey doke
Raaddad - April 15, 2010
I'll be there.
b0rd3rline - April 15, 2010

rspencer - April 15, 2010
Voodoo will be on the mound (maybe)
(and HH hoodoo voodoo will be in the stands)
It’s the 28th game after this game today—that means Santana, unless there’s a rain out, injury, etc.
