Some links detailing the history of Irish-born players in baseball. Baseball was always a magnet for immigrants just like it is today. At one point, roughly 30% of the players in MLB claimed Irish ancestry, with such well known examples over the years as Sean Casey and Mark McGwire, among many others. The Irish are also the 2nd largest European diaspora group in the US after the Germans.
