I got this press release from the Angels. You cannot make this stuff up.
ANGELS TO ATTEMPT MATSUI GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
ANAHEIM, CA - On Tuesday April 6, 2010, the Angels will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets." All fans in attendance at the Angels vs. Minnesota Twins game (7:05PM) will receive a complimentary Hideki Matsui Blankie courtesy of Konica Minolta.
"We are very excited about this special opportunity," team spokesman Tim Mead said. "Setting this world record will be a unique and memorable experience for our fans, the first of many in 2010."
During the game, an anticipated sellout crowd of over 40,000 will be prompted to wear their red "blankies", featuring Matsui’s name and number, for five consecutive minutes. After completion of the five minutes, a Guinness World Records Adjudicator will officially certify the new record. Later in the game, Guinness World Records will hold a short ceremony to recognize the record breaking attempt.
This is the first Guinness World Record attempted by the Angels. The current record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets is 17,758 set by the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 5, 2010.
WELL... there you have it folks... the only thing to add here is that when I think of "blankies" being shot in Anaheim, my first thought is the Katella Vasectomy Clinic.

I bet Tim Mead says "excited" and "special opportunity" more than anyone else in the world.

What an event…imagine the respect we shall earn if news of this achievement is broadcast during the All-Star game. Makes me so proud…
Might as well throw in some hot dog eating contests.

Blankie Night sounds like something that even Bill Veeck would find to be below his dignity
Quad Fin Rider - March 16, 2010
But something Bill Macdonald is looking very forward to.

Lame.
I thought we were trying to remove the image of this franchise being a joke, hence no more wunderdog. Arte, go back to creating a team with the image of winning rather than goofy stunts.

I literally thought this was some joke post...
…and still somehow do. But it’s March 16th, not April 1st.
If this is indeed true, I don’t blame the Angels I guess. I blame Guinness for becoming a mockery of what was once an incredible collection of records.
Yeah, now with the ‘net, you can look up anything, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who had a copy of the Guiness Book of World Records when they were younger and read through just about every page with amazement.
If I were 12 now and opened it and saw things like “Most cars to be washed in an outdoor setting using only ShamWows and bubble bath”, I’d return it; if non-returnable, I’d steal two books to make up for it.

well since many in attendance will be Japanese to honor Pornzilla...
…you’re not far off.
my buddy who does promotions for the Angels said they are actually Snuggies. I’m assuming they can’t call them that due to naming rights. seems like a cool idea for a baseball game though. keeps you warm while your arms are able to grab your beer and eat peanuts.
