TOPICS: The Angels and Baseball are the topics. Be cool and nobody gets hurt.
ATTITUDE: OPTIMISTIC? Don't bully others into cheering along. PESSIMISTIC? Bitch once, then offer a solution. Don’t bitch twice, it’s alright.
STATS: Assume we are skeptical. Extravagant claims require extra-precise proof. If you use the word "luck" it means you believe in magic and faeries, not that there is anything wrong with that. Please explain or link to a simple definition of any stat more complex than OPS.
COMMUNITY CONDUCT: Disagreement and intelligent critiques are welcome. Criticism is not censorship - your opinion is always allowed, but so is everyone's opinion of your opinion. There are ladies and children here on occasion, so keep it PG-13. You may use the F-word once a month maximum. No T&A pictures ever - No exceptions.
COMMERCE: No Ticket Sales.
GAME THREADS: No posting pictures, animated gifs, etcetera in game threads. No requesting new game threads. No links to pirate feeds.
FANPOST/FANSHOT: This blog draws heavy high-traffic, so you are obligated to use good grammar and write about interesting topics. Try to impress us. We offer sophisticated posting tools, so learn these tools. FanShots are for quick links and news with little commentary. FanPosts are deeper analysis, investigations and detailed, passionate commentary. Your FanPost/FanShot Headlines MUST convey the Subject. Redundant, ambiguous and amateurish FanPosts get erased without warning, or worse, mocked in the comments by the community.
HOW TO GET BANNED: Martyrs and Hostile posters get banned fastest. Halos Heaven is like Vegas and our goodwill is like your casino chips - if you gamble away your chips you don't get them back, they're gone from the table and you're gone from the casino.

So did anything change from the old ones?
Those of us wanting to roleplay an occassional pirate lost…
But otherwise, seems the same?
RedFog - March 16, 2010
Yea they seem to be the same but he expanded on them which in itself is good I think..
I don’t really see what could be banworthy about the following that should be in the guidlines
I mean maybe you wont make a new one and one is all there will be IDK. But sometimes they get slow and someone asks if we can get a new one. You could say no or ignore them I guess but is it ban worthy or warning worthy rev? just curious cause if not it probably doesn’t HAVE to be in there but thats just a thought.
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
It gets annoying.
Simple as that. Rev and the other moderators can tell when a new thread is needed, and don’t need to be reminded about it every time someone else thinks a new one is needed. Just be patient, if a new thread is needed, it will appear.
b0rd3rline - March 16, 2010
Well I just look at it this way and this is why I say it.
There are times when the mods are not paying attention and are intwined in a game and you are at like 800 comments. You do at that point probably need a new thread and I would think it would be ok to ask if you are going to make one or not. I just don’t see it as grounds for banning and think saying a person can or can not ask a question is a little overboard, or overkill if you ask me.
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
I just look at it this way
if you want to talk overkill it is the requests for a new thread that are frickin’ overkill
Rev Halofan - March 16, 2010
I admit to not knowing how bad it gets here.
I am relating it to what I know best as a person on football open threads. Usually we don’t get 20 people asking but only 1 and sometimes 2 or 3. (Rev I hope your realize I am asking an giving my opinion from outside this blog as I have never been part of a regular season open thread yet). Not trying to come across as anything more than help by giving it from the perspective of what I see, based on where I have been which may not always apply on this blogs open threads or other places.
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
The problem is that people make silly assed requests for new threads
for such reasons as wanting to force a change of fortune during a game.
For example, “Oh my god, Lackey, not another double?! Rev, this is getting to be a really bad run of bad luck. WE NEED A NEW GAME THREAD!”
Stirrups - March 16, 2010
Yea that is just posters being stupid. I have never seen that before on any other place.
I assumed if it was because of amount of comments it wasn’t a big deal but now I see here it has been much more than that.
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
OH MAN, is my female-never-forget-anything brain gonna remember this thread

Don't lookit me.
I am more infamous for refusing to leave the current game thread and follow the crowd to anything new. i will lurk and post in the old game thread for another inning or two, just to piss of the mods. Drives them nutz.

Rev Halofan - March 16, 2010
I rest my case.
Stirrups - March 16, 2010
yea we normally use the last thread of a game to just make our thread to discuss whatever.
not sure why it is annoying unless they only want it to be about the game or something but ill be around more this year
TheAngelsColts - March 16, 2010
Oops. No. A misunderstanding here.
What I meant is that in the middle of the game, when the mod creates a new thread and calls everyone to jump over, I stay behind. The game is still going, and everyone ALMOST else has moved over and is posting in the new thread. I once noticed that there will be a few people slow on the uptake. So every once in a while I stick around and egg them on.
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
Oh ok I understand.
yea we have people that are very slow in moving over and normally lose a few in the jump. still say Ill be around more hopefully this year :).

Too many rules are confusing. Too few and you get the cries of, ‘I didn’t know…"
And besides, you can’t write a specific rule for every possible outcome or you end up with the friggin’ Federal Register.

Maybe a suggestion for newbies: hang around and respond to posts for a while to get a feel for what stories NEED to be posted and which ones are just clutter.
ihearhowie2.0 - March 16, 2010
Excellent point!
gotta add that.
Rev Halofan - March 16, 2010
Yeah, have we discussed adding a mandatory waiting period recently?
Could cut down on the number of “OMGTHEOFFSEASONLULZ” and “GRANDERSON?” and “TIX HERE!” type posts (which we admittedly haven’t gotten in quite some time). Or at the very least something whereby the rules are definitely shown to the newbies as they sign up, kind of like a TOS (maybe it’s already like this and I didn’t notice that it changed sometime in the past 4 years).

I had a sighting
He actually posted again last night, but it was pulled. It was a typical Halowood effort. He was asking whether we thought that the Angels Farm system developed prospects according to quality or “bulk.” I am not even sure how you would develop prospects in bulk. Go to Costco and buy a 12 pack of power hitting left fielders? Come to think of it, maybe that’s why we have so many players in our system with similar skill-sets to Maicer Izturis and Erick Aybar. Eddie Bane went to Costco for a twelve pack of Maicer. Could Halowood have been close to breaking a story?
Long and short of it, Halowood’s post was pulled faster that you could say “, ambiguous and amateurish”

At least you’re talking about something though. I do wish that it would be more Angel-centric. But that’s the whole point of my posts.
And why would I have to read these before posting again? Did I break any of them? You’re entitled to your opinion and my opinion of your opinion is that was just stupid.
Halowood - March 17, 2010
You know you've made it when. . .
I’d urge you to take it in good natured fun.
You can also see this as something of a complement. You are earning a place in the lexicon of HH.
As in. . .“Boy, did you see that post! He pulled a Halowood”
or. . .“That was a Halowood if I ever saw one.”
or. . .“On a Halowood scale of 1-10. One being only mildly annoying and ten being absolutely useless and redundant, that post was a 7.5”

misterjonez - March 17, 2010
Probably not, if I am reading this thread correctly.
But that just makes it more funny. The original meme may have just mutated into a whole new double-entendre.
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
That's pretty funny.
There happens to be a pretty hilarious divide between the typical internet Halo fan and the typical internet Mariner fan. Halo fans tend to be happy to a hysterical extreme, and Mariner fans tend to be more like depressed teenager angst bottled up and given an internet connection. Maybe the weather is the cause?
In any case, that’s probably why we don’t get each other’s memes too often.
misterjonez - March 17, 2010
It's these sort of small details that define both groups
The Limey - March 17, 2010
To help you out...
the ORIGINAL Granderson meme is based on what happened here on HH the day that it become public knowledge that Detroit was putting Curtis Granderson up on the trade block. We had something like one fanshot and 4 fanposts all in the same 24 hour window, all talking about the exact same subject. So we started to mock the latter Granderson contribution by feigning surprise. It stuck, and took on a life of its own.
So the orginal Granderson meme here is feigned shock that he is available and that we might have a chance to get him.
Now, your mutation is adding to the lore. Congrats, and thanks!
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
This all reminds me of chaos theory
There is a unique sense of order in all this madness: the confluence of non-sequitur uniquely perculating throughout the system, making the most sense to the long term system integraters. Most of us have beconme inherently postmodern just in our struggle to understand our cultural milieu, of which this site is a microcosm, albeit a really freaking funny one.

One more rule should be:
Make sure you spell check and have an English professor proof read your post before you make it because if the rev doesn’t like what you are saying, rather than comment on the content of your post, he will mock your typos and spelling errors.
Halo84653 - March 17, 2010
“Proofread” is one word.
The “Rev” should be capitalized as it is a proper noun.
There should be a comma before “because.”
Also, the content of your post sucks with its unwarranted hyperbole and limp sarcasm.

ACTUALLY
I am going to ban REPLY FAIL too … think about it… you are an incompetent who cannot learn the most basic format of the conversation here and/or you have FRED FLINTSTONE computer and connection incompatible with our state of the art site here and when you fuck up miserably you make a whole “woe is me” post to pathetically announce in public that you have in fact shit your pants.
Rev Halofan - March 17, 2010
was this an ironical reply fail?
i am confused.

Seriously, I do apologize and vow to correct my incompetence in this area or I will stop posting.
Raaddad - March 17, 2010
You're close to veering into the Land of the Internet Martyrs (rule #8?).
Just quit making an issue of it every time. If you screw up, Higz (and others) will remind you.
And upgrade to a computer that was built this century. Then all will be groovy.
sothball - March 17, 2010
that is a good point
“reply fail” is the cousin of “oh woe is me poor suffering misunderstood fan with the true vision of what wins baseball games…”
Rev Halofan - March 17, 2010
I thought it was just a apology for an admitted mistake.
What’s the big deal?
Match Day 5 - March 17, 2010
the big deal is not fixing the problem
and then using “oh sorry” as an excuse for ineptitude. Everyone else on this blog makes the effort to help make it coherent and easy to follow, so there’s no excuse.
yeswecan - March 17, 2010
I didn't say it was an excuse. No one said it was an excuse.
I said it was an apology. Are those no longer accepted?
Match Day 5 - March 17, 2010
the just never seem that way
actually they are good in one sense – they make other readers feel like they are not so crazy.
Rev Halofan - March 17, 2010
It's actually easier to notice and skip over REPLY FAIL
rather than have to read something like, “Sorry, that’s post was meant to be a reply to blah, blah, blah…”
IMO
Match Day 5 - March 18, 2010
Are you serious
First off he isn’t the first and will be no where near the last to have a “reply fail” and it isn’t always a matter of not pressing it this blog and every other has issues at times and it happens. If you started to ban people or something for it you would have major issues especially if they can’t do anything about it. You wouldn’t have any fans here if you banned everyone with a “reply fail”.
TheAngelsColts - March 17, 2010
You missed the point.
We’re all human, we all make errors. By going on a damn apology tour with every screw up, you preempt our opportunity to mock your error and dish out some internet noogies. And that’s irritating!
sothball - March 17, 2010
I agree about you shouldn't apologize after each one.
I just thought you were saying ban them for doing it which I thought was just dumb.
TheAngelsColts - March 17, 2010
No he didn't miss the point, & "internet noogies" are one thing (and that's very funny, btw)
derogatory insulting demeaning and basically infantile language is another. I’m not sure what that is all about, but it’s not professional, helpful or funny. That’s what’s great about the study of drama and literature; you see how arrogant egotistic individuals who have no self-awareness of their human failings meet their demise through their folly, as if their kharma finally catches up with them. Sophocles and Shakespeare were particularly insightful on this issue.
Anyway, I will now go back to being a silent participant for awhile, do something about this computer and the reply problem, etc.,—unless I’m banned, in which case, it’s been fun mostly, and also a little weird. But such is life. Thanks for chatting and joking.
Raaddad - March 17, 2010
Was that meant for sothball?
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
no--definitely not you or he
I really dig reading both your comments and responding on occasion. It’s really just my fault obviously in terms of the reply deal, but I guess I don’t think i deserve what I’m hearing for a number of reasons: one being that I have posted some very popular posts since I started and I spent a lot of time on them and they were well received. I can understand where the reply problem outweighs that, but I still think we can be more respectful and considerate of each other. I certainly am with the hundreds of people i help in my job every year. But I suppose it’s ridiculous to expect that from everyone, I know. But there you go…
Raaddad - March 17, 2010
Sigh. Dude, you are too serious for the moment.
That was a reply joke.
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
Sorry
oops, there I go apologizing again…:)
later
Raaddad - March 17, 2010
However he is 100% correct
TheAngelsColts - March 17, 2010
YOU GUYS ALL CRACK ME UP
comedy gold!
Rev Halofan - March 18, 2010
Martyrdom.
Tailor-made-to-order example.
LAASurfin - March 18, 2010
Reply fail
It’s still OK to point and laugh at the person who shat his pants by posting REPLY FAIL, right?
Higz - March 17, 2010
Guilty as charged.
Match Day 5 - March 17, 2010
As the obvious target of this
I accept my responsibility, and won’t do it again — except to spc7 and MYSPACOBAR
red floyd - March 17, 2010
CLARIFICATION PLEASE: what is a 'martyr'?
Wally's World - March 17, 2010
public lamenting one's status as a misunderstood outcast
in order to maximize sympathy for one’s cause that has not drawn acclaim or support.
Rev Halofan - March 17, 2010
Search upwards for "Hostility Abounds!"
red floyd - March 17, 2010
You have to like my posting
because my parents bought me a Lexus instead of a BMW.
I just dont even know what to do in life anymore.
PhiSlamma - March 17, 2010
the rules work
Anyone who’s been here for a few seasons knows this. It’s a reliance upon personal responsibility that most of us uphold, and therefore we have, in my opinion, a good balance of thoughtful, mature discussion and reactionary, passionate outbursts. This is a FAN site, and as such I think we have plenty of room to express all the feelings and argue all the details within the context of these rules.
yeswecan - March 17, 2010
that's how we roll? :-)
ladybug - March 17, 2010
I am beginning to wonder...
Is it possible to create a single post that violates all of the rules at once? And, if so, could there be some artistic opportunities at play?
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
You'd have to blogwhore and reply fail at the same time.
red floyd - March 17, 2010
And everything else.
So, yeah, the bar is high. But is it unattainably high?
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
test it then I dare you lol
TheAngelsColts - March 17, 2010
Yeah, really.
The risk of attaining perfection is the perfect certainty of an eternal ban.
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
Yep, very much the case. Even failing but trying may earn that eternal ban.
TheAngelsColts - March 17, 2010
Ah yes, true danger.
One MUST assume that one WILL get banned. So one MUST hit a grand slam. The post MUST be perfectly vile across every violation. Anything less would be ban AND fail. And, once banned, there is no opportunity for redemption. One would forever be known for the failure.
Stirrups - March 17, 2010
But
You could also be known as the perfect YES PERFECT example of what true failure looks like so no one else will make the mistake.
TheAngelsColts - March 17, 2010
I don't think so
You couldn’t violate “No Pictures In A Game Thread” and “No Uninteresting Fanposts” simultaneously. They are mutually exclusive.
Match Day 5 - March 18, 2010
Not true.
Create your own game thread as a fanpost. There have actually been times in the past when there were no mods around at the start of a game and one of us regulars launched the initial game thread as a fanpost. You just gotta make sure that your initial posting includes a picture. A T&A animated gif, in fact.
Stirrups - March 18, 2010
So here it is
Make a decent comment in a game thread that 1 or 2 people reply to. Your reply to them is to start your own game thread in the Fanpost section. The content of your post would be a picture of a naked girl taking a poop and the comment that this is how we treat you. You would continue by whining that we didn’t Rec your original post a bunch of times and then link to your concert ticket swapping blog which you claim is 10 times better according to some obscure irrelevant demographic. Swear repeatedly.
I think this would violate all the categories in one way or another.
Match Day 5 - March 18, 2010
You probably have change from a concert ticket swapping blog
to copyright ingringing swapping blog, so that you violate the “no link to pirate sites” rule. And you probably have to repeat the contents of your post multiple times to catch the duplicate fanpost rule that red points out below.
Stirrups - March 18, 2010
Yeah
I said concert tickets specifically to avoid having anything to do with sports in general and baseball/Angels in particular. The duplicate thing is tricky because I think the spirit of this task is that it would be 1 posting that would violate all the rules. If duplication is to be considered a ban-able offense then the 1 posting constraint my not be possible.
Match Day 5 - March 18, 2010
Post a fanpost violating everything except the dupe rule
And then post an EXACT duplicate fanpost.
red floyd - March 18, 2010
What about duplicate fanposts?
red floyd - March 18, 2010
All bans are eternal
ask johnsamo
Rev Halofan - March 18, 2010
From what I saw (I joined as he left so I only looked back on a couple weeks of posts)
johnsamo had zero artistic values.
Stirrups - March 18, 2010
It was beautiful in a mushroom-cloud sort of way.
