In my mind the most over rated pitcher ever. The guys was shotty in A ball, should have never been promoted to AA, but was out of necessity, should have never been in AAA and him taking place in an actual major league start seems like more of a cruel joke. Look at the splits, stats don’t lie.
I will say this for him though, he did give us one good start last year and managed a no hitter in AAA, which no one could figure out exactly how that happened as he’d probably have an ERA over 6 in AA lol.
Who’s rating him so high? Yeah, our depleted depth has him getting starts that he probably shouldn’t, but I don’t see anyone arguing he should be in the rotation, this season or ever. Just filler till Reckling is ready to go.
Then why aren’t we seeing more of Trevor Bell? Or Reckling as of right now? Or Mendoza or Walden? All those guys are better options than SOS, not to mention Ortega and Palmer.
You do not start Reckling’s clock now when he is simply going to get shelled. He’s still a year or two away and rushing him is a bad idea. Palmer, Bell, and Ortega are as bad if not worse than SOS. When the time comes to call someone up for whatever reason, it will probably be between those three and SOS, depending on who’s pitching best at the moment. But so far this spring it looks like Mike is trusting SOS the most, and his minor league track record, while not too impressive, is still the strongest among that bunch.
SOS: 5.92 ERA in Anaheim, 5.48 in AAA, 5.30 in AA, 4.73 in A+
Bell: 9.74 ERA in Anaheim, 3.15 in AAA, 2.23 in AA, 4.22 in A+
Palmer: 3.93 ERA in Anaheim, 4.18 the year before, 4.32 the year before that.
The most recent stats suggest SOS is about the worst option we have.
and I forgot to look up Palmer. I still stand by my original point that they’re all close enough that SOS shouldn’t just get cast aside. Really, I hope all our starters stay reasonably healthy this year because that’s not a very attractive bunch of options.

The main controversy over them was that they were doing so while armed and a good portion of them tended to be a bit…extreme in their views. At least that’s what I remember.
Even I had to look up who started that. It’s been around for a while though, so it’s kind of just a community term at this point. Use it as you please. :-)

Sean O'Sullivan is.....
In my mind the most over rated pitcher ever. The guys was shotty in A ball, should have never been promoted to AA, but was out of necessity, should have never been in AAA and him taking place in an actual major league start seems like more of a cruel joke. Look at the splits, stats don’t lie.
I will say this for him though, he did give us one good start last year and managed a no hitter in AAA, which no one could figure out exactly how that happened as he’d probably have an ERA over 6 in AA lol.

Who’s rating him so high? Yeah, our depleted depth has him getting starts that he probably shouldn’t, but I don’t see anyone arguing he should be in the rotation, this season or ever. Just filler till Reckling is ready to go.

Then why aren’t we seeing more of Trevor Bell? Or Reckling as of right now? Or Mendoza or Walden? All those guys are better options than SOS, not to mention Ortega and Palmer.

You do not start Reckling’s clock now when he is simply going to get shelled. He’s still a year or two away and rushing him is a bad idea. Palmer, Bell, and Ortega are as bad if not worse than SOS. When the time comes to call someone up for whatever reason, it will probably be between those three and SOS, depending on who’s pitching best at the moment. But so far this spring it looks like Mike is trusting SOS the most, and his minor league track record, while not too impressive, is still the strongest among that bunch.

The most recent stats suggest SOS is about the worst option we have.

Good point on Bell
and I forgot to look up Palmer. I still stand by my original point that they’re all close enough that SOS shouldn’t just get cast aside. Really, I hope all our starters stay reasonably healthy this year because that’s not a very attractive bunch of options.
